Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, said that he feels loved, valued and appreciated by his supporters after he received a massive welcome at the Canefield Airport on Tuesday evening.
The Prime Minister arrived in Dominica to much fanfare after he recently received an Honorary Doctorate from the Lovely Professional University in Punjab, India.
But he also took the opportunity to poke fun at Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton and those who have been critical of the award.
“I do not know why others are getting themselves so flustered over this award. If it has no value, why are they so bothered about it? You should not worry about worthless things,” he stated. “If you think that being recognized and honored by the number one university in the most populated country in the world, is not worthy of note, then stop letting it bother you.
He added, “But since I believe that it is of concern to our detractors in the United Workers Party, that I got an award and their leader got none, I shall speak to the Principal of the Dominica Grammar School tomorrow, and seek out an Honorary CXC Certificate for the Leader of the Opposition, Lennox Linton.”
On a more serious note, Skerrit said the experience was a moving one for him.
“But seriously, Brothers and Sisters, it was a very moving experience for me to stand, as leader of one of the smallest populated countries of the world, and be recognized and acknowledged by the intellectual leaders of the largest populated country in the world,” he noted. “I was amazed at how much they knew about Dominica. I was inspired by the high regard with which they hold the governance of this beautiful country.”
He added, “This evening I say to you, my fellow Dominicans, walk tall.Hold your heads high. This country is respected by many. This country is admired by many. This country is revered by many.”
He said although the award bears his name, it is in honor of all the people of Dominica.
“I don’t care what you call me tomorrow, call me anything you feel like,” he stated to loud applause. “But if I had to express my preference, I would ask you to call me, simply, ‘Skerrit.’ That’s who I am and that’s who the people of Dominica love. They love their PM.They love Skerrit. And I love you all.”
He told supporters that they should not lose sleep over ‘the grumbling of others.”
“I have told them already, they need to grow up,” he stated. “They make the tearing down of Dominica their favorite past time. I shall continue to make the development of this country, my primary focus and my principle endeavor. So this evening, my Brothers and Sisters, I wish to say how touched and humbled I am, by your warm embrace.”
He said despite “nasty, nasty, salacious articles” that is written about him and Dominica, “this country is respected far and wide.”
“People admire our resilience. They admire our warmth. They speak highly of our embrace of culture and the warmth that we radiate to visitors. They like Dominica under the Dominica Labour Party,” Skerrit said. “This is a beautiful country, my Brothers and Sisters. Lovely Professional University in Punjab, India recognized all this and honored your leader. I am touched and humbled by the gesture. I shall use the occasion to recommit myself to the task. I shall celebrate this achievement by working harder, in the service of Dominica and it’s wonderful people.”
The Prime Minister continued, “I want you to do the same, Ladies and Gentlemen. Believe in this country. Uphold its laws. Respect its institutions. We have a wonderful island to build. We have the next generation to mold. Let us use the occasion of this international recognition, to recommit ourselves to the cause of nation-building.”
Other high-ranking members of the Dominica Labour Party also addressed the rally.

On August 26, 2015, Dominica was attacked by Erika and doctor Skerrit was no where to be seen. Later we got to know he was on his personal business. Yet, when Mr. Skerrit finally landed in Dominica, he got a HEROS welcome, just to distract the truth from coming out.
Today, once again doctor Skerrit is out, doing his personal thing while his cabinet is on fire, and our young girls are the casualty of the plane crash. Again, as a form of cover up and distract the truth from coming out, his supporters who are all on board, throws a welcome party for their captain who seems to have abandoned his passengers on air Dominica, and jumped on another plane of safety.
Some university or college should conduct a national survey titled, “Why are Labourites so Stupid Despite the Wealth of Information Around Them”

I need to poke my fun too. If Mr. Linton is a nonentity, why go on a political platform in the middle of Roseau and mention his name over one thousand times in four hours in a political meeting. If Mr. Linton needs a CXC certificate why does Aaron write about him in a news paper every week none non stop for the last for three years. Don’t talk about old man Ducreay, Simeon, Macintime Douglas, the ninety two years old woman who resides in Kings Hill, Aaron and Tony. I have not heard one show on Kairi in the last three years, if Mr. Lennox Linton name is not mentioned. The Labor Party Supporters talk about Linton so much, that at times, they even forget to mention Skeritt’s name.

It must be “Lovely”. It certainly was not named without reason.
They love the English word, “Lovely”. There must be something good about it why this university was given that name.
I do not see why you have to be concerned about the name and unduly so. It is a name. Leave it at that.

You stated Lennox is a decent man. This is your views. It does not represent what some others think and as they see, hear and read about. They form their opinion based on this.
There are all types of people who are different with different opinion. Some people settle for much; others for little – mediocrity; others for nothing at all.
Some of us are not blind, deaf or sleeping. We have common sense and utilize it. We know the difference between right and wrong.
Linton has said and done much to debase the PM. He was disappointed that he did not win the election. He has shown his disdain for the PM and it is continuing. In any case, Linton’s words and the Court cases against him, tell who he is.
