Popular calypsonian Michael ‘Boople’ LaFleur has died.
Reports are that he died on Thursday morning at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
He has been sick for some time now, however, he competed in the Calypso competition during the Carnival season earlier this year.
While in the hospital recently, rumors were rife that he had died but in an exclusive interview with DNO, he shot down those rumors.
Boople is well known on the calypso scene.
Recent songs include “Air Dominica,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Kranana,” “Three Witches in London” and ‘Cheap Cars.”
DNO will continue to follow this development and provide information as it comes available.

The death of Boople is indeed a sad day for calypso. Calypso in Dominica is poorer as a result of his passing. He had so much more to offer the art form. He has been cruelly snatched away in his prime. He had a great voice with amazing clarity. He never won the crown but the songs he sang are now part of calypso folklore. Tracks like Jam dem, some of us have to stay at home, the monster hit, ‘pirates of the Caribbean’, aha, and Air Dominica will linger in my memory forever. His many fans will never forget his swansong- his performance at the 2016 calypso finals. My sincere condolences to his girlfriend and his family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
