PHOTOS: Lone protester makes known her point of view

lone protesterSecurity was tight and the police were everywhere on Victoria Street.

Inside the parliament building former national security minister, Charles Savarin, was being sworn-in as Dominica’s eighth president.

But all that did not prevent one woman from making known her point of view on the matter.

She stood near the roundabout close to Fort Young Hotel silently but her message was clear.

With hand written posters and a copy of the Constitution of Dominica plastered on some kind of modified banner that was flung over her, she made it clear she was totally against what was going on in the parliament building.

Some of the posters quoted men such as Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King Jr., among others.

“Democracy please,” one of the posters said. “Do it for us kids.”

Lennox and his crew are looking to sacrifice Dominicans for their cause. They want police to shoot someone so they can run with it ,just like Timothy and Benjamin were sacrificed for the Freedom Party to grab power. That Lady was doing the right thing, peacefully. She was exercising her democratic right to disagree.

Unfortunately you hold the US on a pedistal. Many protests in the US are going uncovered by the media on purpose. The media is controlled by the corporate government. A million people may show up but you will never see it on the TV or hear about it in a newspaper unless you tune in to alternative media.

Clearly you have not been listening. No one said they were going to protest except this woman and she did. I applaud her and have great respect for her. Why is it that your shallow mind will only allow you to interpret the it will not stand as meaning we shall protest.

It will not stand will be manifested in a number of activities that will clearly indicate that it will not stand indeed. Then again, I would not insist on the it will not stand because this is all in God’s plan to boot this government out of office. Mark my words.

We are opposing Charlo for president on ethical grounds more than anything else. How could a head of state be viewed by most Dominicans as a trouble maker, divider, biased and inept? We could have done better than that. This head of state has demonized people, orchestrated the closure of a business affecting many Dominicans and the government has sought to reward bad behaviour with the highest office in the land and they expect that to stand? Be careful what you ask for.

    • Justice and Truth
      October 4, 2013

All of you who refer to this woman as Rosa Parks, do you really know the story of Rosa Parks? This is an insult to Rosa Parks.
Rosa Parks, a black US woman was not allowed to sit anywhere in the front and centre of the bus. As a black person she was forced to sit in a designated area for only blacks, at the back of the bus. One day she revolted against this racist ruling and refused to sit at the back…The rest is history.
You are foolish to compare this woman to Rosa Parks. I suggest you cease doing so for there is no comparison whatsoever.
Rosa Parks, as a black US woman was oppressed as other US blacks. Note your foolishness in mentioning her name.
Americans would not be pleased that you use Rosa Park’s name to describe this woman who was protesting against “Dominica’s President being sworn-in.”
Many blacks, no exception West Indians and others who reside in other parts of the Caribbean who know the story of Rosa Parks would also not be pleased.
Cease and desist using this lady, Rosa Parks’ name in your nonsense. You comment about what which you do not know of.
If you do not know her story, Google it to read and teach others about this genuinely brave woman who by her act of bravery blacks can sit anywhere in a public transportation and also eat in restaurants and use the washrooms. She is a renowned American black, a historical icon.

    October 2, 2013

A full scale protest would not have achieved anything significant other than potential blood shed and savarin would have still been installed. I for sure would have been ready for any confrontation had I been there and the only reason was because I had to work and attend to my son who just came from surgery. However, The words of discontent and disagreement have been echoed through the land, the region and the world by the opposition leaders, media personnel and majority of Dominicans.Hence people every where have gotten the message. Moreover, Mr. Savarin is not in the best of health and given his age, he is not going to last very long in this capacity.

    • Really!
      October 2, 2013

@ Richards, did you read what you Wrote? You said, ” I for sure would have been ready for any confrontation had I been there and the only reason is because I had to work……”

You also said ” the words of discontent and disagreement have been echoed through the region and the world by the opposition leaders, the media personnel and the majority of Dominicans..”. Do you really believe your own words. So therefore you feel justified that a need for confrontation is valid. Well Richard that is the same way people like you and Lennox Linton ( who supported the FreedomParty) and others in the UWP leadership felt and believed that the August 1979
demonstrations, confrontations, strikes and intimidation was justified. That is why people like Lennox Linton opposition Leader of UWP hailed President Charles Savarin as a HERO during that era. Charles Savarin did not help overthrow the DLP alone. He represented the Ciivil Service Union and the Dominica Freedom Party and was helped by other unions, the opposition supporters like Linton, Brian Alleyne and many more who now find Savarin is no good, that he is Bad and no longer a Hero. Is it because Charles is now a member of the ruling Dominica Labour Party?!!

Lets not be hypocrites. So therefore Lennox should not be aspiring to be the Prime Minister of Dominica because he too like Savain was part of the brigade who caused so much chaos in Dominica in 1979.

Another thing Mr. Richard you are a big coward. You are making excuses why you did not go out to demonstrate. Give me a break. For the of country you should have gone!

Also your reference to President Savarin about his health condition is a low blow!! Pure nasty on your part. Your son just came out of surgery he could have died but by the grace of God he came through. You with all your good health can fall down dead now ( I don’t wish that for you though) and Savarin could live to a healthy old age. Be careful with your tongue.

Savarin is not in the best of health and given his age, he is not going to last very long in the capacity.

      October 3, 2013

so you have a son to take care of talking about blood shed, and if it was not a surgery you would be ready to take on any confrontation!!!! and your child behind,eh si ou pas emeh zafaou say par mwen ou kay emeh. Thats why some of us cant be leaders because we do not love who we know much less for us to love who we dont know. c’mon.
