Programme coming soon to rescue the “poorest of the poor” – George

Minister Ambrose George

Government is planning to launch a National Beneficiary Identification System (NBIS) to enhance its social and safety net programs with the aim of reducing poverty.

Minister of Telecommunications Ambrose George, who represented Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at a consultation at the Garraway Hotel recently, said that the NBIS will involve the strengthening of a modern social information system to ensure proper coordination and monitoring of all social and safety net programs.

“I am pleased to announce that through the Growth and Social Protection Technical Assistance Project funded by this government, European Union and the World Bank, se are about to launch very soon a National Beneficiary Identification System (NBIS),” he stated.

“Through the NBIS, we will be able to classify applicants to social programs in a rapid uniformed and equitable way and consequently improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our safety net programs,” he said.

The minister added that the system will concentrate its efforts on the “poorest of the poor”.

He mentioned that one of the overall goals of the program is to enhance government’s effectiveness in delivering public goods and services by strengthening the institutional capacity of key agencies.

The program will also facilitate private sector competitiveness and productivity all aimed at reducing poverty, George said.

He is optimistic that such a program will effect a further reduction in poverty.

“However, the input and feedback from stakeholders will be necessary if we are to meet our goals,” he added.

To Nature Lover: Be careful of your including the teachings of the Bible in this topic. God already has enough trouble with those who do not understand His Words.

When we start telling people the Bible says “blessed are the poor” without further explanation, people who have no food, shelter, clothing. and money will curse God for saying that, through Jesus Christ. And who can blame them? We want people to accept the words of the Bible, not turn against them and against God.

But the Bible is not talking about material poverty. Jesus was talking about Spiritual poverty when He said “blessed are the poor”. His exact words were: “Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”. Matthew 5: 1

Poor in Spirit means that a person is not sensitive, or is ignorant of the presence of God in his/her life. And Jesus is saying that is good, because God is Love, of mercy and compassion for those who are humble and ignorant of Him and His Ways. By faith He will cause those persons to know Him, and He will teach them how to prepare to live with Him, in Eternity. The Kingdom of God will be their home, because of the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit in them.

A person who is poor in Spirit can be rich, with money and material assets, or the other way around.
That person is a blessed person, as long as he/she continue with the attitude and conducts of humility, obedience, and trust.

As far as material poverty is concerned, only God knows the reason He allow this to happen to so many of us. However, I am glad to be materially poor, because I have a reason to depend on God. I know that He satisfies my material poverty, in that I feel rich in Love, my Life, the Light of Jesus Christ in my awakened soul.

I hate it, that in Dominica we think of ourselves as poor, because we do not have a thick bank book. We have so much richness in climate, and natural beauty. All we need to do is to nurture this beauty of ours. A clean surrounding and a clean mind with peace and joy is the best richness a man will ever own.

I have had the opportunity to employ two recipients of red clinic homes in the past year. The 1st a woman would be partying and drunk every weekend and fired the work once she got the skerrit house.
The second a very skilled stone mason, but once paid on a friday would not be able to work till the following thursday. Drunk from friday till tuesday then hung over. I only found out about he being a recipient of red clinic yesterday.

Why are Dominicans so poor and backward? I t has to be of this illegitimate Government.
To become a rich man, you have to join the Polikal Arena. And if you oppose their talks, you will be as poorer as can be! George is an example!

    Windsor Park Stadium,
    Renovation of schools,
Soon to come Hotel at Melville Hall,

Those UWP people always strtching their mouths on DNO. Better the DLP than the UWP. What could have been done before was never done by the UWP or DFP. DLP is the only govenment which made me see mass development in Dominica.

They may have their issues but Dominica is better than off with Labour than any other party.
For uwp to take over, they need to weed the old heads from there and bring new, young blood.

The Bible said it*blessed are the poor* so whatever is done to alleviate thier plight ,i concur,we just have to learn from past programmes mistakes and do it right to weed out the opportunistic ones…We need a special programme for those who are seemingly *rich* in academic–knowledge but exceedingly poor in day to day implementation,

“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. Social programs, say it as it is hand outs. Job creation is what we should be looking at. Not giving people hand outs. Let our people be able to fend for themselves not become over dependent on the government. The European Union has seen what this can do it just leaves to an over dependence of the people on the government making many countries more socialist that anything else. That is what the present government wants anyway. How many people will bite the hand that is feeding them.

We are going the wrong way. Development through Job creation and creativity. Have our politicians ran out of Idea or had non from the beginning.
Why are you trying to Enslave the people through hand outs. Create jobs and give the people a choice to make there lives better or not.

It is amazing to see how this goverment wants to eradicate poverty in this country.social programs are for short term only not long term, and this country has so many social programs which is non sustainable programs These guyes are still in election mode.

I would like to ask simple question i would like this goverment to answer the people of this country

CHINA HAS A SURPLUS OF US $ 3 TRILLION AND THE NUMBER OF POOR OF THE POOR IS CLOSE TO 500 MILLION PEOPLE. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS GIVE EVERY POOR OF THE POOR CHINESE US $6000 WHICH IS ALL MOST 6 YEARS OF PAY AND ALL CHINESE WILL COME OUT OF POVERTY.

WHAT IS WONG WITH THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY OF THIS COUNTRY
I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT DAIC IT IS CONSIDERED BY MOST OF THE PEOPLE AS

DOMINICA ASSOCIATION OF IDIOTS AND CLOWNS

WHICH HAS A PRESIDENT,VICE PRESIDENT,TREASURER AND THE BOARD AND MEMBERS ALSO

What are they really talking about? What Social Programmes? “The program will also facilitate private sector competitiveness and productivity all aimed at reducing poverty, George said.” What does this mean?. words words words. Please tell us exactly what you all are about. When you identify these people, will you be providing training to get them off poverty? Giving them money? Protection by helping with housing?
