Today, the Dominica Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank (DAIDB), in keeping with its corporate responsibility presented 186 Christmas gift baskets to all the beneficiaries of the “Yes We Care” Programme.
At a special presentation at the AID Bank this afternoon, the Honorable Minister for Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs, Gloria Shillingford, accepted the bank’s kind gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries of the programme.
The “Yes We Care” Programme was launched in June 2009 out of the need to care for the elderly, whose family members had either migrated or were unable to provide for them. The programme is being implemented through the Welfare Division of the Ministry of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs.
Currently, the programme serves people in the Carib Territory, as well as the Castle Bruce, Grand Bay, La Plaine, Marigot, Portsmouth, Roseau North, Roseau South, and St. Joseph health districts.
The AID Bank expressed delight for associating with this event and commended the Government of Dominica, the administrative staff, supervisors and care-givers involved with this programme.
This is not the first time that the AID Bank has demonstrated goodwill during the Christmas Season. In fact, a decision was taken to forego our Annual Christmas Dinner in order to make this significant contribution to the beneficiaries of the “Yes We Care” Programme.
The same was done in December 2009 when the bank collaborated with a number of village councils to host parties and distribute Christmas gifts for about 254 underpriviledged children – in the collective communities of Gallion, Giraudel/Eggleston, Trafalgar/Shawford/Fond Canie, Tarish Pit and Concord.
GOD MOVE AID BANK AND GOD BLESS HON. SKERRIT THE YES WE CARE PROGRAMME WILL SURELY GO PLACES
Well done.
OMG no comments yet, is it because this is not a political issue.
God bless you AID Bank. Now that is what I call a giving society. Dominicans care about each other. Let no one try to detract from our legacy by claiming that we have become a mendicant society. We like to blow things out of proportions in Dominica too much. It is the season of goodwill after all. Interestingly, last year the same people cried from the roof tops that the elections would be so divisive that it would take away from the spirit of Christmas. This year, complete silence about what has been bandied about in the press leading up to Christmas this year.
Nice to read some positive news. Not very often you get those kind of news items. Go AID Bank.
Let me hear all you say that the Yes We Care program for the Elderly is not a good program or let me hear anyone criticising and calling Ministers and PM names and then I will know that my country men are selfish and loveless people.
I want to hear you all now with your comments since everything done by the Government are criticised and verbal insults are sent at the Leaders.
We congratulate our government for taking this initiative. Other organisation should step up and contribute to this program. Our Elderly has done their fair share for our country under harsh conditions. Now we are better than they were back then. (Now all we have is plenty mouth to say inecessary things). Without them we would never have been where we are today. Hats off to the Government and also AID Bank.
