President of the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA), Jonathan Vidal, has resigned mere months after he was elected.
Vidal, who was elected as President in November 2013, has cited “circumstances beyond my control” as the reason for his resignation.
He did not elaborate.
In an interview with Dominica News Online on Monday, Vidal explained that he resigned on February 6th, 2014 and the fate of the DHTA now lies in the hands of the rest of the board members.
“I don’t know if anybody is acting in the position right now but I would expect the Vice President to step in,” he said.
Renee Whitchurch Aird- Douglas currently holds the position of Vice President of the DHTA.
When asked if any of the plans which he set out for the DHTA had begun, Vidal stated, “not really because I said before I had not met the body and it was difficult for us to figure where we were going, and it was not a one man show, so I could not decide on my own what we were doing.”
He noted however that he will remain on the association as a member but is no longer interested in serving on the board.
Vidal, who is a senior tour operator, received 20 votes at DHTA’s Annual General Meeting in November.
This was his fourth time serving as president of the association.
so suddenly Mr Vidal has become a bad man because he made a decision about how to invest his time and his talents a man who is known and respected by all has become a target overnight. No one targets anyone who comes forward to run for the UWP so why is it an issue even if he resigned to contest for the DLP. doesn’t he have the same democratic right to make himself available like all the guys in UWP. grow up my people.
Jono Vidal, you cannot be serious. Why the backward move to make yourself insignificant? Shanks is more popular than you are. Tolo may be considering contesting as an ‘Independent’. If that is true, I suggest you don’t embarrass yourself my boy.

Why don’t you age gracefully with pride and dignity and stay out of Skeritt mess. We do not like his policies. If you join he you will certainly lose your respect in that village because we are aware of all the financial wrong he has done to this country.

Mr. Vidal can not have given up his post at the DHTA because he has been selected as a constituency candidate for the Labour Party. He says that his resignation is because of “circumstances beyond my control”. To be or not to be a candidate is within his control, nobody forcing him. Therefore, unless he is lying it must be something else that caused his abrupt departure.
Both Ms. Whitford and Mr. Vidal resigned from this mess they call a DHTA Board. The power struggle over there is great hahahahaha these people are real funny. Hahahahaha
Jonathan know well he want to run for the Labour party and he still go up. He also know he doh have the real head to move d DHTA. Even doh dey say he was Pres for 4 years. Hmm, Mr Vidal, nice to know you are being roped into the political arena. As a friend I wish you well, but hope you can give a different face to the DLP, do not allow anybody to use you, this is my best advice to you.

Mr. Vidal is tired with the position. He held the position 4 times. He made his contribution, no matter how we think of it.. He look well relaxed in the photo.
So sorry there he was knowing what to do but always others blame and do not doing nothing and also forget the board members are not paid to run the DHTA The are voluntarism and have their one business tu run as well.

Some start a new business and come and tell what the board member have to do!!but do nothing self.

Sound like bad leadership to me. Mr Vidal a leader find way to get people to follow him or her. If the people wont follow then instead of pointing fingers look in the mirror.
I do find it interesting that Mr Vidal is expressing interest in an association that he is insinuating is dead.
This is disrespectful! Elected in November and resigns in February? Total disregard for the membership of the organization. He should be expelled if his reason is not satisfactory.

Yea man, my foot, Mr. Vidal must be honest. It is alleged that he is Skeritt’s boy to run against Spraggs John in the Salisbury Constituency.
If the allegations are true that would not be the best way to get the public to votes for him after all if he had intentions of running for the DLP party he should have given someone else a chance to run for DHTA president instead. WHY NOW !
