On Thursday December 24, 2009, O. D. Brisbane & Sons made its annual Christmas donations to eight charitable organizations from around the island. The organizations chosen were REACH, Grotto Home, Dominica Infirmary, Alpha Centre, CARE, Grange Home, Operation Youth Quake and St. Vincent de Paul.  Each was given a variety of grocery items including a ham and turkey.

Every month, O. D. Brisbane & Sons has given groceries to these charities going back a few years.

O. D. Brisbane in keeping with its corporate policy of Caring and Sharing by giving back to the community recognized 2009 as “The Year of the Family.” From the beginning of the year to mid December 2009, all customers who shopped at Brizee’s Mart and spent $100.00 was given a Brizee’s Mart dollar to place in the Year of the Family fund and the customer also received a $1.00. The accumulated earnings from the Year of the Family promotion came up to over $17,000.00.

This year, Kairi FM again approached Brizee’s Mart to participate in the fourth annual “Kairi FM Celebrity Supermarket Sweep,” where groceries collected from the sweep were donated to a charitable organization. Based on the premise of the promotion which tied into the Brisbane’s Corporate Policy, the management of O.D Brisbane and Sons decided to participate in the event.

The supermarket was filled with excitement as two of Dominica’s popular Deejays “Alfy”, who represented the Alpha Center, and “Mystic”, Operation Youth Quake, participated in the sweep.  DJ Alfy emerged the winner of the sweep and groceries worth over $1500.00 were donated to the Alpha Center.  The event was carried live on Kairi FM.
