The Police have said they want to ensure that patrons are in a safe and secure environment during the World Creole Music Festival, which kicks off on Friday.

Deputy Chief of Police, Davidson Valerie, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the police are mandated to ensure that patrons attend the festival in a secure environment.

He called on all patrons to conduct themselves in accordance with the laws of Dominica during the three-day event.

“Persons who intend to involve themselves in violent or criminal conduct will be subject to the swift and firm response of the law enforcement officers,” Valerie warned.

The police force is also taking measures in expectations of the intense flow of traffic expected in Roseau.

“The volume of traffic is expected to intensify immensely and therefore the police has put measures in place to manage the flow of vehicular traffic in and around the city,” Valerie stated.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, John Carbon, outlined the traffic arrangement in the city for WCMF.

“There will be a no entry at the intersection of Cork Street and Bath Road, there will be no entry at the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and Independence Street,” he said. “There will also be a no entry at the intersection of River Street and Bath Road.”

Carbon also stated that, “Residents of Bath road, between CorkStreet and Kennedy Avenue will be granted vehicular access to their homes as well as residents of Kennedy Avenue, between Independence Street and Bath Road. Residents in those areas will be given a pass by the Festival’s Commission to do so.”

There will be absolutely no parking along the link road from the intersection of Bath Road and Valley Road, Carbon remarked.
