Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd Knights has described the passing of former President Crispin Sorhaindo as a great loss for the country.
Sorhaindo, a former Speaker of the Dominica House of Assembly, died at his family home on Sunday after a long battle with cancer.
“I had the honor of knowing him and on occasion also had the honor of consulting him with my various concerns as speaker and he was always very forthcoming with advice. I have always known him to be a very helpful and knowledgeable person and I think his passing is a great loss for Dominica,” she said.
According to Knights, she knew that Sorhaindo was ailing for some time and “his wife wasn’t keeping too well”.
She said “I want to offer my condolences to his family and say to them that our loss here is heaven’s gain. He was a good person. I have had occasions to consult with him when he did the marriage encounter programme.”
The Speaker of the House of Assembly said Sorhaindo served well and should be remembered for everything he did.
My deepest sympathy to the Sorhaindo family.
Mr. Sorhaindo was truly a humble man.
Thank you Mrs Knight!
Indeed, I hope this is a moment of soul-searching and reflection for Mrs Alix Boyd-Knight that will help her to emulate Mr Sorhaindo’s exemplary statesmanship (dignified and impartial).
Mr Sorhaindo portrayed a most dignified demeanour in difficult and turbulant circumstances/situations.
Mr Sorhaindo was extremely respectful, even towards his proponents and opponents.
Mr Sorhaindo listened attentively to all individuals (irrespective of who they are), and gave them an opportunity to express their views, even when he does not share their sentiments.
Mr Sorhaindo served and represented the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica with integrity.
May his Soul Rest In Peace and may his family find solace knowing that he was a great Statesman and an Honourable man of the Commonwealth of Dominica!
May God bless the Sorhaindo Family! Peace be with you!
Mr. Sorhaindo served Dominica well, with dignity and statesmanship. Sympathy to his family.
Ms. Knights is right in saying that Mr. Sorhaindo was a good person. It is in that vein, that I urge her to draw on Mr. Sorhaindo’s example, especially when she is faced which situations where she feels the urge to make comments of poor taste – comments not in keeping with the behavior expected from the Speaker of our esteemed House.
Thanks DNO for allowing me to comment on your story.
Sincerely,
Mina
