As part of its 30th Anniversary celebrations, the Fort Young Hotel will recognize thirty most important people who have contributed significantly to the company.
That’s according to Chairman of GEMS Gregor Nassief during a launching ceremony held at the Fort Young Hotel on Monday.
GEMS is an impact-driven Caribbean-based company dedicated to owning, managing and developing world class, sustainable luxury properties and businesses in the hospitality and tourism markets.
During the months of October and November 2019, the hotel will be giving back to the country’s tourism industry through a series of promotions and the launching of new products to both foreigners and locals alike.
From October 1st to November 30th the Fort Young Hotel rooms, all categories will be bookable at a 30 percent discounted rate which goes hand-in-hand with its 30th year.
“As part of the celebrations we have planned, we have a very special night, the 23rd of November where we are going to try our best to identify and select the 30 most important people in Fort Young’s 30 year history and the thank them and to recognize them and to celebrate,” he said.
Nassief continued, “These people will be staff, management, shareholders, partners, clients and persons who have really made the Fort Young what it is and so I am really excited about our plans and also very excited to reveal on that special night who the 30 persons and to celebrate with them and the rest of our team.”
Meantime, General Manager of the Fort Young Hotel, Jose Abreu said thirty years is a sign of quality and consistency meaning that, “we have been doing things consistently right.”

You might be around Fort Young for thirty years, nevertheless Fort Young surviving for thirty years has nothing to do with quality of service.
The reason Fort Young is still in existence, is because the owners for more than thirty years placed obstacles in the way of any foreign hotel chain which ever attempted to invest in hotels on the island.
Had it not been for such obstacles, Club Med that is in St. Lucia would also be in Dominica.
If there is one grocery shop on an island all the inhabitant of the island must shop in that hole in the wall, whether the patrons receive good service or not!
That Nassief had the monopoly for more than thirty years, so let’s see what happens in the future.

I think you should give the PM a plaque for the millions he gave you without owning part of the hotels.

Am I missing something? How is Fort Young Hotel is said to be celebrating 30 years when it was in existence in 1977 when I started high school and knew of it while in primary school (don’t know its first date of operations). If I just go back to 1977, that gives me 42 years. Please enlighten me.

The original FYH was built by Smith and Company in 1964 so the hotel is a lot older than 30 years. Mr Titre was the foreman of the construction. The original swimming pool was at the front entrance next to the bar when walking in to the left.

Then it was destroyed in 1979 by hurricane David, ten years later it was re opened so the 30 years is counted from that point.

I watched the Marpin video on this event and Mr. Nassief, I must say doesn’t look well. Please seek medical attention. After Mr Linton becomes PM, Dominica will need people like you in the opposition to maintain balance. Contrary to the current PM’s views, a successful democracy needs sagacious opposition.
