Kurt De Freitas will no longer be Dominica’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Attorney General, Levi Peter, announced moments ago that De Freitas, a Guyanese national, was withdrawn from the job.
He was expected to take up duties in late October or early November.
Peter said the reason for the withdrawal was because of mischievous statements by bloggers and others who know nothing about De Freitas.
Concerns were raised that De Freitas was over 65, the maximum age for the position of DPP as required by the Constitution.
More on this story later.
this is sad, age is a number, if his experience and knowledge qualified him he should have gotten the position. sad that he was such a wimp to withdraw.
Kurt has done the right and proper thing, he knows if he accepted the position he would be shrouded in controversy, considering he knows that he has past the age to hold the position. I mean if judge Cenac, stood down when the time came because of his age, why should Kurt be employed in our civil service, by contract, or be he a established civil cervant.
Kurt is a much older man than Cenac, I know Cenac, very well, our friendship dates back to the 1970’s when he was a member of the judiciary of Antigua. I also had the privilege of meeting Denis Roberts, also a Guyanes, he was Clerk of the High Court, while our Dr. Joseph Liverpool was judge of the high court in Antigua.
Roberts, Cenac, the late James Harris, and two other Cenac’s we associated in a circle, so I do have an Idea how old this man Kurt is, and if certain age is the criteria to fill the position, his age has disqualify him.
Believe you me, both Denis, and Cenac, are much younger men than Kurt!
Kurt should be retired a very long time ago, if Cenac can be in retirement, Kurt should not even be thinking of working right now!

tHEY asked miss Evalina Baptiste’ the highly qualified , fully experienced and multi-degreed Chief magistrate to take up the job. Then suddenly in a major turn around they asked of her to apply for the job and she did. She was subsequently interviewed but alas they could not get their way. She lectured those ” manipulators” that such a Position of the DPP is a creature of the Constitution and must remain to be independent from the influence of the cabinet/legislature. OUUUUUUCH they could not stand that truth and seek for an over-aged Non National and look at whaaaaaaaaat we have. Miss Baptiste acted in that position with distinction. Her knowledge of the law is unparalleled. When are we going to learn. THis is not politics. The region is laughing at us. shame! shame ! shame!
HMMMMMMMM. Nice Nice Nice.
I challenge Levi Peter to make this letter from Mr. de Freitus public in hard copy. It may have come from him and it may not. I am saying this because it does not sound like the style and tone of communication from Kurt de Freitas OBE, QC for those who are familiar with his work.
I could care less about the age; why would Dominica want this man at all, based on his reputation?
Duke for DPP.
As someone who lives oversea I use to look forward to read Dominica news on line but the more I read their is nothing to up lift me or nothing to make me or any one who have the intention to come home to do so isn’t there any thing good that is happening in Dominica beside politic and are one sided, somtimes we need to here something good let our children read something positive you call your self Dominica news on line where is the news besides politic we are beautiful island don’t let what you a writing prevent people from coming home you make us look like war mongers, like Dominice is the worst please to be and that is not true we are not war mongers there are a lot of good things happening, no gov’t is perfect give the good and the bad it is sad that the only thing you read is things to discorage you from coming back home.
DNO di you post any blog that sort to assassinate the man’s character? I people say that I am older too old for the job of DPP I would not take that as an assassination of character.
What is interesting is that in all the rambling about character assassination neither Levi nor Defrietas in what is suppose to be his letter have dealt with the age issue. Very curious.
Does that letter from Defrietas citing his reason as negative comments from bloggers really exist? or is Levi and the government under Skerritt trying to cover their mistakes and hide behind the curtain of irresponsible preparation and lack of following procedure.
Read the comments and you will find out one way or the other.
Good breaking news. We all want a better Dominica and a better tomorow. Me now looking forward to the Londondary convention on Sunday 29th. Me ah wake up at 4 a.m to prepare me one pot. Breadfruit, dasheen, ladies yam, yania and goat. No banana, no coconut- dat is for petro caribe.
Dominica has never seen such foolishness in government not even in the days when those in authority had no degrees.
As far as I know the bloggers commented on Defrietas’ age and people spoke about the information that was reported about past stints. the report about his legal battles is also reported on line. Anybody who aspire to the post of DPP got to have mental fortitudee and Defrietas had been a DPP for many years.
Levi do you realize that Defrieatas was AG with a regime that was loaded with scandal from public theft, rape , money laundering and much more and would you know that Mr Defrietas sat in his chair during the tumultous times in the Cayman Islands. Theman is not a softy as you profess Mr levi Peter.
But it is funnt though that Levi seem to be suggesting that he and his administration are listening to the people’s complain; Well sir in the midst of the people’s complain the people cried foul when for some reason or another Miss Baptist was by passed. The people also cried foul because of the treatment given to Clement Joseph – Did you Mr Levi and your cabinet collegues listen?
This questions the competence of the A.G. and acting DPP, Levi Peter himself! Is he able to continue holding these postitions with any level of credibility or authority?
dam right
This begs the question…. “What kind of Due Diligence is being done on behalf of the Dominican people”? This is our countrys business. We deserve better stewardship of our affairs AND BY THE WAY SKERRIT, WE DEMAND IT!
well well well look at what dominica is coming to I cannot believe this we we we
I just spoke to a colleague of mine from the TCI, he smiled when I told him whether he knows Kurt. He told me that folks in the TCI was wondering whether Dominicans knew what they were getting into when they heard about his appointment. He reach as far as telling this man is not worthy of working no where in the Caribbean where an honest and trust worthy government exist.
That comment is quite unfair. I have known Mr. DeFreitas for the past 30 years. He is an honest, decent and very fair individual. Nobody can honestly say otherwise. Dominica has lost the opportunity to have an excellent, experienced D.P.P. who would have ensured fairness for all Dominicans.
Hot livi pepper stop beating around the bush, it’s time you people realize this is not 1950, ok. We are wise, and though some of us have low class or low paying job, we have an education. If you all continuing hiding the whole truth, the votes will speak.
Mischievous statements by bloggers and others who know nothing about De Freitas? Papa?? Put a new born baby up for the position and it will be 100 years old instantly..He has a birth certificate to prove his age ..don’t he? Tell the bloggers and others to apply for the position ner? WASTE OF TIME!!
Well, the constitution states that the DPP has to be 65 years or younger. The opposing voices had nothing to do with his alleged ‘withdrawal’. He, and the rest of the cabal thought that he could sneak in and undermine the constitution. No more. We need to continue to rise up Dominica and keep on calling out the mischievous deeds of this terrible government

There seems to be no vetting process by this administration, when it comes to the nomination of an individual to a position supported by the supreme law of the land.
No wonder “NO law no constitution can stop them from doing what they want.” Question, Is this what the law abiding Dominicans really voted for? My God! Where are the Christians, the educated people who are part and parcel of this land? Why are they silent about this atrocious disregard to our constitution?
With all the lies, contradictions and propaganda that are disseminated on the radio by the administration’s operatives, don’t they know by now that the truths will always trump the lies?
Only in our beloved Dominica this can happen. It is high time to vote these people out of office, and get them packing. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The POWER IN PEOPLE is beginning to rise
Since when wha tthe People say is being listened to?
The Answer is :Their voices are getting louder and there are many more voices!
Come clean with the people of Dominica. Please let us have your age in order to put a stop to all our doubts
Why is you people are just based on the man’s age. It’s just like what you all did to Ms. Knight. But time will tell for all of you who thinks that Dominica should never get anything of “Quality” Standard. Ms. Knight was a very good person for the Presidential position. But know, you all had to put the lady’s life and that of her family “In Fair Of Danger”, and for what, because you all won’t be able to have it your way; POLITICALLY especially? Dominicans, wake up and see what the Opposition is doing to our beloved Dominica, just because they WANT POWER. Remember Edison’s statement; “I’M INCHARGE”?
a Real Dominican? awah you can’t be. Real Dominicans inform themselves on the rule of law and don’t blog on issues that surpass their level of understanding. If Pestina who was willing to serve and a natural born Dominican followed the Constitutional requirements and resigned because he had reached the age of service, how then can this man be allowed to serve? Politics have some of you dizzy and desperate. By the way like so many others have said, ignore DNO and just google him: in the search box type in his name and see what comes up, then tell me if it’s Dominicans that have done anything to him. It’s very telling on the character of some of you, who will do anything to get a leg up in life. Carry on
@real Dominican why you blaming the people of Dominica for demanding good representation, you have a right to your opinion, majority of Dominican did not see mrs knight as a suitable candidate nothing personal we just demand better that’s all.stop blaming the opposition blue didnt want her red didn’t want her, get it straight. Take your head out of the sand, last I check this is called democracy.
Did you and the PM go to the same University to get your English Degree? Go learn to write.
Salpet, wat la dire on lot.. Mr AG you are supposed to be on the side of the Dominican People! bloggers? really? man a simple google search and the man history is blasted all over the place. please
wow! the bloggers are very powerful.
Well yes Dominicans are growing big back bones, keep fighting my people BETTER MUST COME.
my senile grandmother knows to ask whos there before she opens the door but this goverment just says, come na,
I believe Dominica has enough qualified and competent attorneys to fill in the position of DPP… I wonder why there is or was a need to go outside to find one, and why the utter disregard of the Protocol in which a Director of Public Prosecution is hired?!
But I have to agree with the man. How will his decisions ever be seen as ‘good’ or ‘fair’ when there is already a scandal attached to his name.
When Dominicans learn that the negative we spew will hurt us, it will be too late. Not everybody takes kindly to having their names scandalized, something which we in DOminica seem to enjoy. We like the ‘beff’ ‘ scandal’ ‘ bobol’ and we like to point fingers, BUT not everyone will take kindly to these things. It seems everything that has to be done in Dominica must result in a scandal. Well i agree with you Sir. Just my two cents
Listen to yourself idiot, jumping blaming Dominicans. Politicians using you all as foot stools. Get a copy of the Constitution, then do a google search of the man when you are through come back to the discussion. Some yapping after people, it exposes your inablity to reason, and understand global issues on the world wide web. A new born baby would do that before talking.
Why didn’t the AG simply state the man’s age? Well if blogging caused him to withdraw, the whole bunch should resign because it is now blogging start.
Hip hip hip! Hurrah!
A government with a majority of 18 to 3 on the run, afraid of a high school drop-out.
what is your age did you read the constitution of Dominica that’s all I want to know
No respect for the constituition its all about what skerro wants
From the above, it appears that bloggers are of the opinion that the DPP was removed due to ineligibility. From what I have read and heard on the news, it is far from the truth.
De Freitas withdrew from the post due to the adverse statements made by bloggers on various websites on Dominica.
First Alex Boyd knight now Kurt De Freitas, the high school drop out causing havoc.
Sorry you are so mislead! he is not causing havoc nor is becoming a concerning factor. He is by all proper analysis a nuisance, a troublemaker and a rogue. His acts of castigating, xenophobia and character assignation is meant to appeal to a few weak minded and selfish individuals who would rather see Dominica collapse like ancient Rome rather than support progressive development. People of high acclaim must find extreme difficulty in coming to this beautiful island and make a meaningful contribution to its development. The irony of all these events is that these obtuse minded people who blindly support the workers party like blessings and company lack the integrity, intelligence, wisdom, education and foresight to realise that lennox can only sink Dominica further and will not in anyway cause its improvement because he lacks not only the capacity but most importantly the humility to be fair leader for all of his people.
hsahahahaha—pointing at you…
Hmmmmmmmmm!! When I see this repeated disregard for the constitution I ask myself ‘Are these guys really that incompetent or is this a deliberate and calculated policy on the part of this government to continually show absolute disregard for the constitution?’ The latter would indicate that there must be an ulterior motive and if so, I ask of my people ‘WHAT IS IT?’ Why is this being done over and over again?? There is NO justification for this sort of behaviour on the part of our leaders and this is nothing short of absolute corruption in high office!! Ask yourselves WHY??????? WHERE…….YES WHERE will this end???? When is less important a question!! The question is WHERE WILL IT ALL END IF WE ALLOW IT TO CONTINUE HAPPENING!!!!! Wake up my people………Hmmmmmmmm
Skerrit once called the UWP a mickey mouse political party. I am now wandering whether he was referring to himself and his Government. Maybe to be referred to as mickey mouse is not bad after all, however, for a Minister of Government to refer to himself as a Rottweiler in the jungles of Guyana must be scarry. Talking about being scarry, those of us who heard a Minister on the Matt hot seat this morning, must agree with the Minister who calls himself a Rottweiler.
Really! What next? If this man is really older than 65 years then i give up. I just hope not. Don’t tell me that once again this government have failed to follow due process.
Please lord don’t let it be another disregard for the constitution. I pray its something else. Time is money and in this hard time all dollar should be accounted for. Now we have to go all over the interviewing process again only at the cost of we the tax payers.
My question to you Ted Lewis, to my fellow Dominicans and to the government of Dominica is WHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! What is the explanation for these constant and continued attacks on our constitution by persons who are supposedly competent, ‘EDUCATED’ and charged with the responsibility of defending that very constitution!!!!!! We need to ask of them the question……WHY!!!!!!!!??????? AND WE NEED TO DEMAND ANSWERS AND HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!!!!!!!!!!! There are too many excuses being accepted people!!!!!!!!!! Too many!!!!!!!!
Skeritt want to walk on the Constitution till He wear it down .We the People will not allow it !We will resist this attempt and the Resistance is growing People are getting sick of this Trampler!
What you have to tell yourself if their wasnt something to it all he had to do is disclosed his date of birth and everything would go away instead he kept silent knowing fully well what our Constitution outline and the AG Levi Peters did nothing to assure the D’icans people instead he said to us if we the people have any information we should bring it to him , what type of business is that ?
It should never get to that in the first place. all should be cleared with him before brining it out to the public air.
Chebay chucky!!!
All Peter has to say is that the man was too old and therefore he was disqualified to hold the post, NOT that he withdrew because it make it sound like this was voluntary. THANK GOD FOR Tiyani because our beloved constitution was about to be disrespected once again. Leave one to wonder WHY were they determined to bring him here….but god is NOT a bajan policeman. The LIES and DECIET are catching up to the DLP Protectionist mechanism, but “Change Must Come” and that will be soon.
They should have done their homework before embrassing them selves. It shouldn’t take a man with a degree to know that De freitas wasn’t illgible.
That’s wonderful news.
Great news indeed.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Yet another case of the government’s representatives showing either total incompetence or absolute disregard for the constitution and its requirements!!!!! We must ask why is it that this is happening so often. Is it that these guys do not bother to read up the constitution before making these appointments (extremely unlikely) or is it that there is some ulterior motive behind these particular persons being appointed despite the appointments being contrary to that required under the constitution? They seem totally relaxed about appearing to be incompetent over and over again and so I can only come to one conclusion; that it is a deliberate attempt for whatever reason, to contravene the laws of the state at every opportunity!I therefore ask yet again……WHAT ARE THEIR MOTIVES AND WHY IS IT THAT MY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO TURN A BLIND EYE TO THIS SORT OF PRACTICE????? Hmmmmmmmmmm
Question remains: was he above 65? If he was and the constitution has that age limit then it continues to show the Skerrit administration’s blatant disrespect for the constitution of Dominica. Hence the reason for an effective opposition in Dominica. I bet there are highly competent lawyers in dominica who can full that post.
As we have been saying the power is in the hands of the people of D’ica we are standing up for the CONSTITUTION of D’ica and I’m proud that we are effecting changes thanks to you Mr.Tiyani Behanzin information.
levi pretending like he was not awear of the man age
Thank you Lennox Linton and Tiyani!!!
While you are saying thanks, remember…”who laughs last, laughs the best”
You should think before you post because you a contradicting yourself and you must go over your previous comments before posting
Laugh what? is a jock. Everything for all you is a game, like is play people playing
ONCE PEOPLE POSTING THINGS THAT DO NOT SUIT YOU ALL. YOU NOT POSTING IT CARYY ON DNO
ADMIN: Stop posting in all CAPS and your comments will be accepted. That was made clear in our disclaimer.
well well give teyane the job papa bondieau look like my country curse man
***THANK GOD***
It MIGHT have been proven he WAS over 65yrs. old
Now, can we get someone who can at least give us AT LEAST least 10 years of service before reaching 65??
Next time we must verify what’s on these CV. That way we will not waste time!
I’m sure we can find a very qualified person[with integrity] right here at home.
-Thanks
Well the powers that be DO NOT WANT SOMEONE WITH INTEGRITY, they want someone they can manipulate.
Why do operatives of the Civil Service always find and present opportunities for the opposition to “kill” government? If the present situation is because of his age, then there is no reason why such information could not be had earlier during the vetting process. I take the Ag’s word (an honorable man) that Mr. De Freitas was asked a straight question about his age. Where is our due diligence mechanism to spot these issues. If age is the issue at hand, then the opposition has a real cause to criticize the government for what on the surface appears to be sheer ineficiency – at least in this matter. No excuses. Only ill ness or a unilateral withdrawal by the Mr. defreitas could absolve the government from the media one onslaught that this case presents. After all, was Behanzin correct about theage. The Hon. AG ison record dispelling any such rumour? When the matter came up I though this was just politics, since a simple matter such as this could easily have been cleared once the application was received. Or was it a situation that those involved in reviewing the applications did not know what they were about or the gentleman hid his age? I have no evidence about that one. But the AG better have a good explanation cause he should be held accountable. Whatever the outcome though, I still staying where I am. after all we all miscalculate and we all do silly and often times costly mistakes anyway.
One of these days you will STOP talking on both sides of your mouth. Say what you have to say so we can vote up or down. Dont MIX the message thus creating a dilemma. You know what they were trying to do in bringing Mr. De Freitas to Dca as DPP. Just check his record where he currently is serving. Yes, its one of protecting his masters and not the people. But just remember “Change Must Come” to my blessed land.
Assertive, NOT Agressive!
he looks 55 to me. Thank you mister AG
If he looks 55, then I am 10
well yes
Behanzin was right!!
Heyyyyy!!! Boi look bowdel wi boi!!
