George tours projects in Roseau South

Three communities south of the capital are the recipients of two improved and upgraded playing fields and the construction of a bridge and walkway.

On Thursday, MP for the Roseau South Constituency, Ambrose George, led the media on a field visit to Fortune, Kings-hill and Loubiere to observe ongoing projects.

Upon the visit to the Kingshill Playing field, several young men and a few women were seen laboring away in the mid-day sun.

George noted that the field has already been levelled and wall construction is in the early stages for what is expected to be an illuminated basketball court. The area will also be fenced and a stage erected to host different occasions.

“At the end of the project you will see a general improvement of the playing field,” George said, “I think it is a project much appreciated by the young people … it’s been highly spoken of by the young people of the community.”

This project is costing in the region of $250,000, according to George.

He also mentioned that the community is taking ownership of the project since, “one of the things that we are doing here, is that they get paid for four days of the week and the fifth day (Friday), is what we refer to as ‘sweat equity’ …. they give one day free.

“So they are putting in something into the project because we want them to appreciate the fact of ownership and to ensure that it is done to their satisfaction,” George stated.

The project is about a month old and phase one is expected to be completed by month end.

In Fortune, George explained there is a bridge construction project over the Fortune Ravine which will cost approximately $37,000.

In the past the ravine posed great difficulties for some 45 residents who had to cross it to get to their homes.

“They have been seeking some ease in terms of accessibility to the area, so we decided to undertake the project,” George said.

Steps and landings will also be constructed to the tune of $74,000.

A box concrete drain will also be built in the area costing about $34,000.

In Loubriere, a 420 feet retaining wall is under construction to separate the playing field from a nearby embankment. Upon completion the playing field will be transformed into a multi-purpose basketball court with a washroom facility.

“The project in itself is a big step forward,” said Project Manager, Kermit Robinson. “That playing field hosts a lot of young fellas playing football in the afternoon and I think it would be a very good project.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

George explaned the project will improve the playing field.

“And when I say improvements I mean lighting, levelling of the field, the construction of a perimeter wall on the eastern and southern sides of the field as well as the erection of a hard court to facilitate sports as far as basketball, netball is concerned,” he said.

George said such project is important for the community since it can be used for various events.

The entire project is costing EC$ 280,000 and 14 men are employed on it.

Shoddy job on that bridge. Why cant our projects look refined and classy unless they are done by foreigners? they could have finished the job of the surrounding bank and ground level upgrade. Apart from the bridge clean up the area a bit make it look welcoming. Non the less i suppose it serves its purpose.

Now you can see what condition our country would be in without an effective opposition. Opposition is healthy, it wakes up the ruling party from their slumber and makes them alert. and more efficient. Please, please, don’t let our country go to a one-party/one-man state, Don’t vote for Skerrit.

Well Well Well the people of various constituencies like Grandfond, Roseau South, Petit savanne etc can say well done Lennox,Tomson,Jashua and the others (UWP) for bringing progress and relief for them some of them dont support UWP but it is a fact that what is happening now is because of pressure from the opposition and team Dominica. Keep up the Good Work UWP.

I do hope he sees this comments ad realises how he has failed his constituency.. I am a labourite from Eggleston but i am having my doubts about this man. If i wasnt satisfied with the PM and his work in d/ca i would not vote Ambrose George. I commend Joshua Francis on what he is doing though. His efforts make Mr. George work.

No wonder it is said that DNO is pro-UWP. Do you mean to inform me that not one DLP supporter wrote or are they fed-up of the foolishness they read on especially this article, a foolishness which gets no one anywhere and which is not stimulating to as much as read. What type of people are they who have commented?
Is it any wonder that some of us are not able to access thumbs up and down? I think they are suppressed. Something went radically wrong. Does it take that long for a technician to repair this glitch? A new technician is required.

How can Ambrose be allowed to regain his manhood to the extent that he is even touring projects in the constituency? UWP you are demonstrating real weakness in your strategizing. All those incompetent Labour ministers who have been sleeping for four years are suddenly finding their voice.
Imagine Matthew Walter is allowed to speak and even insult people, this man should have been the subject of mass demonstrations demanding his resignation for the murder of the agricultural industry, now he is talking!
The same goes to Julius Timothy for his impotence in dealing with the Chicungunya, collin McIntyre for high unemployment, and the list goes on.
Strategize UWP! Educatinbg the masses on Q95 WILL NOT CUT IT!

As I always state, DNO should not post such types of comments. Nothing good to say, eh as usual? Your comment is unworthy, not educating and not inspiring. Comments as yours turn people off DNO.
I did not think some D/cans were so wicked. Do you have one bit of love in your heart? It appears to me to be filled with hatred.
Can you not appreciate the good which is being done and for the youths? Do you not have it in you to do so? I feel sorry for you. I hope you sleep well.

Like the others let me thank JOSHUA FRANCIS for finally bringing the much needed projects to Roseau South.

As many heads there are it is as many opinions you will get. Some people do not appreciate the good that others do. They will never change.
Ministers cannot opt out and create projects and also have money to construct those projects. It takes funds to do so. Consider how much money is paid into Inland Revenue – income tax. Have you considered where the money came from for this project and to pay those who are assisting to construct it? Prior to being critical think of this first. Consider how many millions of dollars it takes for all what D/cans want to be constructed and right away.
Does money grow on trees? They are fortunate that certain organizations assist D/ca. Otherwise, there would be no money for those projects. Be satisfied with what you have and what is presently being done. Most of all thank God.
