Curious onlookers on the scene
A bloodied Popone in police custody

An incident, which occurred earlier this afternoon, on the corner of Great Marlborough Street and Independence Street, has left a man, believed to be Donaldson Popone, in police custody.

Popene, according to eyewitnesses, was seen arguing with a sound-system operator, who would only refer to himself as ‘Hanif’, on the same corner moments before the two began fighting.

After initially hurling verbal insults at ‘Hanif’ over a song that was playing that he disliked, Popone proceeded to throw missiles in the direction and vicinity of the sound system.

According to ‘Hanif’, the resulting scuffle was broken up by police and perhaps due to Popone reluctance to adhere to the guidelines of the police, he was arrested and taken, bleeding, to the police lock-up

It is claimed that ‘Hanif’ walked down the street and warned a police officer of the man’s attitude and conduct. Realizing that Popone was about to pick up more bottles to throw at him, ‘Hanif’ acted quickly and hit him in the head with a stone.

Speak peace, peace my son. The Lord wants us to be at peace with our fellowmen and to pray for our nation so we ourselves will be at peace. Speak life with your tongue. The tongue can speak life or death. Choose this day whom you may follow the Prince of Peace or the Prince of Destruction. Let the Lord Judge. What you say the Lord has too much on his account – Well he never asked that we do anything for him and he is ausome. He s great and Mighty. Ezekiel 18 tell us about our personal responsibility for our sins and we should watch and pray. We are quick to judge but we seem to forget that we were all born in sin. He is patient with us and we need to be patient with others and bring the words to them and if they ignore then the Lord will what he has to do when he has to do it. We should reprimand but not judge – correct and give Godly advice.

Maybe they learning these behaviors from their leadership? Monkey see monkey do!

      • ?????????????
        July 16, 2011

Hope no one is learning from your behaviour of being disrespectful. I do hope you have no siblings, children or other neighbours who look up to you. Then use your mouth wisely so they will imitate the specch of wisdom from you. Take heed that out of the mouth comes life and death and we must be respectful to our fellowmen.

In this case perhaps it is a matter of style. But many persons are blasting un-editied songs all day and ppl and thier children have to pass that day in day out. I dont mind Dancehall, Reggae, Zouk< Hip-Hop whatever..but have some discretion…#thatisall

I quite agree. Having lived in JA for a number of years and that is where dancehall was born, their Broadcasting Commission clamped down on radio stations playing hardcore songs and even bleeping out was a no-no. Then the authorities turned to cleaning up the music in the minibuses. There is a time and place for everything – we have to be mindful of what is happening in public space as we are not alone
