Below is a Christmas message from Leader of the Opposition Hector John.
During the Christmas season we share a time of joy, sharing, healing and forgiveness. These become the norm as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It brings the reassurance of peace on earth and goodwill towards men. This season also provides the opportunity for deep self reflection over the past year which ought to provide guidance for the coming year. We also examine our relationships with God and each other, while we also introspect on our personal growth and trials. The valuable and uninterrupted time taken to examine what worked and what failed should never be underestimated as it provides new possibilities towards future personal triumphs.
In the Beatitudes in Matthew Chapter 5, we read, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” As we reflect on the past year, this scripture verse is very instructive. This verse underlines the magnitude of spiritual contemplation as it helps to filter out the negatives of this world. Spiritual contemplation also provides the latitude for more to be done through us in the sight of God that will positively impact those who are spiritually or physically weak.
Have we spoken for the voiceless and helped bring clarity where ignorance exists? Did we challenged our spiritual, political and civic leaders towards ensuring the enhancement of the socio-economic situation of the less fortunate? These questions should confront our sincerity as we reflect during this season of Goodwill. We should always seek to be our brother’s keeper as we are empowered through soul-searching. That is why self reflection is paramount in the process of one’s personal growth.
Learning something new about ourselves or learning from our own experiences can help achieve true personal growth. Personal growth is one of the greatest things which impacts on every aspect of someone’s life. That is why when we engage in deep self-analysis we ought not to be selective but honest, broadminded and detailed. Irrespective of how painful an experience might have been it has to be dealt with in order that new possibilities may spring out. When there is true personal growth one develops humility, compassion, integrity and responsibility. All these qualities are demonstrated during the celebration of Christ’s birth and this year is no exception.
British Poet, Edward Young said, “A soul without reflection is like a pile without inhabitant, to ruin runs.” The great philosopher, Socrates also said “an unexamined life is not worth living”, this underlines the value of self reflection. That reflection has to be deep and sincere to achieve the desired result of self improvement. This soul searching should bring forth a renaissance. That rebirth should draw you closer to your Lord and Savior as you do things that will be pleasing in his sight. Let us all be a conduit of peace, joy and happiness and live lives of sacrifice for the common good of all. I encourage all to give with a willing heart and never be inhibited or be dictated by your financial limitations in order to give freely. “Freely you have received; freely give.”
During this Christmas season as we all celebrate this joyous occasion with family and friends, I wish to invite us all to find some time to reflect. Let us do it for our personal growth as we seek to impact better the life of others. Let us be at peace with ourselves as we look forward to making a meaningful contribution to each other and our communities and by extension, our country, in the New Year. In this coming year we should also resolve to be void of selfishness, hatred and misrepresentation and replace these with a saturation of love, humility and moral purpose.
I do invite all of us to act on this simple but priceless message of reflection during this Christmas season, and I along with the wonderful and productive people of my constituency to include, -Coulibistrie, Morne Rachette and Salisbury extend a Merry Christmas and Productive 2012 to everyone.

I alongside with many other members from the SALISBURY CONSTITUENCY are very much disturbed at the kind of treatment that is vetted out against our MP SPAGGS. There is a quiet sense of uneasiness in our area at the recent intent on EDISON C JAMES to replace Ron as leader of our party. We are very much curious over the party’e boycott of parliament and now the veil is removed the picture is now absoultely clear over this real so called boycott matter. Spaggs really neeed to see through this DECEPTION and we are prepared to stand by him and throw his hat into the leadership race for leader of the uwp. One question needs to be asked………….
WHY IS IT THAT SPAGGS IS GOOD FOR LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION AND IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AS PARTY LEADER ?
