Dominicans from all around the island took their gloves off or in some cases, put them on, to participate in community projects as part of Community Day of Service on Tuesday.

The day is usually observed on the 4th of November, the day after Independence.

However it was moved to November 5 since Independence Day, November 3, fell on a Sunday this year.

Since Sunday is itself a holiday, the Independence Day holiday was observed on November 4.

While communities could engage in any project that they chose,  the Government provided assistance to urban and village councils and improvement committees to undertake specific projects.

See photos below of some activities on the island.

Photos are from the Kalinago Territory, Warner, Loubiere, Bath Estate, Salisbury, Morne Rachette and Petite Soufriere.

Well done. But they should not wait until this particular time of year to do this it should be done all year round.

November 4 is a day when Dominicans serve their communities through various projects. It therefore a “Day of Community Service,” not a “Community Day of Service.”

I love Community Day of Service. It’s brings me so much pride to come together with family, friends and neighbours to fix and clean up our community and then be able to smile at our work and think, yes! I did that! Perhaps the government should consider having more than one days for this type of self-service rather than have citizens wait for months or years to have a pot hole patched.

Well done to all who took part in community day. It shouldnt just be for one day. We should help out in our communities everyday, even to do a small deed. Keep up the good work!

Man that’s what makes us different from all the islands and nations of the World. Did not had a problem with the beautification of Dominica. But you see the project thing it is the best. Please Mister Prime Minister do not touch our community day of service again. I thank you. Congratulation to all who took part in the building of Dominica today.
