Prime Minister on a visit to Africa

PM Skerrit

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is on a visit to Sub Saharan Africa aimed at improving relations between the Dominica and the African continent.

Acting Prime Minister Reginald Austrie speaking at a function here on Monday night said that Skerrit’s visit is also aimed at improving relations between the wider Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Africa.

The state-owned Dominica Broadcasting Service (DBS) said that Skerrit has signed two agreements “on the establishment of political consultations and economic technical scientific and cultural cooperation” with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Dr. Taieb Fassi Fihri.

“The agreements are meant to strengthen political ties as well as  economic …and cultural cooperation. A joint commission was created to facilitate the implementation of the agreement,” DBS said.

@Gary: Yes interesting all they do is bring down the country and everything that is good intentioned they criticize and even insult persons. All be objective even if you don’t support a party. Let us pray and bless our land and break all curses sent by all this negative talks by our own “Dominican” people

Lord Father we come before you and ask for forgiveness of our people against the Nation. Forgive them and we pray that you pour wisdom in great abundance and blessings over all our people. We praise and thank you for all the goodies that we have in our land .. So many persons out would like to have we have and they don’t have. Father we confess the sins of our people who have not been grateful for what we have. Have mercy on us, Have mercy on us and forgive us. You are a Merciful Father and so many of us are ungrateful. We pray for all our Leaders in the Government, Public and Private Sector. We also pray for our Opposition Leaders. Guide them and arrest them with your Holy Spirit. May they become Humble and do as you would like them to do. Your will and not their selfish will. Be a Lamp for their feet. Shut the mouths of those who are attacking the country in order to curse our well being. Arrest them with the Holy Spirit and give them wisdom and understanding so we will see everything through your eyes and not our worldly eyes. Let this Nation prosper and let there be a revival in our nation that we will seek you first. Then as citizens we will pray that our nation will be in tune with your commandments. It is you who puts up and puts down and we trust and put our confidence in you that you will do what is best for this nation of Dominica. Bless all our inhabitants in this land. We break ( in the Name of your son who died on the cross for our sins) all influences of the dark forces especially over our youths – young men and all our citizens. Send your waring Angels to protect our young men from the scourges of the enemy whose role is to steal, kill and destroy. You are there to give life and give it abundantly. We claim on behalf of every citixzen this abundant life. This we ask through your son. Let all we do bring Glory and Honour to you since you and you alone are worthy of praise and honour.

    Amen

@Ryon: Little do you know, go do your research. Think for yourself and do not be blinded.

I lived in the Mighty USA long enough to know its good and evils. I have also lived among Africans and read their history and culture to appreciate their richness. Some of these same Africans are running away from the MOTHER country for various reasons including oppression. Go read the history of Morocco and what agreements were signed by your PM and their possible repercussions. Di not take things at face value, look deeper!

@Watcher: Thank you for the lesson Watcher. I have nothing against Your PM- the young man. I just have a problem with the lack of transpirancy and moral decay that is taking place in the country that I and my children have to live in.

I must inform you that I do read extensively and that I am quite able to think and make decisions for myself independent of political persuasions.

We will all reap the benefits of the PM’s visit as we are doing from his trip to China. May the Good Lord open the eyes of Dominicans.

    @Interesting

You have a right to your opinion but as someone who is interested in Dominica Politics and not Dominican why do you make derogatory, general statements trying to show some kind of superiority even wanting to choose our destiny, as to who should Govern us. I’m not a supporter of any political party but when someone makes derogatory comments referring to Dominica in a negative manner, my country, I will not stand by and accept such barrage based on ignorance especially when it is based on personal opinions and not facts. What is it that makes you hate our beloved country. Why are you so obsessed with people who love their Prime minister and have chosen him as their leader, you accused me of a clouded mind, thanks God my mind is not clouded because with a clouded mind I would not see your antics and disrespect for a country.

I take your word for who you say you’re, but let us remember big men do not play games let us be truthful
and not hide behind “aliases” to disregard what you think of us, Proud Dominicans is not only arrogant but utterly shameless.

@Ryon: Ryon, has it occurred to you that some of us may have practical experience of Morocco i.e. have visited that country, leave alone read about it!? It is a democratic state in name only as effective control rests with its its hereditary ruler and the “Makbzen” (elite) that surrounds him. The king, who enjoys vast wealth and endless privileges, appoints the prime minister at his beckoning in a parliament that is toothless, regardless of the outcome of any elections. The country ranks very low on press freedom, high on corruption, is the main source of illegal shipments of hashish (derivative of canabis) and a leading player in the smuggling of people to the EU. May I refer you to an informative, up-to-date and well balanced web site such as: http://www.maroccoboard.com.

Skerrit (Dominica) withdraws recognition of The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Morocco. Did Skerrit discuss this with parliament or anybody else? This decision that was made in Morocco by Skerrit has international repercussions on our island. Folks we are in trouble with Roosevelt Skerrit- The making of a Papa Doc Duvalier is here—–
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is a partially recognized state that claims sovereignty over the entire territory of Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony. SADR was proclaimed by the Polisario Front on February 27, 1976 in Western Sahara. The SADR government currently controls about 20-25% of the territory it claims. Morocco controls and administers the rest of the disputed territory and calls these lands its Southern Provinces. The SADR government considers the Moroccan-held territory occupied territory, while Morocco considers the much smaller SADR held territory to be a buffer zone.
The SADR acts as a government administration in the Sahrawi refugee camps located in the Tindouf Province of western Algeria as a result of invasion by Morocco. Effective independence is unclear with Polisario and Algerian authorities claiming Algerian authorities respect the autonomy of the government in exile, and stay outside the Sahrawi refugee camps. Several foreign aid agencies, including the UNHCR, are continually active in the camps
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is currently recognized as a sovereign representative of Western Sahara by eighty-one states, mostly African and other governments in the developing world. Sahrawi embassies exist in fifteen states Dominica withdrew its recognition of SADR because its Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit just formalized relationship with Morocco for economic assistance.
Although it has no recognition from the United Nations, the republic has been a full member of the African Union (AU, formerly the Organization of African Unity, (OAU) since 1984. Morocco withdrew from the OAU in protest and remains the only African nation not within the AU since South Africa’s admittance in 1994. The SADR is also a member of the Asian-African Strategic Partnership formed at the 2005 Asian-African Conference [over Moroccan objections to SADR participation.
In 2006, the SADR participated in a conference of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of the Latin American and the Caribbean (COPPAL)
In 2010, the SADR ambassador to Nicaragua participated in the opening conference of the Central American Parliament
The SADR is not a member of the Arab League, nor of the Arab Maghreb Union, both of which include Morocco as a full member.

Skerrit (Dominica) has tuned his back on these desperate people of Western Sahara for a couple of pennies from Morocco. There is so much suffering in the Refugee camps of Western Sahara ever since Morocco invaded them. Morocco’s military kills these people, rape the girls and women and violates their human rights. They want indepedence and sef determinations for themselves.

Rosie Douglas would have never done that………. See the passage below. Skerrit does not know history, and he is just travelling and signing documents. Shame on you Skerrit. Dominica is inbig trouble with this ‘cat’ in power. Just wat Morrocco willgive to Dominica or ratehr to Skerrit personally is the question???????

The Western Sahara lies on the North West coast of Africa, bordered by Mauritania, Algeria and Morocco. In 1975, Morocco invaded the Western Sahara, and embarked on a harsh and systematic oppression of the Saharawi people. Many Saharawis protested against the invasion and their treatment. Many were arrested, tortured or killed. Many more fled across the desert to Algeria, where they set up refugee camps.
They have been there ever since. Each year they hope that this will be the year when they can return home, but neither war, nor UN peace negotiations have achieved this to date. Saharawis living in the occupied Western Sahara struggle to keep their language, and their traditions, which are banned by the Moroccan government. They continue to protest against the occupation, and they continue to be arrested, tortured, and ‘disappeared’.
But the Saharawi spirit is far from beaten. In the camps, while twenty five years of exile has taken it’s toll, communities carry on. All children attend school, some are even able to go on to higher education in other countries, (mainly Cuba, Libya and Algeria). They have the highest literacy rate in Africa. Food is fairly distributed and no one goes without. Committees organise distribution of aid and the provision of health care.
The U.N , NGOs and others have been offering the hand of friendship to the Saharawi people and publicise their little-known plight and suffering for many years now.

i understand the patriotism by those who reponded to my earlier comment, but let me say this, I read an article about a bishop who was a Dominican and served as bishop in the country of Ghana for most of his tenure, he came back to Dominica and lived there for a while, but has since returned from his native country and is there now in Ghana serving in his last few days of his life, saying that h’ed rather be with those sisters who’s been around him for most of his life. What does that mean? It is naive to think that the PM cannot visit a country of an african descent whose political philosophy is of a totalitarian regime, if his goal is to build a political union, maybe it is vision beyond the norm, I think that we in the western hemisphere may have been misled by the colonial rule that ensalved people of a certain pigmentation and have kept us bondage into believing that we are less than based on our anccestary. Really we should be proud of nationhood with the belief that we as a small country can build diplomatic ties with countries of a different political view as long as there are no ifluences of hate and destruction. Maybe Mr Skerrit motive is far beyond the pettyness of the idealog that has plagued us into believing that our only ties should be with countries influenced by the the largest indusrial countries alone. If the result of the visit is to further educate the PM in matters of diplomacy,we as a small nation will benefit from the legacy that it will leave on the portfolio of the dully elected government of the commonwealth of Dominica.

Yet we think the PM of Dominica should stay in Dominica. We live in a world of diplomacy where head of states visit each other countries to explore ways of working with each other. Check Obama’s travel schedule (the White House is making these things public). Is he sitting in the White House all the time?

The World is a place where there are all kinds of coming together to try and see how best they can handle the affairs of the world on a whole. Most times the conferences, meetings etc are not at the expense of the visiting countries. The host countries most times invite at their expense the Government officials – both Local and Central. Please listen or read on the internet; Listen to news , so your minds can broaden. Alas Dominica is not standing and cannot stand on its own. There are many organisation worldwide who creates or makes seminars etc – for curbing the world’s social problems. So babes – you and all the other who jump and criticize , now is the time to listen to the World news, read magazines etc and know what is happennign around yo in the wide world. @BJ: BJ so true. Here you have a PM with dual citizenship, matter in court and not being dealt with expeditiously as our very laws say in the circumstances. For all you know Skerritt might be PM illegally, given that the constitution is respected by the courts. No excuses because the evidence is plain to see. In fact, Skerritt himself admitted that he holds a French passport. Would those agreements Skerritt signing black is white be declared null and void, not if but when the courts find him being a dual citizen with allegiance to France? Something is happening in Dominica. Is the fraternity at work putting a spoke in the wheels of justice? But tax payers is plenty perks for Skerritt in addition to all the other assets amassed while in public office. While you getting poorer, Skerritt getting fatter and richer.

Morocco? do your research Dominicans and find out what takes place there. You will never know why the PM chose Morocco. Remember that same PM signed some agreement with Dr. Badi, the American-Iranian for selling Dominican passports to people of the Middle East and/or anybody? Dominicans knew nothing about that deal until investigations revealed. Deals with David Hsui, who was DLP GOVT. and PM political adviser, who was made Dominica ambassador to China, until that famous BVI court case. Remember Felix Chen who went to court against Hsui to retrieve his $20,000,000.00. That was the only time Dominicans got to know about 51% shares in that Layou River Hotel Project disaster. PM and DLP boast about a cranked-up ‘victory’ and fooled Dominicans. Sensible Dominicans knew Skerritt would never take his close friend to court, not even to obtain our 51% shares. Didn’t you all hear about rebuilding the hotel after Felix Chen won the case? How long now since that BVI case? Are you all hearing anything about that failed project? So, do not be surprised, my people, MORE PERKS, MORE DEALS AND ?????????? until our local BOB WOODWARD REVELATIONS FROM THE INVESTIGATIONS.

Now they driving bus from marigot to Roseau to Portsmouth. What next?

Ms Williams I am in agreement with everything you wrote. How can we as a people sit there and let the prime minister signed two agreements with a another country with out informing the people of Dominica of his intentions. The prime minister will be establishing political consultation with Morocco. Morocco has a mornachy political system with a elected parliment , how ever the king holds the marjority of power in that country. Parlimentry election in morocco is due every nine years. I guess the prime minister will be consulting with Moroccan leaders how to change the political system in Dominica so general election can be help every nine years.

Just imagine, if you were the Prime Minister of Dominica what would be on your agenda? Some agreements, are like a marriage commitment, you never see all of the real friut after a long time, ok and agreement is like planting a banana plant, it may grow up and produce a healthy bunch, or it may grow up and thrown down by the wind, does that mean a farmer is to stop planting plants just because what he planted did not produce what was expected. Dominica is a small county in the hemisphere and we need all kinds of diplomatic relations, whether static or dynamic. Let us wish him well and pray that those lilateral relationships do yeild a posituve results, for those behind us. You go Skerro!!!!!

Dominicans stop opposing for oposing sake. A small third world county like dominica cannot depend on its own resources to sustain itself, it must seek aid in the international coumunity. we need to be real.

He needs to visit every hamlet in Dominica first,to see the state that he has plunged poor people into, before going abroad to waste tax payers money. Some Dominicans are poorer than Africans compliments the Dominica Skerrit Party..He and his ministers are among the wealthiest people in Caricom. He fooled the people into believing that Red Clinic would solve their poverty, now the people are desperate and crime level is spiralling out of proportion. The police and wider society are all stunned..Your leadership is poor, shameful, atrocious, cruel, and it is doing great harm to most of us poor Dominicans sir..
