N.Y.C. police malign West Indian paradegoers on Facebook

They called people “animals” and “savages.” One comment said, “Drop a bomb and wipe them all out.”

Hearing New York police officers speak publicly but candidly about one another and the people they police is rare indeed, especially with their names attached. But for a few days in September, a raw and rude conversation among officers was on Facebook for the world to see — until it vanished for unknown reasons.

It offered a fly-on-the-wall view of officers displaying roiling emotions often hidden from the public, a copy of the posting obtained by The New York Times shows. Some of the remarks appeared to have broken Police Department rules barring officers from “discourteous or disrespectful remarks” about race or ethnicity.

For all you diasporians who are ‘dying for the so-called American dream’if this sin’t a clear indication that the people do not want you all in their country, i don’t know what is. But, then again, I guess it’s anything for the dollar (the good ole uncle sam). Each to his own. I prefer gwayez in DA papa. At least I feel like I belong and own here everyday I awake. Notwithstanding the daily issues and occasional difficulties, there is nothing that beats being home!!!

This is not their country! They came on a boat/airplane like all of us. The true ROOT of this problem is the caucasian’s belief that all they set their eyes on belongs to them. America has and will always be a country of Immigrants.

This culture of racism is prevalent in all law enforcement bureaus and the military. I am in a branch of the military where there are few Black individuals as compared to the Caucasian and sometimes you hear stuff that makes you sick. You report it up the Chain because there is definitely policy to deter that behavior.

Nonetheless the most of these NYPD idiots don’t reside in minority neighborhoods but they stay in long island and Westchester. No one complains when they get drunk of St Patricks day and act like idiots.!

America belongs first to the Native Indians. So tell them hold their R’ass

IT WAS NOT IN GOOD TASTE WHAT THE OFFICERS SAY. IT IS PURE RACISM. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE LABORDAY FESTIVAL HAS GET OUT OF HAND.
I USED TO ATTEND IT RELIGIOUSLY AND FEEL UPLIFTING AFTER MEETING UP WITH FRIENDS AND PEOPLE YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IN LONG TIME. ALSO SEEING ALL THE CARIBBEAN ISLAND REPRESENTING THEIR COUNTRY. HOWEVER,HONESTLY, I FEEL VERTY THREATEN TAKING PART NOW. THE FESTIVAL HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND. MANY PEOPLE COME PREPARED TO GET INTO CONFRONTATION WITH OTHERS. JUST LOOKING AT THE INCREASE CROWD ALONE CAN GET YOU SCARED. SOME OF THEIR FACES LOOK LIKE THEY ARE READY FOR FREDY. I REMEMBER SOMEONE TOLD ME THEIR WAS A SHOOTING ONE LABOURDAY AND THIS GUY AND HIS GIRLFRIEND START RUNNING FOR THEIR LIVES. UNFORTUNALTELY,THE GUY FELL DOWN WHILE RUNNING, UNKNOWING TO HIM HE WAS THE ONE THAT GOT SHOT. HE DID LOSE HIS LIFE. I UNDERSTAND EARLIER ON IN THE PARADE HE HAD BOUNCE INTO SOMEONE AND THE PERSON WHEN HOME AND CAME BACK AND SHOOT HIM. SOME CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE IN THE FESTIVAL. THE BARRIERS THAT THEY HAVE PUT UP TO KEEP THE PEOPLE SO CALLED SAFE IS A DEATH TRAP.

This is not a revelation but it’s about time people take notice! I have been on both sides many times. Myself {White american} and my Jamaican husband love the parade. If looks could kill we would both be dead. Yes rascism is alive and well not in USA alone all over the world. When in NYC at the West Indian Parade it’s not Dominicans behaving badly. I was wearing a DA t-shirt and a handfull of Dominicans came up to me. So happy that I knew thier home and dressed fine just having fun. For the most part it’s not the people in the parade breaking the law.Drug dealers gangsters and Wicked people from West India and every corner of the globe use this crowded opportunity to kill rivals and what not. And although they don’t have as much difficulty policeing the St. Patricks Day Parade. It is just as dangerous for myself and my very Jamaican husband to attend. And Americans are not well liked in the media around the world. But you would be pleasently surprised to know that the majority are good decent people and they detest the racist police as well. And I agree variety is the spice of life, we need each other and Dominica is a very small corner to remain in, at the same time I for one love the culture that West Indians bring to the USA and rest of the world. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could eliminate the evil and enjoy life. Where there is hope there is life Live and let live Peace

Every Labor Day over a million people congregate on Eastern parkway in Brooklyn, NY to celebrate their West Indian heritage. It’s unfortunate that a one or two “doo doo” heads with their dumb acts can tarnish the image of what is is a great parade. But again it’s white America together with it’s media trying to magnify any negative in a successful minority event.

It would be interesting to hear the views of these very same cops on the annual St.Patricks day celebrations in Hoboken, NJ.

      @ DA2BK

St. Patrick’s Day Parade or other such parades in N.Y. are not the same as the Caribbean-West Indian Carnival in N.Y. You should know that one cannot be compared to another.
The N.Y. Police exceeded their authority and should never had made derogatory statements about the ethnic parade which some of them enjoy. They should either be reprimanded or fired.
I am not standing up for them or taking sides. The problem is that they may have been frustrated and also disappointed at the turn of events such as gun-toting people who caused injuries and deaths at or near the parade.
According to what I heard on the News, a woman was struck and killed. If I recall last September she was standing in front of a building or her house and there may have been a few murders.
In the past I would visit N.Y. for the Labour Day Weekend and even jumped up in the parade. I was once told that there was the sound of gun shots in the band. That was the last time I ever went to N.Y. at that time and vowed if I ever do in the future I will not jump up in any band or probably never go near the bands for fear of being either injured or killed. I treasure my health and my life.
It is sad and disappointing that some non-caring people spoil it for others and give their very own a bad name.
Some of them are out to have fun while others are out for trouble and to create trouble. We must understand the situation why the Police made that statement, although not complimentary ones.

Nice catch DNO….I heard about that this morning, and was appalled….I don’t like NYC Cops anyway, too many racists….views and behavior.

There is an internal investigation going by the NYPD’S Internal Affairs Div.
I do believe these Cops should be severely disciplined and or fired.

After all, this is the West Indian Day Parade…Our Parade…The biggest such event every year in the U.S….And for these “Animals” to make such remarks is downright reprehensible, and should never be tolerated…

It is a Dominica thing,it is a West Indian thing, and it is a Caribbean thing….Also,it is a New Yorker’s thing as well….
People from the World over, attend this parade every year.

    ‘Savages”?….”Drop a bomb on they”?….
Very ,very disturbing to me…….There should be no place in our society for these kinds of remarks…..

    Thank you….

    PEACE!

We are our own worst enemy.

    When I read some of the comments on here by some who deride our fellow Dominicans, our fellow West Indians, as being rude and nasty, and so on and so forth, it becomes very clear to me that we really are our own worst enemy. I have lived long enough to know (i’m 46) that just about everything that occurs around us is generational; what’s raunchy today will be looked back as being tame in 20 years. That’s not to excuse some of the behavior that’s being exhibited at these carnivals, because some is clearly inappropriate, but folks, in order to keep a proper perspective, you must be somewhat a student of history. For example;

There was once a time when you couldn’t see a TV commercial with a woman wearing a bra – now it’s so common that we don’t even think of it. There was a time that women wore only full-body swimsuits – the thought of something like the g-string bikinis that now populate our beaches was not only unheard of but when introduced, protests and vitriol was visited upon women who wore them. Nowadays, if you see a woman in a full-body swimsuit you’re inclined to ask what’s wrong with her, maybe even speculate that her body is probably all marked up and that she may be hiding something.

Also, when we were growing up, the music we listened to is not what our parents would generally approve of; the music the kids of today listen to is not necessarily what we would approve of either, and what we like is probably antiquated, songs from an ancient era as far these kids are concerned.

My point is this – each generation brings their idea of excitement and fun to whatever they do, and we should respect that. We should make an effort to influence it in some way but by no means are we adults going to change the direction – because it is what’s IN at the moment. If an individual does not want to see half-naked women dancing in the parade, then you should do it yourself. I will guarantee you that your float will not attract much positive attention, just like a woman in full-body swimsuit will not attract positive attention on the beach – it’s not the IN thing, and the IN thing always rules.

    • 1979
      December 7, 2011

the IN thing now is to be gay…..what do u think about that?? with every progressive generation we lose a little more of our self worth. there will be a time when women will go back to wearing full body swimsuits, when they find the reason to cover up some, and retain a bit of mystery…..its all a cycle and we all come back to where it all started.

its funny to see so many people assist other races in bringing down their own kind.
anything black is obscene even to black people and other minorities. A black woman walking down the road naked is nasty and a white woman dressed the same way walking the same street is beautiful. This is how things work these days. Black people are notorious for joining the band wagon that disrespects other black people. This is how the race became enslaved. Black people selling out their own. Whats wrong with people grinding, girating * and dancing sexually on the street? Nothing. If you go to mardi gras the same new yorkers that complaining those housewives and good husband you can find them on bourbon st spreadint their legs, their kids collapsing drunk, if you go to a football tailgate you could see people having sex at the back of vans, getting drunk and beating non fans of their team to death. Every one including black people have a problem with a black body especially a black woman’s body but yet behind those critical glares is a zest for it! Finally, these same new york police grind with parade goers, they dance explicitly with the women on the routes, they drink on th ejob whilst they’re suppose to be preventing incidents from occuring. Please SMH… black people y’all need to stop being judases. There’s no right way to act except an authentic way that’s true to every individual. Live people alone, enjoy your life. Let god do the judging and you do the living!

        @ ?

I object to your comment. This is blasphemy. Please do not mention the Name of the Lord into this. Every Christian knows that He is not a black person. To the genuine practicing and broad-minded Christians, it does not matter to them whether he is white, jewish or black/negro.
The Second Commandment of God is: “Thou Shalt Not Take The Name of The Lord Thy God in Vain.”
This means to use it in futility. Therefore your statement is also uncalled for. You have sinned against your God and committed a grievous/mortal sin. When it comes to God, Our Lord, be careful of your words in the future.
Our Lord said: Matthew 13:33:37 – A tree and Its Fruits – …I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render an account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
This is no joke or fiction!

The West Indian Day Parade generates a tremendous amount of money for NYC, and for the Airlines as well..
Even the Politicians uses it as a platform for publicity and their rhetoric….You should see them in the Parade working the crowd and gladly shaking hands with every and anybody….What you chatting bout…

This thing is bigger than you and your shallow and baseless views, or I……Have you ever been to Toronto Mass, or London, or Rio?…It is how people revel. This is not a Black or White thing….it’s human behavior…..Please!.

You on the other hand seems very affected by it..so much as to call them animals….how dare you.
You cannot force your views upon anyone…
People have a choice to believe whatever they want to, or act in which ever way they want to, as long as it is within the conformities of the Law…and they are not hurting anyone, or violating anyone else’s Rights…

What’s it to you?….Are you being hurt by their behavior?…..Who are you to judge them, and or condem them….

You are coming across as someone who is lacking the mental capacity to understand who I wrote….someone who is mentaly challenged…a nut…are you?

I don’t need to watch or review any tapes of the Parade…I can tell you about it first hand …
If your perception of the Parade is based upon tapes that you have seen, then you are really shortchanging yourself…..you have to see it live…It is really something to behold….The whole Parade is not what you think…..You must be an eyewitness , in order to give a fair and accurate account.

Lastly, don’t go around using that word “slave” loosely.
I am a REBEL….which means that I am free. I am not bound by nothing or anyone…As a matter of fact, I fight daily, to defend the Rights and Freedom of people like you….I seek justice and equality for all….
        I will always be a REBEL….with a cause.

I pity you….for you seems to be a zealot… who twist truth to suit your own sick and disturbing agenda….and for however long that you continue down this shallow road, you will never know truths and freedom and peace.
And please, stop writing with all ” caps.” , it is not the correct way to write….doesn’t bode too well for you…if you know what I mean.

        All the best to you….

No surprise here. Frankly people are free to feel how they want and say what they want as long as they keep their itch to themselves. I don’t care much for them either and they would not really want to ask me my honest opinon of other races or NYPD officers so they can have this moment. They still have to work the parades like it or not.

On another note, when we don’t want people who are already tainted with ignorance to have an excuse to say things about us, we ought to behave above board. Some of the things that have gone on during these celebrations are downright embarassing and so if the people are already prejudiced being aroung negroes toss that hoodlum behaviour in and it’s a recipe for disaster.

BINGO! I as well make no effort to go to the parade, for a few reasons. However, I chose to comment because of your use of one word – “exceptional”, and the reason is this. If you’re somewhat aware of American rhetoric, you will come across a 2-word phrase that is broadly used by politicians, the media and individuals themselves to describe who they, 311 million Americans, think they are and where they position themselves in the world vis-a-vis the other 6.7 billion of us. The phrase is “American Exceptionalism”. This phrase is used to tell you and I, in no uncertain terms, that they’re better than everyone else and if you don’t like it, suck on it. Just think of that a minute.

1979 u are right. No civilized nation would allow their diplomatic passport to be sold like Dominicans. Sad but true!

You are an Idiot 1979. Your comments don’t fit anywhere to justify anything. If u read and understand what the article is talking about you will see thats racism in the speaking. They spoke about ethnic cleansing droipping a bomb when they are all gathered to get rid of the west Indian community.
