Relief items costing over US$10,000 have been delivered to the Dominica Red Cross Society compliments of Island Fun Tours and colleagues in Martinique.
Bottled water, dry and canned foods, clothes and hygiene supplies were all sourced in Martinique and were officially handed over at a ceremony held at the Dominica Red Cross compound in Goodwill on Tuesday 22 September 2015 by the President of the Island Fun Tours, Blair Webb, to the President of the Society, Phillip White.
“I would like to take the opportunity to present this gift to the Red Cross,” Webb said. “We have been working for the last couple of weeks in trying to get as much food and water to Dominica to try to assist people that need it.”
According to him, his company has been working in collaboration with Carib Sea Lines and Soger Martinique to have the supplies transported in four trips to Dominica and expressed his thanks to them.
Meantime White said the Red Cross is grateful for the gesture.
“We want to say a very big thank you to Mr. Webb and his company and the people in Martinique for coming to the assistance of the people in Dominica,” he stated. “It is a good feeling that persons out there in the wider world are listening and are aware of what’s happening in Dominica and they have this passion and this compassionate feeling and that they are able to come forward as individuals, as companies, as corporate citizens to assist. It is also noteworthy that they are coming through the Red Cross to make those donations.”
White also gave the assurance that the items will reach those in need.
“We at the Red Cross are happy and delighted to be associated with Mr. Web and his company and that we will give him the assurance that with our volunteers who are trained in disaster management, logistics and distribution of food, that the items we receive here this morning will reach the persons who are most in need,” he said.
Island Fun Tours is based in Roseau and White took the opportunity to urge the public to patronize the company.
“By supporting his company that he is able to give back to the community.”
Henri Burnet of Soger Martinique Tour Company said he was happy to participate in the relief efforts.
More supplies are expected to come in by next week.
great effort Webb ..you have stepped up and delivered —so the naysayers and haters must respect ..
they talk -you work ..looking forward to your progress now that you are back in DA..
OUR DA folks to a large extent hate the movers and shakers .dwarfs wish to cut down the stature of those who can deliver by way of with giant ambitions …
It is great to see that Dominica continues to receive relief supplies from every corner of the world. What I would like to know at this time is, how much money i.e. cash or in pledge have we received to rebuild the country because as important as the relief is, we gonna be in need of a lot of money to rebulid. Furthermore, knowing the lack of transparency of the authorities, if we know where we are today, we will be able to do our own maths and do our own policing.
If you are so confident that there ia a “lack of transparency of the authorities” why are you even asking? Further, what authority do youhave in doing your “own maths and do our own policing”
