Dominica’s Health Minister Julius Timothy has hinted that the drought season could cause a rise in the cost of electricity on the island.
“At peak water times, 40 % of our electricity is provided from hydro and once you have the water supply declining, we are going to be more dependent on fossil fuel and our cost of power will be higher,” he said at a press conference last week.
Dominica’s sole electricity producer DOMLEC has told Dominicans that they should conserve water, as the dry season approaches.
Me thinks that Mr. Timothy was misplaced in a ministry. Time to re-shuffle.
we borjay!
The Minister for Health needs to concentrate all his energies in ensuring that one of the four pillar projects (Sate of the art Medical Facility) that was signed in a Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Republic of China, become a reality very soon. We are in 2010 and the people of Dominica deserve a modern medial facility capable of providing timely medical service when needed.
He should not be making any statements regarding energy cost or consumption. While we’re on the drought topic, I hope this dry season will give us an opportunity to plant more trees and outlaw logging close to our major water catchment areas.
If we fail to preserve our environment, it will fail us when we need it the most.
Seems like TIM-TIM wetting his feet ahead of the Court Cases.. AMBROSE are you there??
Why shouldn’t he be the Minister of Health???
Why is Timothy the health minister in the first place?
The ministers are all confused they have no job description. It appears like the Ministers are in favour of the hike in the cost of electricity. Domlec has been in business for decades now and everytime there is an additional cost in providing electricity it is passed down to the consumers. Are we ever going to see the company absord the cost of providing electricity? VEnezuela provided lower cost in gasoline did we ever see a drastic change in our electricity bill?NO we never domlec the people got a complain.
Interesting that the first minister to speak to this is the minister of health …
Why is Timothy making that statement. That issue should be handled by the minister responsible for energy.
