Nationals of the Commonwealth of Dominica residing in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis engaged in a series of activities to commemorate Dominica’s 35th Anniversary of Independence.
The celebrations commenced on Friday, 1 November with what was dubbed as ‘Creole on the Green’.
That activity highlighted Dominica’s cultural heritage, mainly through music and local cuisine prepared by the Dominicans employed at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Eastern Caribbean Home Mortgage Bank. The funds raised from this event will be donated to the Dominica Education Trust Fund.
A Mini Expo was held concurrently which showcased craft items produced by the Kalinago people of Dominica and other locally manufactured goods contributed by Haven Scent and Colgate-Palmolive. The agent for Bello in St Kitts and Nevis, Coury and Sons Ltd, also contributed to the display at the Expo.
On Sunday, 3 November, the Dominican contingent participated in a mass of thanksgiving at the Wesley Methodist Church in Basseterre. Dominican, Reverend Joyce Rohan delivered a heart-warming sermon highlighting the history and heritage of Dominica and reiterating the need to embrace each other as one Caribbean people. Immediately following the mass the group socialised at a brunch, at the Ocean Terrance Inn, which served a variety of local Dominican delicacies.
The celebrations culminated in a Flag-raising ceremony on Monday, 4 November at the headquarters of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. Employees of the Bank were “wowed” by the rich ensemble of talent and National Pride displayed by the Dominican contingent all proudly clad in the colourful national wear or variations thereof.
Dominica became independent from Great Britain on 3 November 1978 and independence celebrations have become a major part of the Dominican annual calendar of events with celebrations beginning as early as September each year.
Excellent, Dominicans in St. Kitts and Nevis. Thanks for your efforts at representing.

wherever we may roam,
our hearts will still be turning
to…..” what we have at home.
A wonderful culture
It would be very interested to know how many trained Kitticians are presently working in Dominica? I’m sure not many – a handful maybe. And Mr Skeritt continues to live in a fools paradise by espousing this nonsense about how Dominica is doing better than the other countries in the OECS – One day very soon Skeritt lies are going to catch-up with him BIG TIME !!!
Fool..the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank employs persons from all the islands who are under the Bank’s governance namely, St Kitts, Antigua, Montserrat, Anguilla, Grenada, Dominica, St Vincent and St Lucia.
These folks do not work for the St Kitts government or for Kittitian companies. They work for the ECCB to which all the islands mentioned above, have equal rights…smh
Alas @ Student chile stay in school please!!!!!! Eastern Caribbean Central Bank-ECCB employs (part of their mandate) citizens from all eight member islands and also other qualified individuals from the other non-member islands. Skerrit has nothing to do with them being employed there What is that for me today nah?
