LIAT implements new security measures for passengers to US and territories

A LIAT aircraft

As of 27 March 2018, passengers using LIAT flights to the USA and its territories will experience added security measures. These measures are in line with updated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations.

Passengers traveling to the US territory of Puerto Rico (and St. Thomas as of July 1st) on LIAT will encounter new and enhanced security measures for checked bags, hand luggage and personal electronic devices (PEDs) such as laptops, iPads, and tablets at check-in and boarding gate. A short security interview is also a part of the new security measures.

These new security measures affect all airlines operating direct commercial services to the USA and its territories.

LIAT, therefore, advises all passengers traveling to the USA and its territories to arrive at the airport two hours prior to departure to ensure they have sufficient time to satisfy all other airport and airline formalities.

Thses new security measures have been enforced in the US as well. I was surprised when traveling from NY to Colorado in January I was pulled out of the line at the gate and had my carryon luggage and iPad checked . The exact checks identifies in this post is exactly what I went through. It is the new TSA regulations so the government and airport officials are SIMPLY IMPLEMENTING NEW TRAVEL POLICIES. Know your facts before you complain and blame the wrong people.

All of this goes to show that we are still a long way off from achieving our sustainability goals. We need to perhaps revisit our development agenda. We need to make sustainability our guiding principle. We need to start now.

These necessary precautionary steps are being taken to provide added safety for travelers. This has absolutely nothing to do with the prime minister, Mr. Skerrit. As a frequent traveler myself I welcome such implementations. I am not pro Liat, butI think this is a good proactive move on their part.

you guys might aswell start encrypting your devices, they’re going to be searching your devices in the name of security, don’t be surprised if they add something extra when they’re done searching….

This whole thing is not about security. It is about invading the privacy of individuals and persecution. Those setting forth these regulations fly in private jets devoid of security measures. Remember that. No one is invading their computers or searching their person. It is the double standard. Rich vs. poor.

they will. went to tortola once and this guy and his supervisor demanded my phone be unlocked and turned over. the guy didnt spend 10 seconds “searching” it before he handed it back to me. later down in my vacation the phone calls had a strange echo. I destroyed the device just in case. it was too fishy.

Just proof that the US CANNOT trust Dominica and the Caribbean anymore because of those criminals that have our passports. This is just a silent missile or sanction aimed at Dominica but to make us feel it is not just for us they made it sound good.

We need a government that stands up against this. I don’t care if they threaten to ban travel between d.a and their territories or even sanctions. Skerrit must go

Can someone explain to me why these press releases always seem to be made public the day of or the day after something is supposed to take effect?

Why don’t these people give the public time to plan?
