Thanks to his consistency in playing the Big Four Game of the Dominica National Lottery (DNL), the retirement years of Archibald Samuel have gotten a considerable cash injection.
Samuel was handed his jackpot of $100,000 on Tuesday.
He played $20 worth of the same number, 2097, he has been using from the inception of the game in March this year.
“Well to be honest I don’t use the word excited because I’ve been trained to control my emotions, but I should say that I am happy that I won a hundred thousand dollars,” the obviously pleased Samuel said at a brief ceremony at DNL’s office.
He pointed out that the money will go towards future expenses since he is a retired man. “I am not working any more so it will come in handy for my retirement,” he said. “I will be travelling to go see my parents in the states and do some fishing.”
He said he always knew that he would win big.
“I’ve been playing Big Four from its inception… and I play almost every day and I always kept telling my friends every day that one day I am going to win some big money because I don’t play small,” he pointed out.
He also urged those interested in winning to spend some money on the game since luck will eventually come their way. “If you are going to win, you’re going to win …it’s a game of luck and chance and your luck will come someday,” he stated.
Andrelina Fontaine of Grand Fond, played $4 worth of the same number and bagged $10,400.
She said she too has been playing from since the inception.
“I too am very happy of having won this $10,400,” she stated. “I started playing the Big Four from till it started, but not as big as my friend over here … I’ve been playing $5, $1, $2.”
She said she met Samuel on Saturday at Caripot Trading in Roseau and he urged her to play the lucky number.
Although she had already bought tickets, she went ahead and bought the number as instructed.
“I am very happy that I have won,” she gushed.
This is the first time since its inception that Big Four has had winners of this magnitude.
