Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Justina Charles has made a plea to those who resort to violence and other anti-social acts to refrain to these actions.

Charles, who was speaking at the opening ceremony for the 32nd Independence Celebrations on Saturday, said “we must put an end to violence in Dominica” and that persons should learn to resolve conflict by peaceful means.

“In trying to resolve issues there is no need to resort to violence. We must find peaceful ways to resolve our conflict and to let Dominica to be known as a land of peace and a place where people can visit and have the ultimate experience in peace and tranquillity,” she stated.

“Thus we must work earnestly towards building a positive image for Dominica. As patriotic citizens we are the ones who must build and shape that image of Dominica,” the minister said.

Charles said that those who resort to anti-social acts are “destroying the fabric of both their families and their communities by extension”.

I would think that some Dominicans have sense, but common sense really isn’t so common anymore… as a matter of fact it was never even common. In this time and age. You people are not even being professional here with some of these idiotic comments. “THAT IS WHY YOU REQUEST SKERRIT DIRECTLY”… seems to me that you people don’t see he is one body and not multiple. If you don’t see the man or the bishop. You figure that they aren’t doing anything behind the scenes. OMG… I’d think otherwise for you all but suddenly, you are all increasing foolishness. Foolishness and NONSENSE is become popular in de place.

The Cultural minister is pleading to you all as a country to live in peace. DO YOU WANT HER TO TIE AND CHAIN EVERYBODY DOWN AND PUT A GUN TO THEIR HEAD TO MAKE THEM DO WHAT THEY WANT???…. THINK THINK THINK!!!.. GOSH I MEAN SERIOUSLY. PUT ON UR THINKING CAPS DOMINICANS….. The ministers, the prime minister and other government officials are not the ones that can stop these things just like that. IT BEGINS WITH US AS A PEOPLE… have a conscience. This is what she is trying to say. regardless if she has to go to the prime minister and plead and beg for her ministry but they are doing what they can with the amount of resources they possess. it is not only in dominica things are tight and these things are happening. These things are currently happening everywhere. YOU ALL SHOULD BE THANKING THE MINISTER… they are not only to act act act… yes i understand that is what everyone wants to see.
BUT THINK ABOUT IT…. .even if u dont see something doesnt mean action is not taking place.
I thought u would think better. The ministers are leaders and a leader also has to provide advice to their followers and try their best to create a common ground….

Instead of begging for skerrit and begging and giving on the bishop… try for once to think about your life and your future, that of your family, community and then by far, your country will achieve.

INSTEAD OF WASTING ALL YOU BLEDDY TIME and coming on comment and being IGNORANT… think positively and put something positive. Negative energy only brings negativity. Assist the ministers in their voyage to make this country prosperous and stop making their lives and work miserable… the economy and the world is already in the tight situation and everyone has to make the best of it… not because that country and this country have this and that, Dominica need it… Dominica used to be reallllll nice before. We can do it again. Independence is a time for celebration and togetherness as one nation and a people. .its a time for prayer for God’s continued guidance and protection. For now the minister is doing part of her job and giving a message… but instead some of you bounce back and bad talk when someone is talking positively. then you sit back and expect DOMINICA TO MOVE FORWARD…

Tell them Justina we in Grand Bay start leading by example. It is sad to see the level of violence in Dominica when u have siblings killing siblings, a young man killing someone for just looking at him,a mother killing her two daughters u have to ask ur self what is going on.It’s a problem that the globe is facing.

    @STUPES!!: It is sad.
You are so full of violence, that you have no idea what you are trying to say. I suggest you read what Minister Charles said and act on it.
But,,,the point others are trying to make is, The prime Minister is the Minister of security, and he is the one who should be addressing the violence we have going on in this country, and not the Minister of Culture.
    I will stop here.

@d minister: Dont expect that my friend- particularly my church leaders, you are not going to hear them – to talk AGAINST crime would be intruding on the turf of the Minister of Security ( the PM ) and believe me, THEY dont want to do that ! They want to continue to pick up the crumbs that “fall from the Masters table ! ”
My leaders, my Pastors , please stop the compromise -Call SIN, SIN – Call Evil, Evil in this beautiful country- that is what you were ordained to do.
Pastors ,Church leaders cant you see that while you are busy cozing up with these politicians,Dominica is rapidly deteriorating ?
What is it that Politicians can give you that God can’t ?
Indeed this is a sorry state of affairs.- I am a Christian and my leaders have really dissapointed me !

Madam minister if you and the Skerrit government of which you are a part were concerned about crime, the state would not be stolen from, and you all would have gone to parliament long time to enact laws to combat the escalation of crime in the country…
This is diversionary tactic, empty talk and a red herring to distract the populace froIm concentrating on corruption in government ..It has reached insurmountable proportions in Dominica..

Another 32nd Independence Celebrations. Expect Ministers to run their mouth. We wish those words would come from their hearts. The Minister has yet to mention and explain the root causes of increased violence and crimes in Dominica. Conflicts cannot be seriously resolved unless the proper diagnosis done and actions taken based on the findings of that in depth diagnosis. A doctor would be mad to try to cure a patient’s medical problem by simply giving the person medicines, before first doing a complete check up of the said patient’s problems.

Again just empty talk by our Ministers. A positive image for Dominica cannot be built when persons in public office are engaged in all sorts of allegations of nepotism, secret deals, amassing massive wealth in quick time through controversial means. Those are extremely bad examples, irresponsible behaviour displayed by persons in ‘High places.’ Even though patriotic citizens investigate and reveal those corrupt practices by Public officials in an effort to build and shape that alternative image of Dominica, they are ridiculed and demonised.

Dominicans are slowly being convinced that many wrong things are being done especially by persons of ‘HIGH REPUTE’ and justice is not taking its rightful course to remedy or stop those wrongful deeds. As the saying goes, ‘THERE CAN BE NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE.’ There are numerous examples of white collar crimes committed that are just swept under the carpet in Dominica, while our youths face jail for the pettiest of crimes.

Those many examples of white collar crimes are anti-social acts also, Madame Minister, that are destroying the fabric of the communities and the country that are not being resolved. When and how many times do those same Ministers condemn such acts? In most cases, such acts are being condoned and excuses are made. The youth are hearing about and seeing those in ‘HIGH PLACES’ involved in those anti-social acts. Expect chaos when and if the good examples do not come from the Top, from the more senior citizens.

Does it matter which Minister gives the speech? Think of the contents of the speech
. The speech was very good.. Infact, what she said is the truth. Dominica is
our country and everyone should work together to help each other
She was elected by the people she has the right to give such a speech, so why the “HATE”
This lady is a professional, i heard her speak twice, and i was very impressed
She carries herself well and we should all take her message from the speech
and make Dominica a better place for the Dominicans residing in Dominica
and all over the world. When the islands fail we all fail together

Boy Oh Boy – those speech writers in Dominica are on a roll for this independence season – One great speech after another.

But my complex question is: “where is the Beef?” – How are we going to solve this violence epidemic? – what deterrent is there?

The Catholic church preached abstain from sex before marriage for years, “may say ple moi kokay” – All my children are out of wedlock, and I’m still catholic – but guess what? – AIDS slow me down, doh. That’s called a deterrent.

We need Capital Punishment back as a legal option and a DETERRENT!!!!! – We don’t have to Hang, Fry, or Shoot those murderers, just put them to sleep permanently with lethal injections – That’s so humane for all you hypocrites – better than their victims got, I bet you Clement James and the others would have preferred that exit if they had the option!

Now, this is not a cure all, but the murder rate will be greatly reduce and there will be PEACE and TRANQUILTY in DOMINICA once again – Thank You.

I guess that now Independence celebrations around the corner, Mrs. Minister is pleading to allow the festivities to go on without violence so she and her government can look good. I applaud your efforts but it is too selfish!! All during the year, murders and other violence. I have not heard a speech.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is His Lordship Bishop Gabriel Malzaire still the leader of the Catholic Church in Dominica? I have not heard a word from him in all of this. A few years ago, he was always on the media talking about ‘Passa Passa’. Is passa passa more important than murder? Why are all these people keeping their mouths shut? Are you so enveloped in politics that you do not want to offend the politicians?

Please, I need to see more people do something about this violence. I need to see more people speak up. I need to see more big wigs and influential people get out of their shell and speak up against this lawlessness. I need to see the Prime Minister implore the judicial system to be more effective. We need action!!!
