Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has advised citizens to “let your conscience lead you in deciding who you believe is more capable of running the affairs of the country.”
At the signing of agreements for the creation of special loan facilities at the AID Bank for the agriculture and tourism sectors this morning, he spoke out against those who vote with personal motives, with no regard for the future of the country.
“There are people in this country who are prepared to destroy the future of Dominica, and vote in people who are not competent, who are not serious, who are not interested in the affairs of people and our country because they do not like me, or they do not like the Labour Party,” Skerrit remarked.
Additionally, the Prime Minister commented that those who criticize the government are incapable of withstanding criticism themselves.
“There are people who cannot stand the test of scrutiny, and they’re not even yet in government,” he said “They talk about accountability, transparency, good governance, but when questions are posed to them to ask for the facts, the documents, they get angry, they get violent, almost ready to be charged for battery. And, that’s the people we want to elect and call our government? I have no animosity towards anybody in this country.”
Coincidentally, on Monday, Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, walked out of an interview with the host of state-owned DBS Radio’s ‘Talking Point’, Kamala Jno. Baptiste-Aaron. The interview was scheduled to discuss the 2016/2017 National Budget.
Jno Baptiste-Aaron repeatedly insisted that the Opposition Leader substantiate his views on matters he stated, while Linton demanded that she stick to the script. He eventually accused Jno. Baptiste Aaron of being a “rabid political animal,” stating that she was attempting to “score one for the Roosevelt Skerrit administration.”

Dominica is a beautiful country.However when one travels worldwide and see the other countries out there ,I must pounder .why is our country so backward. There are no decent places to socialise at night.Roseau stinks, no parks for kids to run and play on swings,no nightclubs for adults,no theatres. So tell me with all the hotels that are on stream, where are the entertainment for the visitors in the evening?. And what about the middle class kids that are growing up ,where can they comfortably socialise with there friends of the same socio economic background? According to Skeritt, there are people who cannot stand the test of scrutiny and they’re not even yet in Government. They talk about accountability, transparency, good governance, but when questions are posed to them to ask for facts, the documents, they get angry, almost ready to be charged for battery. His comment appeared to be directed at Mr. Linton. Even though Mr. Linton was right and his Press Secretary was wrong. I hope he had the opportunity to listen to his budget presentation of 2012/2013, and come to the realization, his PS during her interview with Mr. Linton made a fool of him and his office. To put it bluntly, she lied to Dominicans when she said, the money his administration had deposited in the Aide Bank for use by farmers was never done before. In a real country, his press secretary would be fire for the bad information. According to a famous talk show host, “it is better to be considered a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubts.”

The future of the next generations of Dominicans will be affected by the debt they inherit. Spending money the country doesn’t have – or which it speculates it will receive through its economic citizenship program – appears to be the incumbent’s strategy for retaining power. This act alone surely has the potential to ‘destroy the future of Dominica’. Add to that the perception of international banks that Caribbean islands such as Dominica are simply tax avoidance or money laundering vehicles – again through economic citizenship programs – means it will become increasingly difficult for future generations of Dominicans to do business abroad. Words and politicking will not impact the future, but poorly thought-out, instant-gratification economic strategies will.
Mr. Skerrit, after 16 years in office, your work should speak for you because got the best opportunity to take Dominica forward. First of all, you came in after the death of two PM’s in office, and you had the sympathy of almost all of us. You inherited a situation where bitter enemies like supporters of DLP and DFP rallied behind you. Bro you put a 17% vat on us which gave you extra money to run the country. Under your reign we began to pay hospital fees, license fees increased, you had China and Chavez giving you lots of money and, the citizenship program, and a bias speaker.
You have done the least to develop Dominica. Yes, you have developed yourself above measure as well as some of your former and present ministers and a few top supporters. But the rest of us, 90% of us and 98% of all Dominicans have become poorer. In St. Lucia the banana industry, tourism, and foreign investment booming. Here you killed all and turned us into a nation that is dependent on you for everything

Mr Honorable PM I have a few questions. What future do you see for Dominica? When all our bright young minds are leaving for anywhere? Do you realize that Dominicans are now migrating to unfamiliar places just to get away? What are the incentives put in place to keep our young people at home? Is Dominica now becoming a welfare state? Why is everyone going to you, are your ministers not competent to handle anything?
Personally I had high hopes for Dominica because it’s been a longtime that Dominica is in a rot, stagnant and moving to nowhere. Our political climate is rife with discord, innuendos, lies ,bitterness, one sided ness, e.t.c and nobody is doing nothing to change it, nobody. You as a young leader, I expected so much more. Your conscience is no where \”God Fearing\” for you would not speak that sentiment above. On the rare occasions when you perform your duties that you were elected to do, you show your face in public and throw mapwis at people like we are in Lagon drinking cane rum and D-Special Rum. Even that Baroness woman flew down to Dominica and told our suffering citizens to “Sousay Sel,” because of dissent.
Mr. Prime Minister, let’s do a quick audit of your administration. You spent upwards of $140 million dollars to expand and upgrade the main airport in the mouth of a raging river. You started a 50 room guest house in the swamp in Portsmouth without proper drainage. By the way, it’s still not finished after three years plus. Marigot hospital was forced to close down because of mold. The Princess Margaret Hospital is a total mess. Agriculture is dead! The abattoir was constructed near a major water catchment area. Unemployment is at an all-time high on the island. You spent$ 50 million plus on geothermal energy in Laudat and told us we would be selling electricity to Martinique. That too is a bust! The boat for farmers produce materialized into another colossal bust. So I know that you’re talking about yourself and it’s sad that you must expose your dirty laundry in public for all to see.
