Dancing Girls at the Antrim Valley Sculpture Studio and Gardens

The Dancing Girls

Roger Burnett’s sculpture ‘The Dancing Girls’ has recently been added to the exhibits at the Antrim Valley Sculpture Studio and Gardens.

The two life-size figures were commissioned in the year that the sculptor won one of England’s premier awards for public sculpture and depict his daughters, Tania and Trina.  Also on display is a recently completed life-size figure titled ‘Daughter of the Caribbean Sun’, together with a new collection of watercolours titled ‘Working from Life’.

Beginning on the 11th of this month the venue will host a series of Saturday workshops on the Creative Arts and Dominica’s Natural History.

The first workshop in the series, to be held on Saturday, December 11, is an exploration of Dominica’s insect world by entomologist Brendan Morris.  Brendan’s passion for “bugs” is infectious and his talk will be followed by a field trip through the gardens at Antrim.   The workshop will begin at 11 am and end at 2 pm.

On Saturday, December 18, Burnett will give a workshop on painting the portrait and figure.  The presentation will offer a rare opportunity to watch the artist demonstrate his mastery of rapidly working from the live model in charcoal and watercolour.  The workshop will begin at 11 am and end at 3 pm.

Scheduled for the New Year are workshops on geology, creative thinking, horticulture and a series of life drawing master classes.

Mr. Burnett is very a talented sculptor and artist!! I think his work should be displayed in other areas in Dominica. Sculptures can be made of prominent men of our history that can be placed in strategic places as monuments or landmarks, example the bayfront, where we have the cruise ship birth. This place has so much history; it was the point of exchange of slaves etc… I thick what used to be the mountain fountain with is now a planter can be converted as a pedestal for one of those great slaves (Bala for example) I am sure it would strike interest and enhance the whole outlook of the bayfront. Compare that to the “Raging Bull” on wall street in NY city, every visitor wants to take a picture with the bull.
A proposal for the Mayor. Lets make our city look good. GREAT WORK Mr. Burnett!!!

Do you have a website? Can you give more details as to the address of Antrim Valley Sculpture?

Yes, we do have a website: wwwsculpturestudiodominica.com

Over the next couple of weeks we will be updating the site as we’ve added a lot of attractions to the Studio and Gardens – including a small and secluded restaurant – since we first set up the site a couple of years ago.

We are located between Roger and Springfield, on the “almost” completed road from Canefield to Pont Casse.
