I would like to know how the selection process was conducted in determining who makes the list.
Why Mrs. Gertrude Roberts is not recognized for her exceptional service as an educator?
Mrs. Roberts taught Peter St Jean at Laplaine School, and he should be the first to acknowledge her in such an occasion.
I hope this list not tabulated based on party affiliation.

Congratulations to all the retired Educators. My opinion is that I hope retirees from other villages are being recognized in the future and that this is a yearly event.

I would have loved to see Ma John on there. She was one of the best as well. This lady had bursaries and scholarships coming from her class at St Martin primary- not just any class mind you. This is the class where they were told the children were too slow. You will always be in my heart Ms. John.

    • April 21, 2012

That is so true. Help us to locate her. I would like her on the list too.

Sure, just reply with an email or contact phone number and I can have her get in touch with you.

I do not understand what is going on. Ms. John was on the DATA for over 15 years; she was also on the Caribbean Status of Women’s Committee, worked with the Social Center, with Rosie Brown in women’s bureau, Ms. Giddens and others I can’t even remember at this time. Oh by the way she gave lessons to less fortunate children for free and I believe her last position was assistant principal at the Goodwill primary school. I had worked with her personally on some projects and I know she made extra efforts to improve the education system in Dominica. Isn’t the Ministry of Education aware of those happenings. I wonder who are the ones doing the selection. Not that the others aren’t deserving but individuals need to be given a flower while they are alive for unselfish service. It is ashamed that she wasn’t on that list.

We must change the award system;give them cash instead, they have spent their lives taking from their empty purse to buy manila papers etc.even organizing “belle-marche'”to buy paints to paint S-C-H-O-O-L buildings, yet they are the most under-paid state workers.Retirees, you will never be forgotten by the public,we shall always call you “Sir and Miss”.
