Irma costing LIAT millions

Hurricane Irma will cost LIAT millions of dollars in financial losses.

Chief executive officer Julie Reifer-Jones yesterday revealed that the regional airline’s current inability to operate commercial flights in and out of St Maarten and Tortola meant it was likely to lose about $4.4 million (EC$6 million) between now and the end of the year.

Reifer-Jones was unable to give an estimated figure for likely losses during the entire hurricane season. However, speaking during a media conference call with regional media yesterday, she said the overall financial fallout would be “quite substantial”.

Overall, the airline was forced to cancel 33 flights since during Hurricane Irma’s deadly passage, its planes could not fly north of Dominica.

LIAT so arrogant it believes their customers owe them a living. Honestly, they are looking down on their passengers and treat them like dirt. Let them perish, I don’t care.

So what about all those flights that were paid for but you cancelled?Do you know the time, mental anguish and financial loss you cost people when you leave them stranded? There is no refund no matter how much you paid, not a dime back. It almost seems that LIAT is just waiting to hear a storm out there so they can
rush to cancell fights. And don’t give me that safety story, and you can get a next flight within the year! Refund people before you say anything more toneh!

So what did smart airlines like Winair do? They moved their planes to safety in St. Vincent. Good riddance to LIAT, they cry too much and never say sorry, spoilt little brats.

LIAT, at a time as this it is to be expected that you will lose some money. Your airline is not the only one that will experience some loss. There are other airlines including the international ones; also some charter flights/airlines and the worldwide travel agencies.
Consider the loss to hotels and loss of employment. Stop thinking of what you could have gained under normal circumstances. It could have been worst.
You are not alone. Console yourself that you are not the only one which will experience monetary loss! Therefore do not lament! In time, with your airline cost, you will quickly recoup that loss.
You can claim some of it, if not all of it in your income tax return. Furthermore you should have some money invested to help defray this unpredictable loss. We do not think in the end you will lose.
I hope you are not stating that to indirectly inform and prepare prospective passengers that you will opt-up the fare, by taking it out on them.

Liat is too uncompassionate, not happy ,but know how it feels when your delay cause people to lose their connecting flight and you don’t compensate them.If I have a choice I am never boarding another Liat plane.

I can not believe that Liat is that dependent on these two fare segments. If Reifer-Jones keeps running the airline like she did Almond Resorts in Barbados the outcome will be dire. That is where the real problem lies with Liat. Poor management, that is not helped by cronyism.
