The Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW) said it is saddened by the tragic death of Vernie Julien of Roseau.
Julien, affectionately known as ‘Auntie Vernie,’ lost her life after the upper floor of her dwelling home was destroyed by fire on Monday night.
President of the DNCW Josephine Dublin Prince, in a statement to media Thursday, said her death was unfortunate.
“Our dear sister will be missed for her frequent words of encouragement and her caring nature. The DNCW is convinced that our heavenly father will comfort her family and friends at this time of their loss and grief. It is our hope that the family will find comfort in the thought that our savior will be with them through the sad period,” she said.

I agree with you 100%. There are too many hypocrites in our society. The authorities are always reactive instead of proactive to ensure that our senior citizens are protected and well-cared.
Auntie Vernie (as she was well-known)should have never been in the house on her own at that age. I am certain if she had a younger person with her on that fateful night, there is no way that person would have allowed her to go back in. She would have been taken to a place of safety instead of going back to search for her companion ( a dog, I was told).
Auntie Vernie’s intention was to save her dog, and that was all she focused on at that time of danger. Her action clearly demonstrated, that she was a kind-hearted lady.
May her soul rest in peace and may her wonderful memories bring peace and comfort to her family.
I hope we learn from this tragic incident and give more consideration to the senior citizens in our community.
SADDENED!
Could not agree more with your dispensation on the situation at home. I speak from personal experience of my mom in my absense. The scores of people she cared for in her time only to be disrespected for the multiude she cared for. We are living zombies on the commonwealth of D/ca.Wecan’t wake up or should i say we can’t wake them up.I think the entrie population need a jolt or a zap but remember they are Zombie just exsisting so jolts nor zaps applies.Time just pass them by.Once there is corruption and sewo all’s fine.Oh what a country what a people a nation of loafers and hypocrites as you so blantantly (intheir face) pointed out.Priests polititicans lay people a bunch of opportunist and parasites Zombies who you can’t wake for they sleep not.
why do we always come out after the damage is done to sound like we care, while they neglect the elderly when they are there alone.
Who say Auntie Vernie was neglected? Get your facts straight.
………….. just this bull indictes not who you are but what.It seems the cap fits. so wear it proudly……….. what ever you are or would like to be………. you are reacting cause a nerve was pinched in your body.Guilty feet has got no rythm so to emotions when attacked(not even directly. fry in thy oil.
RIP Aunty Vernie
