Kirk Parillon, a resident of Colihaut, is set to launch his first ever app titled ‘Caribbean Duty Calculator’ on the Google Play Store, under the developer name of ‘F50 Studios’.
On Monday 21st November, the app will available to be downloaded for free.
The goal of the application is to calculate duty estimations on various goods imported into Caribbean countries.
Parillon informed DNO that the app was born out of collaboration with individuals and entities engaging in e-commerce business. It bases estimations on the Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF) of imported items.
The target markets for the app are internet shoppers, brokers and importers, and gives calculated duty estimations on vehicles, appliances, beverages and electronics.
In an interview Parillon told DNO that the app aids in persons understanding of various taxes and duties that come with the importation of goods.
He also highlighted the complexity of importation being shown in a comprehensible manner.
“The app gives an estimate of duty payable on frequent goods imported in the country so you don’t have to be puzzled on the amount of duty you have to pay, that’s the core service the app offers to the public,” he explained.
When asked of the complications endured when taking on this venture, Parillon said that the drive needed to stay motivated was something that was given much attention.
He said that it was necessary to do so in order ensure the start and completion of the developing app because “desire gets you through the finish line.”
Parillon urged any young persons who are interested in the field of technology, specifically app development, to take advantage of the opportunities that are present.
“Many ideas for mobile apps have still not been thought of yet or an idea is there already but it doesn’t support your country or region and this is where you can make your first mark as a young app developer who has interest in mobile apps,” he explained.
Parillon holds an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science at the Dominica Sate College (DSC) and another Associate’s Degree in Information and Communication Technology at Lead Institute.
