In an effort to give back to the people of Dominica, LIME Dominica has donated a clothes dryer to CHANCES, a place for children at risk in order to make work easier at that institution.

Early this year the company launched its ‘LIME’s Lend a Helping Hand Project’ through which a contribution from every new LIME transaction was committed to a worthy cause.

Managing Director of CHANCES, Ava Roach, who was speaking at a presentation ceremony held at Fort Young Hotel on Friday, said the donation of the dryer will be beneficial for those who are being taken care of at the institution.

She also received a handset from LIME.

“There are times when the clothes need to be heated for health reasons and we are in the hurricane season…so we know it is something that is really needed,” she said.

She complimented LIME for putting the island’s children and young people first.

“You have identified CHANCES as the first recipient, so in doing so you have put children and young persons first,” she said. “Let us continue to keep our children and our young persons first always. At CHANCES, children’s home for the abused child, the neglected child, cheated and emotionally scarred, we cater for the needs of children and young persons in need of care and protection.”

She revealed that at presently there are 19 at the home.

“We have had as high as 26 and we have a capacity for 30 children,” she said. “If we have to take 35 we will make space for 35. We will not want a child to be not cared for, or being at risk or being abused.”

She urged Dominicans to play their part in supporting the children and young people.

“We cannot let government do it alone. We are all Dominicans and we have to take care of our children,” Roach urged.

Meantime LIME General Manager, Jeffrey Baptiste stated that the company has committed to transforming the lives of the Dominican people through its contributions in “culture, sports, in health and in education.”

“But when we speak to transforming lives we certainly feel that we cannot do it alone. We need to channel that energy and channel that commitment through institutions and organizations who stand at the same place with LIME…” he stated.

Minister for Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs, Catherine Daniel, who attended the ceremony, said she felt deeply moved by LIME’s contribution to the well-being of the less fortunate on the island.

“As a nation we must make it our responsibility to care for the less fortunate children and young persons in our society who are the future leaders of our nation,” she remarked. “Your tangible contribution clearly expresses your company’s caring nature and on behalf of the government and CHANCES I say thank you.”

CHANCES opened its doors in Jimmit on April 13th 2011.

Since its opening over 120 children and young persons have benefited from the services offered by the institution.
