The Kiwanis Club of Roseau is gearing up for its 22nd Annual High Schools Debate Competition.
According to a release from the club, all, but one high school, have confirmed their participation in the 2014 debate season.
The release states that in order to “kick start the debates, and to continue to elevate the level of intellectual argument and discourse among young people, the club will be hosting a Debaters’ Workshop on Wednesday December 11th, from 9-1 am at the UWI Open Campus.”
Schools will be represented by four prospective debaters as well as a teacher. Students will have sessions on How to Debate, will engage in practice debates, as well as get to interact with each other in the spirit of friendly competition.
The Debates are scheduled for January 15 – Round 1; February 12 – Round 2; March 12 – the semi finals. The final will be held on April 16.
The release ends by stating, “Kiwanis of Roseau is proud to continue its tradition of engaging the youth in Dominica in topical yet structured discussion, and thanks the many business houses who have come on board every year to assist in this endeavor.”
I wish to applaud the Kiwanis for holding the debater workshop. Don’t forget to invite Skeritt, he needs the training badly. As you know, he has been afraid to hold a debate with Mr. Edison James. You should insist that he debates Mr. Lennox Linton.
