Eat Fish Day definitely off

The seventh annual St. Peters Fisheries Cooperative Eat Fish Day in Colihaut has been postponed.

The event was slated for Sunday, November 9 but organizers said at a press conference on Thursday that Wednesday’s announcement of general election has turned everything upside down.

This weekend the two political parties on the island are planning major events and organizers said they would be meeting on Thursday evening to discuss the matter.

On Friday morning Francis Paul, president of the cooperative, told DNO that the decision was taken to postpone the event.

“The decision was made to postpone it in light of the events that are taking place by the two political parties,” he said.

He noted that a date in December for the event is being discussed.

The event was expected to feature a wide array of fish prepared in different ways, cultural performances and on-stage performances by two major acts.

A 15-man band from Switzerland, who wanted to perform since last year and has already booked their airline flights, and Tripple K global were expected to be the highlight of the day.

The event was a collaboration between the St. Peters Fisheries Cooperative and the Colihaut Village Council.

there are those of us like me who would be looking for somewhere else to go rather to go to political rallies to listen to the same rethoric over and over again– so its a pity that you have already postponed te event – i attended the last couple of years and God willing will come again whenever the date is confirmed.

That’s a poor excuse. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to get people mind away from the stress and dabay of the nasty politics of skerrit and his pampers wearing ministers or ex-ministers. Who knows Skerit, de millionaire, would make an appearance and buy all de fish so all present would eat fish for free. Hahaha. Look comedy in Dominica.

This event is always part of the calendar of events for the independent season every year and is always held on the first Sunday after November 03rd. The reason being to allow those visitors who come in for the independence season to enjoy the different type of fresh fish recipes and dishes before heading back to their respective countries. Therefore the government should be blamed for the failure of this event as lots of time and money was spent in the planning of this event as is customary each year.
