Landslide in Dubique

Work crew clearing the landslide

Motorist using the Dubique main road are asked to proceed with extreme caution because of a landslide that occurred this morning at around 6:00.

The road is presently blocked but work is underway to have it cleared.

It is reported that many people are stranded and cannot get to work as this is the only roadway linking Dubique and nearby areas to Roseau.

This road needs serious rehabilitation including a retaining wall. More excavation is needed on the Eastern End.

What happen,u all crying?Don’t u all see that this area is not of interest to the government except for when they need your vote of which no effort has to be made for as it’s always in their pocket.People of that constituency have never voted for anyone who’s capable of bringing development to that area,i am from this area. They left a man like Sam Raphael who has borught what is called true development to vote for a man who do not have a clue as to what development is all about. They voted for a man who needed a job rather than man who creats jobs. The masses of the people there are naive and in lives in total ignorance.

My prayers go out to my brothers and sisters from Dubique. As I always say, we are kubulians. When we’re confronted adversity, we don’t sit on our hands. We work together and survive.

Now “REASONING”, you are the type of person that if you are on fire, no one would spit on you. Before you call others ignorant, please take a look at you spelling, sentence structure, and subject-verb agreement. Your last sentence shows the depth of your intelligence.

I wanted to give you a good lashing, but I can tell that you are one of the weak Kubulians; and you would not be able to handle it. Go sit in the corner and face the wall.

Stop hating and recognise what this is – an act of nature. Everything has its time. I believe that area will get a seawall just as the people of Pointe Michel to Scotts Head finally got one after 200 years. Do not hit on the government for everything. They do not control acts of nature.

Those of you who are familiar with the area should know that a new road can and should be built way above the Dubique mountain all the way to the Stowe estate. Even though a sea wall is built, there will always be landslide due to the topography of the area.

    1) Government by back late and restrict people living in certain disaster prone areas

    2) Slopes are too steep- try cutting back slopes along roadway

correction: should be “buy back land” NOT “by back late”

A push back of the sea enhanced by a sea wall in that short span of road would bring good return-on-investment to compliment all the money spent to build the T-Savanne/Delices road bypass.

This bottleneck puts all the great effort made at shortening travel from the East to Roseau etc via T-Savanne to shame. Gov’t neds to give it some priority now.

we need other alternatives. the villagers and those in nearby villages are suffering from this for too long now. parl rep needs to look into that.

Dominica being mountainous will always have landslides and rolling rocks. Thank God that no one was injured or killed. Pray for his protection.
Some years ago someone or some people were buried alive under a landslide.
The government will have to find a way, if it is possible, to roll back the sea and build a retaining wall. I visualize that this could be difficult to do.
It is disappointing to wake up and find that there is a landslide and that the road is impassable. I hope that the road will be restored to normal soon. Take heart and have patience. It could have been worst.
    God bless!

“It is reported that many people are stranded and cannot get to work as this is the only roadway linking Dubique and nearby areas to Roseau.”

The report is wrong there is the Petite Savanne to Delice link road which can take you to Roseau.

The problem is it is a very very long journey and may not worth the effort if you consider the price of petrol and your wear and tear..

It is certainly reassuring to see that whenever and wherever the earth gets so saturated and comes down in such devastating forms, there are able, ready and willing persons who will immediately go to work right underneath that same area to work to ensure that life is brought back to some form of namarlity. Thank God for that.
