Karessah’s shoe found; calypsonian unsure what to do with it

Karessah is wondering what to do with the shoe
Karessah is wondering what to do with the shoe

The right side shoe, belonging to reigning three-time Calypso King Gregory “Karessah” Riviere which reportedly disappeared on the night of the Calypso semi-final competition last weekend, has been found.

However, he is struggling whether he should “use the shoe or even touch the shoe.”

“Should I wear the shoe? Should I not wear the shoe? Should I cut the shoe? Should I burn the shoe? Should I throw it in the sea?” he told DNO on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the shoe was brought in to the office of radio station Q-95 hours after Karessah pleaded for its return.

“Somebody called me and told me the shoe was found under the stage and it was brought to Q-95, but I haven’t been in touch with Q-95 as yet,” he told DNO. “I am hoping during the course of the day I will go across there.”

Fans of the calypsonian have had their take on the supposed disappearance of the shoe suggesting obeah or ‘coco makak’ might be involved.

“Now that the person who maliciously took my shoe over the weekend has decided to return it as a result of public pressure. I too have been getting advice from supporters family and friends as to where do I go from there,” Karessah said. “At the end of the day, the Karessah will make a decision as to what he does with the shoe that went mysteriously missing on the night of the semi-finals.”

He had described the missing shoe incident as “funny” and “unfortunate”.

Come on CLOWNARESSA. DOES This look like some publicity stunt for the finals ? I am certain it MIGHT form part of one of your songs ; either in part or in whole, verse or chorus. Dominicans are not stupid you know. Some even think that the SHOE was chosen because it is a political symbol of the ruling DLP. We may see issues about the shoe as a part of your presenation. We expect better.

While this is funny in deed. Some of the comments are pure rubbish. I can’t believe in this day and age ,people are so bent on believing all that evil stuff. Is that the level of thinking in our country. The shoe could have fell through the stage . Why are people so obsessed with such small thinking. As a nation , we cannot move foward if we are still so dense and naive. Pure rubbish. Inspect the stage . Maybe it’s time to build a new one.

It is fishy that one of his shoes disappeared.
You should be apprehensive about wearing it. My advice to you is to burn it.
If you decide to wear it, prior to that, bless it with Holy Water. :) If it has a bad omen, it will disappear. Mark my words.
I do think the best decision is not to wear it. Call it a day. Then make a calypso about it.

      Face the Facts
You really are a hundred face hypocrite.

You use God’s name when you are defending the political rubbish that is going on in Dominica, but here you are bringing in obeah into this scenario. This could be the act of someone playing a prank and nothing as sinister as you are suggesting!

Why don’t you ask him to make a calypso about the abject poverty in Dominica, the lack of decent health care, the lack of employment, the lack of due diligence, the lack of the most basic needs of the majority of Dominicans, the lack of transparency about Dominica’s finances etc?

Stop using the Lord’s name in vain. You cannot choose to adapt the Lord’s teachings to suit your political bias.

        January 31, 2016

You are out of place to call me hypocrite. Your views are your views. They do not represent mine. You are the hypocrite. So if you do not agree with me I am a hypocrite? Just who do you think you are? It shows a mark of your lack of mortal and spiritual intelligence.
You do not comprehend reality. Did you ask yourself what happened to his shoe and why he was not able to find it? There is a reason for it. You are the senseless one, a critic who appear not to have any brains and reasoning. You do not know more than I do.
Get this straight! I will not join some of you people in hating anyone. Those who do not hate are peaceful.
God is my witness. You are not my witness. You see one thing. I see another. I speak the truth of the matter.
I have noted that much has changed in Dominica from those days. Your problem is you do not appreciate what is good. You consistently look for what is not good. This is a sign of a critical mind, not a perfect one.

      • Face the Facts
        January 31, 2016

Dominica comprises of different people of different minds and different socio-economic background and status. All are not to be compared with one another. The reason why some are poor and others are not is not my business. Everyone should know why they are poor and why they are not. Much of it has absolutely nothing to do with the government. I have stated he did not make them, feed, clothe, house and school them. He is not responsible for them . Some of you lack this understanding. I could elaborate further. If you are intelligent you should know why.
Know that what affects you and some others do not affect me and some others. I do not make up stories and do not exaggerate. Furthermore some of us are more spiritually-minded than some others. You lack it.
I have reason why I stated to either bless the shoe with Holy Water to make the evil omen disappear or burn it. It is a godly advice. Do you realize that this may be an enlightenment that I received?

      • Face the Facts
        January 31, 2016

Get off your high horse. Perfect people (souls) are in Heaven. Your brains are not the same as mine. Allow people to comment just as you expect the same of them. OK! Are you on the side of God? If you were a holy person you would not criticize what I stated and denounce it. Therefore, speak for yourself.
God is good. I could write a book and also about what you stated and much more. It will not be a negative one but the truth, the crux of the matter.
Some of you are one-minded and narrow-minded. Learn from others and broaden your mind, mortally and spiritually. One day you will find out who is right and who is wrong. I bet you will not be the right one.
When some people die they will be highly disappointed that their views and advice were unworthy and were as much as not worth taken into consideration. You do not comprehend godly, lofty matters. So get off my back!
If you have money, be generous and help the poor/unemployed. It will please God most.

“However, he is struggling whether he should “use the shoe or even touch the shoe.”

The Dominica suppositious mentally is at work, his mind is pulsating because of the fear of obeah dominating his mind: Oh boy; somebody had his old shoe, and put obeah in it, so if he touches it the voodoo will take effect on him, if he burn it he fear he will die oui!

    Hahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahhaha!

That old oversize dirty looking shoe should long be in the garbage, that belong to a rubbish dump anyway! So what’s the big deal? Maybe the person who played the joke simply wanted to get his attention reminding him that is time for him to stop walking in that piece of old trash nuh!

Garson leave the shoe alone and do your thing on stage. Psychologically you need to be careful that the whole thought of the ‘obeah” nonsense don’t negatively affect your performance. While I believe wearing the shoes would have no impact on your health (clean it with jaze and then soak it sea water first), it is better safe than sorry for just burn both pairs of shoes for your own sanity. January 28, 2016

Karessah this one sounds very funny and I agree with some fans that obeah or ‘coco makak’ might be involved. Since you don’t seem to know what to do, here is my humble advise:

First, I hope you have a personal relationship with your God.
Secondly, If yes, then apply the blood of Jesus all over it and break every work of darkness that may have been placed on the shoe.
Thirdly, Don’t yield to the temptation of fighting obia with obia, but rather, keep your faith in the power blood of Christ which is more powerful than any work of darkness!
Forthly, as a demonstration of your faith in His Blood, use that same shoe on the night of the show just to let satan know you faith is in his blood.

By the way, I am not any of those so-called Spiritual advisors that keep misleading skerit

  I have a strong conviction that this is a build-up to “Karessah’s” second song which may be titled “Gimme back my (Right) shoe (bring my shoe back)”. I have a feeling he will get the shoe back – it may be delivered to him on stage while performing in the finals.
This may be “Karessah’s” social commentary on what he thinks is the perceived loss of “Right -wing Democracy- the Right Shoe)” and that he is left with only “the Left leaning socio-political order – (the Left shoe)”.
If that is the case, it is an interesting build-up to the finals. However, if the shoe was actually stolen then this is no laughing matter.

I believe it is Social commentary set on a platform of melodramatics, suspense and expectation. A technique straight from the curriculum of “Dramatic and Performing Arts” of most Performing Arts Academies. I know this technique because my son had to use it last week in his auditions in New York.

That would have been a great finish to a second song. Similar to what He did with Ian Douglas on stage in ” Dogs on the Track” . That stunt guaranteed Caressa the crown then. I think the impact might be reduced because the shoe has surfaced.
