Anthony Commodore nominated to electoral commission

Attorney Anthony Commodore has been nominated to the electoral commission by leader of the parliamentary opposition, Hector John.

John has confirmed that former in-house counsel of the Aid Bank Commodore  is expected to replace deceased Don Christopher, who served from 2010- 2012.

“Mister Commodore is a very experienced gentleman who has served the country well and I believe he is a fitting replacement for Mister Christopher, who did an excellent job in the interest of Dominica to ensure that we have electoral reform and that democracy is alive in Dominica,” John said.

The opposition leader said he is awaiting approval of the nomination by President Nicholas Liverpool.

If the opposition’s nomination is approved, attorney Commodore will join former DBS General Manager Mariette Warrington as the two United Workers Party nominees on the electoral commission.

Warrington was sworn in earlier this year.

Mr. Commodore was led by the Spirit of God to accept the nomination. No human person should expect him to give support to any thing that is not on the Lord’s side. You will not find that and if I know the man as well as I think I do the warning is do not expect him to humour anybody. He will stand on the right side even if it is he alone on that side. I so wish that more of our ‘MEN’ in Dominica would stand on that side too. GOD BLESS.

A superb choice. Eminently qualified, Mr. Anthony Commodore is untouchable, unbribable and untainted, and he will remain that way. Holder of LLB and LLM degrees, the imposing Grand Barian brings a formidable array of credentials to the table after an impeccable career at Customs: Senior State Attorney; Permanent Secretary (Ag.)Solicitor General (Ag.)Chief Magistrate and in-house counsel who acted as General Manager at the AID Bank. He left the AID Bank to open his own ELIJAH LAW CHAMBERS on the top of Cork Street. His scholarship will ensure the Commission’s credibility, his non-partisanship will stabilize decisions taken and his obvious honesty will carry the day. Nominating him was a masterly stroke.

Mr Commodore is better known for his outstanding work as a State Attorney(Senior) and a Magistrate. It is better to give the whole truth and not try to hide some like the erasing of the May 29 Mural on the Treasury Building.
I have the greatest respect for Mr Commodore as a professional, but I will await the decision of His Excellency, The President.
By the way, should the nomination be made public before the President acts?

DNO, With Mr Commodore representing the official opposition on the Electoral commission the Dominican people would expect him to inform us as to what actions/proposals he will be taking to ensure the official opposition stance as to electoral reform. Dominicans will and must demand information from Mr Commordore in light of what is considered to be an important constitutional requirement and the way forward in order to achieve that requirement. NO ELECTORAL REFORM NO ELECTIONS

If Commodore does what you are demanding, it will not be because of your rantings. We who have worked with him at the Customs for decades can say with impunity and with no fear of truthful contradiction that Commodore has never been, is not, and will never be anybody’s nobody’s man. Ill used by the Labour Party when he was on the Bench, not a trace of rancour can be found in the man, neither has he been on the stump for UWP. A consummate professional.

Benchmark I agree with you one hundred time five percent, Mr Commodore definitely do have all the quality required for this task, I know for sure that he will not be push around and will do all he can to the best of his ability

If ever we were looking for a consummate professional person and a man of integrity to replace Don Christopher on the Electorial Commission- we have found him in Mr. Anthony Commodore. The former DBS General Manager Mariette Warrington is also a great choice. These are two excellent nominations and a good gesture in the memory of Don. If that is the calibre of persons that the UWP attacks when selecting members to serve on national boards and to contest general elections, this augurs well for the Party and the country in the future. I pray that the nominations of Mr. Commodore will be unchallenged and he can be sworn in a.s.a.p. There is a lot of work to be done. We in the Roseau Valley claim Mr. Commodore as our own.

Commodore should bring a serious evenhanded approach to the deliberations of this independent Commission. We expect that his interventions would be well thought out, supported by authority and not nakedly partisan. When the occasion warrants it we hope he’ll be able to move this lethargic Opposition to initiate debate in Parliament on the unlawful decisions or actions of the political executive and to review in the courts.

Dear Even-handed, if you know anything about Mr. Commodore you would not even bother suggest that he should be even handed. This is the gentleman. He is very professional and principled. He calls things as he sees it. He is not bias. He is not a politician. He is a hard working and serious person. He is well trained, experienced and skilled. Trust me, he will take an even handed approach to the deliberations of a Commission that is supposed to be independent but has not been. You can depend on Mr. Commodore to bring a sense of integrity, independence and honesty to this body. I can assure you that Mr. Commodore will not be a push over by those who would like to take over the Commission. Have no fear! Have no fear my child.
