King Karessah wants his shoe back

Karessah claimed the shoe disappeared while he was performing on stage

It’s not very often a calypsonian shoe go missing at a calypso competition in Dominica but strangely reigning three-time Calypso King, Gregory “Karessah” Riviere said his right shoe disappeared on Saturday, January 23, the night of semi-finals.

He is now demanding that the shoe is returned to him.

“All I am requesting is that the person who took my shoe, please bring back my shoe because I need my shoe” he pleaded during an interview with Dominica News Online. “That is my shoe I supposed to perform with.”

He explained what happened the night the shoe supposedly vanished.

“Saturday night was the semi-finals and they asked me to perform as a guest artiste, so I basically wanted to test the second song and get a vibe from the people…,” he explained. “I was on stage performing. Normally I would have my performance shoes that I don’t walk in the crowd with. So I had that shoe on my feet and the shoes I came to the park with I left it in my bag, with my with my clothes, my jacket…”

Karessah said following his performance, he went backstage to pick up the bag with his clothing and went straight to his vehicle.

“The following morning I was clearing up, packing up everything and noticed that my right side shoe was missing,” he remarked. “I know that would have been the only time that shoes came out of the bag was while I was on stage because when I came back I went straight to the vehicle.”

He described the missing shoe incident as ‘funny’ and ‘unfortunate,’ adding he also was planning to wear the shoe for his graduation.

But all searches for the missing shoe have turned up empty handed.

“I turn the vehicle upside down, no shoe…” he stated.

Karessah claimed the shoe disappeared while he was performing on stage. Being the political freak I am and not fully awake i had a different take reading this post. I had not even read the comments LMAO!
I thought it was a calypso about the original DLP likewise the Neo-DLP’s Logo 4 want of a better word.
Seeing I have written many a song for carnival only to trash em year after year I pen this in my head.
The Neo -DLP who has been doing it WRONG since Pierro passed likewise his predecessor. Both were LEFT. My take was the calypso I thought i was reading about in the aforemention/post was that Gregory contrary to the natural nature of things(since U are a Ahfouahwee you UWP)
Thought he was Original Labour and was clear as to what happened since the Neos took power thru the hybrid arrangement. So Greg was saying the Neos don’t have the left shoe they looking 4 de RIGHT shoe and maybe he Gregory has it so they stole it. The calypso would have been Skerrit looking 4 de…

Was it a red shoe or a blue shoe?
Is that what has happened in Dominica….someone stole one shoe? Maybe that’s why the govt can’t perform with one one.

   I have a strong conviction that this is a build-up to “Karessah’s” second song which may be titled “Gimme back my (Right) shoe (bring my shoe back)”. I have a feeling he will get the shoe back – it may be delivered to him on stage while performing in the finals.
This may be “Karessah’s” social commentary on what he thinks is the perceived loss of “Right -wing Democracy- the Right Shoe)” and that he is left with only “the Left leaning socio-political order – (the Left shoe)”.
If that is the case, it is an interesting build-up to the finals. However, if the shoe was actually stolen then this is no laughing matter.

I believe it is Social commentary set on a platform of melodramatics, suspense and expectation. A technique straight from the curriculum of “Dramatic and Performing Arts” of most Performing Arts Academies. I know this technique because my son had to use it last week in his auditions in New York.

Do not denounce it. Dominica is not devoid of jealous and wicked people.
Why would his shoe disappear and that he was unable to find it? It did not take feet and disappear. Someone did that. This person has an ulterior motive.

    ////

One thing I know Carissa is writing his own songs, and do not need anyone to compose it, he has stage personality, a good entertainer, and he and Hunter are one of my favourite calypsonians, not talking about witty, so, please do not think of anything evil focus on God, and on a personal note, I do not want Dice to win again, he is too sure of himself, and a little too arrogant, please give another man a chance, especially one who composes his own songs.

I don’ t blame Karessah of his concern about his right shoe, why not the left whoever take it took it for a reason. I think about it maybe is some seeking for a crown that take your shoe according to a song I heard a few years ago there is voodoo in the calpyso.

The person who stole the shoe knows why he/she stole it. It is not for something good.
In future, ensure that your personal belongings are not left on stage. These days some people cannot be trusted. They should have been in a cupboard, under lock and key and hold the key to the cupboard.
Imagine playing a trick on him, The Carnival Association.Calypso should make note of it.
Shame on the culprit who stole your shoe. Thou shalt not steal, whether it is a prank or not.
It is said, “Every disappointment is a blessing.” Here is an excellent opportunity which you should not miss. Compose a relevant song on the culprit who stole your shoe. Dominica has many criminals/thieves, those who have no respect for others and their property. Your day is coming.
I hope your shoe is returned.

“The person who stole the shoe knows why he/she stole it. It is not for something good.”( Facts Kid On Block, & Other names).

To all the names quoted, how do you know that some person, or persons stole an old shoe. If someone had the opportunity to steal a pare of shoe, why would leave one side, and steal the other?

Maybe you are the only person walking around with a shoe on one foot whiles the other drags on the pavement! Cant you see that is nothing more than a ploy this guy has used simply to solicit some publicity, and notice from the public?

If someone wish to steal a shoe, they might not chose an old raggedy plastic shoe with a rubber sole. You need to stop; you are always thinking wrong, and always on the wrong side of the equation! All that guy is trying to do is make belief he is so popular, that somebody want his shoe for some kind of souvenir or as you believe to work obeah on him: I suspect he is responsible for the disappearance of that old piece of trash!

      • Face the Facts
        January 29, 2016

Do you know what has occurred and continue to occur in Dominica? If they get your clothes they will steal it and perform an evil act.
You are a great pretender. As the song: “Oh yes, I’m a great pretender.”
You who are always critical never heard of those various stories or do you pretend not to know? If so, you missed out on hearing a lot of that. They are not fictitious but real.
Every town and village in Dominica are susceptible to it. I am certain there is some of that in Wesley. Inquire about it.
Tonight, while at the grocery store, I overhead one West Indian woman say to another, “I do not eat at people’s home.” This means, strangers’ home. They were in the same aisle but were walking away. If I were in their presence I would inform them, “The same as I.” It never was my custom when I resided in my land of birth..

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        January 29, 2016

I can’t refer to you by name anymore since I discovered that you have multiple personality’s, every mane you used express a different personality; nevertheless, I’ll say this, I do not know how you can pretend to be knowledgeable of the word of God, yet you believe in obeah, and such nonsense!

Haven’t you notice all of the people who believe in obeah in Dominica, are the poorest in the nation? Even those who takes money from the ignorant illiterates who put their trust in Stan’s power are themselves poor like unfertile dirt!

Answer this: if these obeah men, and women can work obeah for people to even get rich, and kill someone for them how come they cannot work obeah for themselves to get rich. Here this when I was about seventeen years old one of my older sisters husbaand waked me upside my head; knocked me out cold okay. No need to say the matter went to the high court in Roseau. The day of the case I was at a place eating lunch, they say the people at who’s house I was…

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        January 29, 2016

While I was in one room eating, I saw my sister, and her husband walked in and went into a room with the obeah man, apparently they went pay him to work Obeah on me so that he can win the case. The obeah man gave him some crap and told him sprinkle it on himself and he will win the case.

We went back to court, by the time it was all over, when they were about to sentence him to jail my sister collapsed in the court, she was pregnant, I felt sorry for them both them, I cried and beg the court not to send him to jail, the court obliged!

So, so much for you stupid belief in obeah!

I recall that a paro was on stage while the results were being called. There is a possibility that the paro disposed of the shoe or Karresah may have lost it on his way to his car. After all, he did not miss it prior to exiting backstage. What if a calypsonian took it in error and is just afraid to return it for fear of being wrongly accused of doing something sinister? I am just saying – let’s keep an open mind. Nonetheless, I hope Karessah finds his shoe.
