Assistance for victims of abuse

sex abuseLifeline Ministries has secured a grant from the British High Commission to train individuals to support victims of sexual abuse and assault.

The course which is expected to begin on January 9, 2014, will continue for 6 weeks on Thursdays from 5-7.00 pm at Police Headquarters. It is hoped that this training will lead to the formation of a Victim Support Team and a Support Group for those in recovery.

According to a release from Lifeline Ministries, this training is necessary since many victims of abuse never overcome their experiences as they lack the necessary support.

“With support, those who have experienced the horror of being violated can even become effective advocates and peer counselors themselves. With support, witnesses can give coherent and consistent statements and criminals can be brought to justice and society can be protected. Supporting a victim can mean being available outside working hours, accompanying to hospital, police station or court and long hours of sympathetic listening. It can also mean supporting other family members as they struggle to come to terms with what has happened to their loved one,” the release stated.

The Ministry is making a call to anyone who is interested in being a more effective supporter. Individuals can apply to participate in the training by filling out an application form. Forms are available at police stations and from [email protected].

The closing date for applications is Friday 13th December 2013.

A special call is being made to individuals who are already engaged in supportive activities and possess skills such as sign language or communicating with those with learning difficulties.

Wow, l wonder if anyone got the point of how serious this is. We so much about taking care of victims when the fact is, this abuse thing is big in D/can society at both the physical and psychological level. Not only women are victim here but men and boys as well. This type of abuse is still hidden, and our men in blue are still dumb as to when to intervene. Such a male thing that some of them are guilty of abusing their loved ones. Lets be honest here. But, all is not lost yet. How do we get involve when we have patients, victims of these types of abuses. What we must have here is a police department that is not afraid to intervene when reports come in. Perhaps some form of treated confidentially if necessary, but involve government intervention that includes a data base of violent husbands or partners. Continued reporting of this form of violence, must be published as frequent as possible, and severe punishments for those breaking this law are necessary. Lets be tough on this for we don’t know who will be next.

Please clarify. Thanks. I did do a small research however, and it seems that this may be a separate entity linked to Lifeline Ministries in the UK, which is a sort of a social welfare group.

Praise the Lord!! Someone is taking a step to help victims of abuse. I suffered years of low self esteem, i felt like I was a nobody. It hurts emotionally when the men finish doing what they want with you. If only they know what goes on in a child’s life after the act.

If I was in DA I would surely play my part in reaching out to others. That is why I am pursuing a degree in social work and Christian counseling to be able to give back to my community when I go back home.

Good luck Ps Joseph and your team. May God continue to bless your ministry as you work to make others ready for His kingdom.

Actually Lifeline Ministries in Goodwill is nothing to do with Pastor Bernard Joseph. We were registered before he chose the name. We are associated with lifelinenetwork.org as is New Day Fellowship in Pottersville. We are faith based but not a church. We offer a lifeline to people in trouble………. and work with many others who also put words into action.
