On Sunday May 17, 2015 the Dominica Emerald Organization of New Jersey (DEONJ) embraced the opportunity to promote Dominica at a Youth Appreciate Week’s Diversity Festival in Livingston, New Jersey.
The five-hour event which started from 1:00 p.m hoped to give residents in the town of Livingston an opportunity for families to learn about other cultures, take pride in their own heritage and enjoy time with friends.
Speakers at the function on behalf of DEONJ were Founder and a current member of the Board of Trustees, Ann Timothy and current President, A. Elsa Rolle.
They both shared with the audience Dominica’s rich culture and heritage as well as it’s lush beauty, black sand beaches, many rivers among other things. Of course, the two shared brochures, maps, and postcards with the many who stopped at their display table.
Among the samples foods and drinks on display that people tasted were rough cake, homemade bread, bakes and the refreshing sorrel drink.
Some had already heard of Dominica, but there were some, especially the children, who got their first introduction of Dominica at the event.
Without a doubt, Dominica will now be an option in vacation travel plans. For instance, Helena who is originally from Israel said her friend Victoria moved to Dominica four years ago and she is yet to visit her. However, after meeting with DEONJ officials she and her husband made up their minds that their visit to Dominica was inevitable. Attending the festival with Rolle and Mrs. Timothy were Dale Timothy and Cecilia Philogene and her spouse.
Along with the USA, some of the other countries participating were Nigeria, Italy, Haiti, Israel, Peru, India, and Sweden.
Well that’s certainly different that BBQ Chicken, Playing Domino and Drinking Rum; or banquets to see who observe and talk about others.
Country first, promote the island and its culture to outsiders, instead of us Dominicans who know about the place already. Good job.
My information is that this organisation is closely associated with the DLP.
Not sure if it’s still is, but wont be surprise if that is still the case.
And your point is??…DLP ka twavey
go and read a book donkey
…that includes approximately 60% of us who live at home…..
so true they will be held resposible for the demise of dominica
Intergrity and patriotism at work…Country first!!
