AG ‘not excited’ about Panama Papers

panama papers

Attorney General, Levi Peter said he is “not excited” about the much talked about Panama Papers which is being widely discussed in the media around the world.

However, he said on state-owned DBS Radio’s ‘Talking Point’ on Monday morning that if requests are made to Dominica concerning the papers, they will be dealt with in a professional manner.

“I am not excited about the Panama Papers at all, but if I get a request because we may not know it, but if request has to come to Dominica for assistance it would come to the Attorney General,” he said. “So if I get a request for assistance, I will deal with the request in a professional manner but it’s not something I should get excited about, I don’t think.”

The Panama Papers is the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them. The 11-million documents were leaked from a Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca. They show how the company has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax and show the myriad ways in which the rich can exploit secretive offshore tax regimes. They have been connected to a staggering number of high-profile names from around the globe.

The full database will be published today, May 9, 2016.  It will include information about more than 200,000 companies, trusts, foundations and funds incorporated in 21 tax havens, from Hong Kong to Nevada in the United States.

It is reported that the database will include information on more than 68 companies showing owners from Dominica.

The database of information will be published at https://offshoreleaks.icij.org on May 9 at 2 pm EDT (1800 UTC).

There are crooks off every sort in the world. You must not only think, talk and write about this. We are consumers. Consider the prices of everything and how much they are inflated. Enterprises get rich on us.
Internet Providers also spy on their customers; they could place gadgets to do so. They also decrease the computer speed. There is a class action suit against my internet provider for decreasing the computer speed from 4:30 pm to 2:00 am. This occurred a few years ago. It might still be occurring. When our computers are slow this could be the problem.
I read of an enterprise (don’t know if you know) who built the computer memory. A few of them planned to give customers low memory. A class action suit was lodged. It was settled for millions. It was stated every Canadian could get $20.00. I did not apply for it.
There is so much more to state.
So when you lambaste the PM remember every enterprise you do business with.

If Levy is not excited or concerned with respect to the many names and in particular foreign names of persons residing or registered, using the name of the Island of Dominica to save their big cash in the country of Panama , he doesn’t deserve to be Attorney General. How will the Prime Minister explain to donor countries that Dominica has been going around the world with a begging bowl trying to get money post Erika when several people affiliated to Dominica are shown in the Panama Paper. While they are trying to assist Dominica with taxes collected from their people, millions of dollars coming from Dominica are saved in Panama. I hope the Prime Minister will address the nation, we want to know immediately what is going on, or resign like a few leaders have already done. This one, is like a bad scent, it isn’t going anywhere.

I heard through the Toronto Media, Canada Revenue wants to get hold of the assets of Royal Bank of Canada. If I recall the government already went to Court over it.
It appears this bank is involved. I meant to access this article on that Media Website but have not yet done so. It will also be published in the local newspapers.
As for me, I am only hearing and reading. I let the Canadian government handle it.
Governments around the world are broke. They spend too much and so they want money. The best they can do is to go after those who bank offshore. Some time ago I heard through the Media, a former Federal Canadian Prime Minister is among them.

How considerate of you to let the Canadian government handle it. I’m sure they are very grateful to you.

I am an advocate. There are times I speak up and by writing my MP and MPP. This is when I vent my feelings, respectfully as I know how.
There is a lot occurring that the government does not inform us of. When it occurs or is leaked we know about it through the Media, sometimes shockingly. .
Let me further inform you. These matters are kept private. Governments are no different. The public could talk and write all they want and rant and rave on certain matters, nothing will be achieved.
This off-shore banking has been going on for years; not only in Panama. In the past I heard of it.
The government also has its means, how to investigate those who bank off-shore. This is between the government and those business enterprises and the rich.
Just as the FBI, Interpol and such, it has CSIS and other agencies. As I write this, I would not be surprised if also others are spied on, even our telephones. There have been speculations about that.

There is one name I know for sure that will not appear on the Panama paper and that is the name of Hon. Lennox Linton. Their is no way you will hear his name in this or any scandal.

    • May 13, 2016

DLP and their supporter blames Lennox Linton and the UWP for the scandal, but when he was tying to give us a heads up we were condemning him we said oh just want to be PM and he jealous of the PM. I ask what type of roll model is the PM for any young person out there today, they are coming up with all sort of excuses and at what length Dominicans rise and hold on to your Island.

We need a new Attorney General. He likes to take it upon himself to speak for others based on his personal opinion. If he doesnt like something, he says he hasnt gotten much support, or the many/ a number of people’s support was against. and vice versa. no proof or facts of statistics. any yet we just swallow his reasoning n not stand up. more and more the people ask for weed to be decriminalized or legalized, he says not many people want it.

This is not about the Honourable Attorney General and his level of excitement. The Panama Papers allegedly show how people were able to launder money and avoid paying taxes among other things. The Papers are said to include the names of 140 politicians from some 50 countries. We already know we can vouch for the Dear Leader who has always been an upright citizen and whose ethical integrity has always been above reproach. His modest salary does not allow for those kinds of activities. But is anyone else in his administration or inner circle in Dominica “not excited?”

  21. FBI Agent
    May 9, 2016

“I am not excited about the Panama Papers at all, but if I get a request because we may not know it, but if request has to come to Dominica for assistance it would come to the Attorney General,” he said. “So if I get a request for assistance, I will deal with the request in a professional manner but it’s not something I should get excited about, I don’t think.”

Hmmm, no wonder he said he had a problem with callers…He taking in front before in front take him. Well tell him to get ready because he is going to have to get some calls and requests will be made. I hope he is ready for what lies ahead.

    May 9, 2016

Of course Levi Peter is not excited about that. He is a dry stick in the first place and secondly I do not believe he made enough money in his entire life to put into an off-shore account.
What questions will inernational investigators and journalists ask him anyway? Whether he has approval from mr. Skerrit to answer any questions.? The man is as exciting as watching paint go dry.

Oh Dominica! Typical of the schizophrenic mindset of too many of our fellow citizens. They castigate Skerrit and others for allegedly having made lots of money, on the basis that accumulating that wealth is a terrible thing, but at the same time castigate or, even worse, treat with disdain those who allegedly have made much money…Well, well, well
