Dominica, the Caribbean: a boy’s own island

Natural swimming pool in Dominica

David Hoppit promised his grandsons a life-changing adventure. They found it on the Caribbean island of Dominica.

Beyond the rusting cannon on a cliff top we noticed a fallen branch – at least we thought it was a fallen branch. As we moved closer the branch slithered quietly into dense undergrowth. Our guide, super-fit Gilles, remarked that the boa constrictor (for that is what it was) was of only modest size. They grow considerably larger than our 10ft specimen.

We were exploring Dominica, largest of the Windward Isles and self-proclaimed natural history island of the Caribbean; and what an abundance of natural history it has.

Dominicans casually walk 10 miles to see their friends? That is so untrue. We use our cell phones to call our neighbour instead of going in the window and shout is 10 miles we will walk. And talking about Dominica is very poor? hmmm I totally disagree with those two points. He eh realise all school kids have bb and almost every home has cable; and don’t talk about private and public vehicles. Our kids all have access to education…stupes. Sometimes I really wish somebody would explain to me what they mean by poverty.

Dominica occasionally makes headlines overseas via TV as well about its natural beauty and sceneries, friendly people, rain forests and clean drinking water, etc. The last time I visited I drank water directly from the pipe and it was delicious and refreshing. It is clean and healthy water. Sweet Dominica!
Pleased to know that the visitor and his sons had a wonderful time and enjoyed every aspect of their visit including the sceneries.

Dominica made the telegraph. Well done! And it is not the first time but this one was lengthy and really about the island. Good marketing because people who read the telegraph are the ones who do holidays. We getting there. Our time for tourism will come. Let’s just keep Dominica very clean and keep our forests green. We have something very few countries can boast about. Everywhere else is becoming the same. We definitely different.

Good story and great exposure for Dominica and stakeholders in tourism.

Dominica is so bless and someone people are trying their best to destroy the name of this country with their dirty politics.

Wonderful feature about Dominica. It is just unfortunate that foreigners have to come here to tell us what we have but take for granted.

      Because they are lazy.

It’s because they are lazy and they spend their last $ on fast food instead of cooking a well balanced home cook meal.
