Attorney Glenworth Emanuel is expressing surprise that his name is being listed in the just-released Panama Papers.
He believes that someone is up to some mischief.
In the Panama Papers, Emanuel’s name was listed twice.
One listing shows he is a shareholder in Stone and Pearl Consulting Corp with jurisdiction in Samoa and with a local address of 16 Croton Crescent, St Aroment, Roseau, Dominica.
That same listing shows he is a shareholder in Dark Ltd, with jurisdiction in the British Virgin Islands. It also showed that he is a shareholder in Greenfield Trading Ltd. with jurisdiction in Samoa.
In a separate listing, the papers show Emanuel is a shareholder in Perdrix Enterprises Ltd with jurisdiction in the British Virgin Islands. That listing also has the same 16 Croton Crescent, St Aroment, Roseau, Dominica address.
But speaking on Q95’s the Hot Seat on Thursday morning, Emanuel said he has absolutely no idea how and why his name ended up on such list.
“Somebody was doing mischief,” he said. “Somebody put my name on there through mischief.”
When asked by host Matt Peltier if he remembers his law office doing any investments in Panama, Emanuel said no, saying it could be linked to a former colleague.
“I don’t know about that,” he insisted. “Somebody put my name on it for some reason, I don’t know.”
Emanuel said as more details on the matter come out, more questions can be posed to him.
“Ask me, find out exactly what is going on, what is happening…” he said. “Find out as much as you can, let us nail the beast, let us see what this whole thing is all about. I am with you on that, I want to find out myself. I am surprised my name is on anything like that…”
The Panama Papers is the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them. The 11-million documents were leaked from a Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca. They show how the company has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax and show the myriad ways in which the rich can exploit secretive offshore tax regimes. They have been connected to a staggering number of high-profile names from around the globe with many in Dominica.
There is clearly mischief abounding as why would any sensible attorney have his name appear as a shareholder of a shell company??? The whole idea of using shell companies is that the true owners are invisible. They are hidden behind ‘nominees’ at director and shareholder level. There is no point whatsoever in owning a shell company if you are publicly listed as a shareholder – no point whatsoever as its purpose is totally defeated.
Therefore whoever linked GON’s name with these companies is second-rate scammer backed by second-rate political criminals and their lackeys.

I am happy, Mr Emanuel agreed to clear his name in terms of the Panama Papers. Despite all we have since 9th May when the papers were officially released, we were surprised to hear Simeon on the talk show this morning at 9.33 am telling his listeners that all transactions reported on the Panama Papers were authentic. In fact, the word he used was legit. It would appear, he wasn’t aware of the statement made by the mother of a gentlemen, who she said was unemployed, broke and she couldn’t understand how he would have million of dollars saved at a bank in Panama. We also heard of a gentlemen, Christopher, whose name appeared on the Panama Papers, only to find out he was deceased. There is also the case of a gentleman who worked at the Roseau Town Council, who is also deceased. Simeon should question Skeritt as to what he knows about #3 Beau Bois, this address in on the Panama Papers and the person who resides at that same address is his first child mama.

Mrs. Saunders, maybe you have not been listening thus your statement above so let me enlighten you a bit if I may. Several people whose names were mentioned in the Panama papers have called in to express their disbelief and concerns with regards to how their names and/or addresses were used in this offshore banking scheme without their prior knowledge. Although this does not exempt them or anyone else from scrutiny, it represents serious evidence of banking fraud and criminal use of other people’s identity. This goes to show that if ANYONE feels that his/her name was mentioned in the Panama papers by fraud or by error he/she has a right to clear his or her name and a duty to report this obvious illegal activity to the proper authorities.

I take it that the lesson here is that not everything in the media or the internet or even international reports is fool proof and air tight, so perhaps in spite of the name calling which I sometime receive here, I have been right in my personal approach to wait until claims and statements and allegations and accusations are established without a doubt before I condemn people?

Since it’s release, the Panama Papers has been creating quite a stir within the parliaments and other high Offices of numerous Countries as it reveals an unprecedented level of mismanagement, theft, corruption and other illegalities never seen before in a single public release. Dominica’s involvement proves, however, to take on even greater significance in this scandal given it’s size and population. The Commonwealth of Dominica’s entries in the Panama papers gives evidence of a massive financial scheme aimed at hiding a significant portion of the Country’s wealth. The fact that individuals whose names appear on the list have no idea about these offshore accounts presents an alarming cause for concern as this is an obvious case of banking fraud. If our government are serious about transparency and good governance it would be in their interest for this case to proceed. If all is above board why not use this help clear their slate?
I have been hearing arguments that the companies are perfectly legal and that many citizens globally use this means to avoid taxes. But these citizens may have had a source of these millions. Does Dominica have a means or source for all these monies? The amounts will be revealed eventually. It is highly possible that the proceeds of the sales of passports may have been deposited if in not all, but most of these accounts. This current administration has never disclosed their source of campaign financing. If one dollar used in election campaign came from passport money that may very well equate to treason, fleecing the state from monies that should have been deposited in the treasury for use for the people of Dominica. I honestly do not expect the judicial system here to make any moves to investigate anything here. 1. Fueled by greed by a few elite they will remain tight lip, and take no action they are happy with their benefits. 2. The poor and needy will gladly accept anything.

I was thinking the same. The offshore accounts were created to mask the real owners of the money for all kinds of reasons. Celebrities do it for security reasons and so too can private citizens. Am i suppose to believe that grown people working in law firms sign documents and did not know what they were signing? UWP people always have some lame ass excuse. All that is pure garbage. Dear Sweet Pea, allow me to break it down for you as it is quite easy to understand how FRAUD can be committed within a law firm! Law Firms in particular deals with a vast amounts of documents which require the signature of individuals and often times a copy of a person’s identification such as in cases of power of attorney and the like. If someone is interested in committing fraud he/she can easily take a page from a completely legitimate document (usually the last page containing the signature and ID) and attach the same to another document. This fraudulent practice is unfortunately quite common in cases of identity theft and the fleecing of people’s personal bank account. It is common for criminals to create false documents such as these to gain access to the accounts of recently deceased and elderly people who often utilize the services of Lawyers or other third parties to access their accounts. In this case the fraudulent document may have been used to OPEN an account.
