Dominicans in New York celebrate Mothers Day

Members of the group

The Committee for the Improvement of Bense, Anse de Mai and Anse Soldat (CIMBAA), hosted its 2nd annual Mothers Day bash this past weekend.

The group, which comprises persons from that community who currently live in the New York metropolitan area, has been in existence since 2010.

Guest speakers for the occasion included Dr. Karen Gordon (PSY.D), an experienced psychologist, specializing in the disruptive behaviors of children and adolescents, as well as anxiety and depression in adults, and Anad Lonia Thomas, RN, Ms, GRNA(graduate Registred Nurse).

Both professionals trace their parentage to the village.

Euthelie Marcelle received standing ovations for her solo renditions, and Kay Scotland received a Mothers Day poem.

Chairman for the occasion, Mac Gordon, welcomed the audience and invited them  to join CIMBAA in the first ever Bense-Anse De Mai- Anse Soldat Reunion, scheduled for June 29 to July 9.

DJ Falkon kept the crowd away from their seats with some old and new school tunes, generating a sweating mass of revelers on the dance floor.

CIMBAA is currently working with the local chapter in Dominca to formulate plans for the upcoming Reunion, and to  implement some of its goals. These include obtaining better street lighting, erecting a village bus stop, obtaining contemporary supplies for the health center and establishing a village library.

Further information on CIMBAA can be obtained on its website, www.cimbaa.com and its Facebook page.

Mr. Doe needs to shut up and be more family oriented. Support DEVELOPMENT, get more involved in your village, group or job. avoid inhereting negetivity. Remmember you are part of that family, let your DADDY BEN rest in peace, he was very family oriented(Didn’t they tell you)!!!!! THUMBS UP TO THE NEW YORK GROUP.

It was a wonderful event!! I am not from Bense but who cares…am from DA. I attend most of CIMBAAS events and I must say I have fun. My dearly beloved teacher Mac Gordon love ya! Can’t speak for anyone else……I had a blast…..one thing I would recommend cut down on the speeches a little more time for dancing. That said well done guys!!

John Doe, the most important person from the tri-village NOW…his name was not on the list during the formation of the group as the most important individual to reach out to so he is mad. How dare they left his name out. And because of this, he wants nothing to do with helping with the improvement of his village. Instead of contributing he is trashing. I know who you are because you talk too much.

God has spared our lives for a time like this to be reunited with each other and to make a valuable contribution to our little triad of Bense, Anse de Mai and Anse soldat. Please let’s stop this bitterness among us and let’s renew our hearts and learn to live in peace and unity with each other. Forward ever- Backward never.

Clearly, John Doe has hit a nerve. A BIG BIG NERVE! I would like to submit for discussion at your next meeting the following question please: “From the denizen nationals of Bense, Anse-De-Mai and Anse-Soldat living in the Tri-State area, why did the President of the Group, on its formation, specifically list on his webage the names of the individuals he was interested in reaching?

My lips are sealed. To find out who I am you may go to to the Obeah man in Calibishie. Now I have set the conversation ball rolling, and from the Department of Deja Vu all over again, I rest my case.

    Happy reunion to all.

John Doe so it’s all about the president!!?? I knew it. I just knew it. I could not understand what the negativity was about all along. Now I get it. Hater. You sound like a nobody trying to be somebody. I know you want the best for your village but you just don’t like certain progressive people from your village taking the helm. You had your opportunity, sat on the sidelines and never did a darned thing to help your village improve. Now you are hating on others. I guess traveling has made you somebody eh!!?? Pathetic!!

SOME DOMINICANS ARE TOO SMALL MINDED. Even thou Kaye Scotland had received a poem on mother’s day why should that be a problem? Kaye is like a mother because she mothers many kids on a daily basis and she is loved and looked at as a mother by those kids. She definitely is like a mother to my own daughter. She has the quality of a mother and gives her heart to children better that many women who have conceived a child. Carrying a child does not always constitute the word MOTHER, because there are many women who have never carried a child that are better mothers than biological mother. Kaye is a very nice person who does not criticize people and treats others the way she wants to be treated. She is definite not a judgmental person. Can’t you see that DNO made a mistake? Wake up my people and lets love and appreciate people for who they are and for the positive contribute they give to society and to Dominicans on whole.
Big-up to the Bense Massive for a job well done

This is the poem she recited.

    MOTHER
This was my issue before I gave hid to the spirit
But for some of you, you may still be going through it
For others take heed and gain strength from this my story
So somewhere in the future, you will not utter the words “I’m sorry”
    1
Mother what a wonderful gift from Yahweh
Woman what a precious and beautiful doorway
I wished I had my mother again
For my heart had been grieved with so much pain
    2
I would have given anything to have her again
Cause I wanted to get rid of all that pain
But I knew I couldn’t go back to the past
Yahweh take away the pain, I didn’t want it to last

    3
A mother should be someone you could go to with problems
But sometimes it’s difficult to confide in them
Please pray for the spirit of over-standing
So you’ll develop a friendship that is everlasting

    4
She carried you courageously for nine months or so
The discomforts of pregnancy, she certainly did know
So look at your mother in the YAH kind of way
And tell her you love her on this mother’s day
    5
We have not yet understood, the true meaning of motherhood
And to experience the real joy of childhood
I wished I could have lived it all over again
For friendship with my mother, I’d surely obtain
    6
So mothers take note of what happened to me
I knew not such friendship, oh how great that could be
Be a channel of blessing to your offspring and you’ll see
That YAHWEH through his spirit has ordained this to be
    7
Though I may not have a mother today
But YAHWEH is a mother to me I must say
He consoled me and assured me that he was always there
When the pain of my mother, when the pain of my mother I did painfully bear

To all our supporters, thanks. To our detractors, sorry you feel the way you do. We at CIMBAA aim to unite not divide. This organization has no political affiliation. We came together to do something positive for our tri-community. We have attempted to reach out to other members of the community to join us and continue to extend that invitation. We would welcome your involvement. We encourage other Dominicans to do the same for their communities. And for clarification, in many small villages in Dominica you can find that most of the citizens of those villages belong to 2 or 3 clans or extended families. We are proud to belong to an extended family that can work together to improve our community instead of destroying it. We do appreciate your continued support and please go to our website for news about future events.

John Doe why are you so bitter!!?? BTW No one removed anybody from the group. People have a way of blaming others for their own shortcomings. Both you and that person “Stop It”!! This is making both of you look ugly on the inside.

Why can my people be positive in hteri thinking? I would have expected if persons travel to New YOrk their mentality would be different to those of us who remained in Domninca. Apparently, some of us carry our baggage wherever we go. Famillie wachen!!!!!!!!!!!!
People it takes alot of hard work, determination and sacrifice to pull off any reunion. Instead of staying on the sideline and criticicize jump in and do something POSITIVE. Mac, Falcon and the gang I know you guys are working hard, so too are those faithful in Dominica… They are working hard and getting the same amount of criticizism. Dont let that dent your spirit. At the end if things work well everyone will gloat. Some persons are just prepared to stay out and wait for things to crash. Typical…… Crabs in a barrel.
Whoever that family is trying to bring change to Asse-de-mai, Bense and Anse Soldat keeping forging ahead. Once people are talking something good is happening.. They will eventually jump in or perhaps the Naysayers cannot buy a ticket to come home so they Blue Vex. Couldnt the group help them. That would be nice.

Si mapuis takay chejeur, Obama takay sha mort…

People do what you are doing best. Organize for the benefit of your community, I will be there to provide full support.

Why some people complaining so nuh? The group is called “Committee for the Improvement of Bense, Anse de Mai and Anse Soldat”………so all you want them to invite all Dominicans in New York then.

I commend this group for looking out for their communities. Other Dominicans should emulate them and form their own groups to look after their communities.

  12. May 17, 2012

    To John Doe.
You seem to have a grudge against the Bense group. You should have attended the function. The group invitation is extended to you. Bare in mind when we Dominicans who are living out of Dominica and see’s it fit to form a group and raise funds to develop our village or town, to build a structure, to assit the aged, homeless, a school child the whole of Dominica benefits from the effort. It is sad when a selected few or rather people like you has to come on DNO and criticize the effort of the group. When one person or arganization benefits from a group effort the whole of Dominica benefits for we are doing it not for ourselves or family but for our country. We are showing the world at large that we are in touch with our country and that we have not forgotten where we came from. People like all you make our determination much stronger to assit our community in what ever way we can and what ever contribution we can give we will give. Make yourself useful and join an aorganization that will benefit your village or town.

John Doe, your late father would be ashamed to see what has happened to you. For a young man you’ve taken a much different path than your dad would have. What has caused you to be so negative? And you teach young kids too? Well God have mercy on Dominica!!!

When we hide behind “pen names” on DNO, we tend to criticize EVERYTHING. That behavior would surely change if we were required to reveal our real names.Others have suggested that DNO change their policy, and I support that wholeheartedly.

And you arte so right, i live in New York and heard nothing about this, everything is for a selected few

      • May 17, 2012

New Yorker. It was not for a selected few. It was publized on the radio. Some of us never go to functions when invited and then you all come on DNO and make comments. There are so many groups from Dominica organizing things to benefit Dominica and you all never show up. When there is an article on DNO you all say that it is for a selected few. Well there will be a big Barbeque Jam in July so I am letting you know early. It will be sponsored by the Portsmouth group. The date is either July 21st or 22nd but I know it will be in the Bronx.

Nostalgia. Kaye Scotland did not receive any thing for Mother Day. It should had have written that Kay Scotland recited a poem written for Mother’s. Her Poem was about what a Mother is meant. I was at the function and after reeading the article I said it was not written properly. It must have been a typo error. It is she recited a poem.

In new yorker, on which radio station are you talking about, you need to have a mailing list of Dominicans, i never heard this on any radio stations i do attend all Dominican activities i know of and when i am informed and invited, if you had this on DBS or any of the national radio stations how then do i expect to know when i do not at all times listen to the dominiocan radio station at all times, once again it is because you guys inform or invite a selected few to your functions thats why i was not there.

You are absolutely correct. The word should have been recited. Sometimes the computer changes words that are slightly misspelled but we should always proof read.

    • OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      May 17, 2012

Competition in biology, ecology and sociology is a contest between organisms, animals, individuals, groups, etc. for territory, a niche, or a location of resources, for resources and goods, for prestige, recognition and awards, for mates and group or social status, for leadership; it is the OPPOSITION of COOPERATION. It arises whenever at least two parties strive for a goal which cannot be shared or which is desired individually but not in sharing and cooperation.

    • OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Competition

      1. the act of competing; rivalry for supremacy, a prize, etc
      2. a contest for some prize, honor, or advantage
      3. the rivalry offered by a competitor

CIMBAA is open to anyone who is patriotic to Dominica and to the tri village of Bense, Anse de Mai and Ansoldat. It never occured to you that maybe this so called members of this extended family are the only ones interested in bringing about change in their village? Apparently you are a bitter person and change is something you wouldnt know about. CIMBAA is here to stay, like it or not, and it will continue to do its very best for its people. got it??????

      • John Doe
        May 17, 2012

Invoking the spirit of Daddy Ben everything is a Tora tell Tara. And your response is so typical of Bense. Bitter you say? Get over it already. It’s my opinion.

And as for your statement that “this extended family are the only ones interested in bringing about change in their village” that Sir/Madam, I am not inclined to see in a sacramental light.
Again invoking the Tara tell Tora philosophy, your groups actions in unceremoiously removing “distant” members of the family in favour of “closer” members of the family is an antithesis to altruism if indeed that was ever the motive.

    • jade
      May 17, 2012

You are so pathetic!! What contributions are you making or have you made towards the improvement of your village? You are indeed part of the Tara tell Tora(a first-class propaganda spreading machine). You are out to destroy the good that others are trying to do for their village. These people stick their necks out on weekends to go to meetings(time taken away from family) to discuss ways and means they can help the villages and this is the kind of rhetoric you are coming up with. They did not have to do this. Why don’t you make yourself useful and join a group or form a group. You are despicable. Get off your high horse. Shame on you. In time people will know who you are because apparently, you like to run your mouth and they will know you have turned your back on the very village that raised you.
