A photograph of Dominica’s rainforest has been featured on search engine Bing.
The Bing homepage features an image or video that changes daily.
Bing, from Microsoft, is the third most popular search engine on the internet after Google and Yahoo! Search.
According to Wikiepedia it was unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on May 28, 2009 at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego.
It went fully online on June 3, 2009, with a preview version released on June 1, 2009.
In order to battle the hugely popular Google, Microsoft decided to include photographs from around the world on Bing and boasts, “one the favorite features of Bing is the rich and interactive daily image that appears on the Bing homepage.”
The photograph from Dominica will appear only on Tuesday (today). Bing describes the photo as “Marigot forest, Dominica.”
Compared to Google, Bing’s share of the search engine market is relatively small, a mere 7.9 percent by 2011.
However, according to Wikipedia on July 29, 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo! announced a deal in which Bing would power Yahoo! Search.
All Yahoo! Search global customers and partners are expected to have made the transition by early 2012.
In October 2011, Bing announced that it was working on new back-end search infrastructure, with the goal of delivering faster and slightly more relevant search results for users. Known as “Tiger,” the new index-serving technology has being incorporated into Bing globally, since August 2011.
WOW VERY COOL!!!!!!!
We can still see this pic even today (April 4, 2010) just hit the “previous” button in the bottom right of the bing homepage. Took me right back to the pic
We are slowly climbing the ladder and people are getting to know us. Now all we need is better access into Dominica and we are set
wow i need to know where there is
I know this place very well. When I was a child I used to stare at it everytime I pass near it. I was quite fascinated with it, especially the color of the water. It is between Marigot and Bense, just accross from the Anse De Mai jetty….if the jetty is still there. There was a white block house on the other side of the road…not sure if it’s still there…good stuff
I am from Anse De Mai. And yes… that is a photo of the river where the bridge is in Anse De Mai. Good stuff.
i was looking for some kinda link to pull it up as a wall paper, but could find it,any ideas anyone
Found out where it is, Mangrove Bay Tours. Check out their Facebook page

Man this is great PR for Dominica. Such exposure to millions or people worldwide would cost us in the millions of dollars. I really hope the local hotels get a few phone calls after this exposure especially as we approach the low season.
Its true that Dominica may gather a bit of public attention from this event as well as many other film events. The most significant thing will be the tanghible benefits that Dominica itself will be able to extract from this shot. The DOMINICAN REPUBLIC aka santo domingo usually gets more benefits out of Dominica’s publicity than Dominica itself. A name change is way overdue.
Saw it too;.!
Does anyone know where exactly this picture is from? It says Marigot, but where in Marigot is this? Looks awesome…
It doesn’t say marigot. Any way it’s on the Indian River
this not marigot its indian river
It does in fact say Marigot in the description, and you’re both wrong about Indian river, it’s from Woodford Hill. Check the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/MangroveBay
I saw it this morning when I signed on and was like wow, this place is cool. I wonder if that couldn’t be in Dominica? Now at the end of the day I’m seeing on DNO that this is indeed in Da. This is amazing. Great exposure for Dominica. Kudos
ALL U know well what that bringing all that publicity!!!!….
bad publicity was still good publicity!!! Look at all these people that are interested in this exotic island now! lmao… ahben these two passengers let be aware that there was a Dominica lol lol HOW WONDERFUL! (nuff joke tho) lol
THAT’S awesome!!!!!! SOON 95% of the globe’s population people can differentiate between Dominica and Dominican Republic
omg i saw it too!
had to go to bing to this>>ohh my god this is for real yep DA things are getting better
ok ok dno did not read your entire response….funny you were joking …
nice pic
More exposure the better
The little negative exposure we get finally made some people study geography and realise Dominica is not Dominican Republic. At least this positive incentive will help promote Dominica and I really don’t see much of a drawback to it.
That’s great!! i just checked Bing..lol..Great publicity for DA..DA popular nowadays..
This is really good publicity for the island!!!!!!! I’m proud
How so? It does not even say Dominica anywhere.
