Acting Prime Minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, has expressed Dominica’s solidarity with the government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines following widespread damages caused by adverse weather conditions on Tuesday.

He said Dominica will support St. Vincent in its time of need.

“I am advised that the downpour in St. Vincent began before dawn resulting in significant damage in infrastructure and housing,” he said.

He noted that information received reveals that 15 houses were destroyed in the Sandy Bay area and damages to houses in other areas; several bridges have been comprised and one may have been washed away, making access to affected areas impossible; roads to Windward and Leeward communities have been cut; water systems damaged; there have been power outages in some communities and a cemetery partially washed away.

“Access to some areas may have to be by sea,” Blackmoore stated. “We are thankful that there are no reported loss of life or injuries.”

He said Dominica stands in solidarity with St. Vincent and will give support at this time of need.

“The government and people of Dominica stand in solidarity with the government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and will support them in this time of need,” Blackmoore noted. “We await a formal situation report and damage assessment to determine how we can assist. Again we sympathize with the government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines during this time of great material loss.”

He also said that Dominica experienced some heavy downpours from the same system that affected St. Vincent but the island fared better.

Thank you MP Blackmoore. SVG came to our rescue after TS Erika, and it is the right thing to now render assistance in return.

I agree! We must help those in need. Rest assured that when this is over we must also practice helping those whom we see every day no matter their differences for we are the government of the people, by the people and for the people. Well done Mr. Blackmoore.

How sad. Strength and prayers for the sister island on STV and all those who suffered loss during that system. I hope they don’t take their three bridges back because I saw some of their bridges were also destroyed while Skerrit has done nothing to repair ours after almost two years now. In fact he has not even attempted to pull the damaged ones out of the river. I really sympathize with the people of STV because their PM was there for us when it was our turn, though it reminds me of an evil king in the bible that was judged and when he was in trouble another king came to assistance, and as a result he to and his innocent people were judged. Hope that’s not the case here

St. Vincent -Our sister Isle- Please stand strong in the Name of the Lord Jesus in this moment of trial. We stand 100% behind You as as our fellow Caribbean, and OECS sister island & we’ll certainly do All we can to assist. Who can forget St. Vincent’s generous assistance to us just after Tropical storm Erika just over a year ago- especially for those Bailey Bridges etc…
This TOO shall pass in Jesus’ Name! May All the Angels and Saints grant powerful intercession before the throne of the Lamb for all of the affected islands which are truly so vulnerable!

Heartfelt thoughts and Prayers From the Nature Island Dominica- WE LOVE YOU ST. VINCENT! SVG!
