Range Developments describes newspaper article as ‘misleading’

Range Developments, the developers of luxury resorts in the Caribbean, has described an article published in the Sun Newspaper this week as “inaccurate, misleading and wholly wrong.”

In a press release the company is asking the newspaper for a full apology and to correct the information.

The article, “Court Stops Cabrits Resort,” stated that the High Court judge has placed a temporary stop to the construction of the 140-room Kempinski Group’s Douglas Bay Resort and that the judge granted an exparte injunction to Leslie Allan Emmanuel who claims that the company hired to construct the resort was removing large quantities of sand from his property without permission.

But Range Developments said this is not the case.

“There is no truth whatsoever in The Sun headline ‘Court Stops Cabrits Resort’. There is no court order stopping any work whatsoever on the project, which is continuing without complication or delay,” the company’s release said.

In a statement the Sun said the article was “wholly unfounded” and expressed “its regrets to Range Capital Partners (Dominica) Limited, the developers of Cabrits Resort Kempinski, and NH International (Caribbean) Ltd, the builders of the said Resort for any embarrassment and inconvenience which may have been caused to them.”

“We wish to make it clear that the Court Order referred to in the article does not implicate Range Capital Partners (Dominica) Limited or any of its staff or associates,” the statement said. “The Court Order was sought and obtained by the claimants as owners of the land where the sand, pumice and stones were being extracted and directed against the defendants described as ‘Persons Unknown (being persons entering lands at Pointe Round Ltd. and removing tarish/pumice stones without the consent of the claimants).'”

It continues, “Neither Range Capital Partners (Dominica) Ltd, the developers of the Cabrits Resort Kempinski, nor NH International (Caribbean) Ltd, the builders of the said Resort are parties to the lawsuit and no order was made by the High Court to stop work on the Cabrits Resort.”

Construction on the resort began recently and is expected to complete in 2018.

It is being constructed under the Citizenship by Investment Program.

This just strengthens my resolve to double check everything I hear and refuse to jump on bandwagons without knowing whether what is being said is true or false. Too many reputations and relationships have been destroyed based on innuendo and rumour. People who have known others all their lives just hear a nasty story about them, do not give them the benefit of the doubt or find out whether it is true and just join the perpetrators of the rumour in destroying the person’s reputation.

Good for you Kempinski Resort for not being intimidated by the rumour mills that most of the Dominica media have become. Shame on the sun for this irresponsible journalism. Question now arises, how many other false or unfounded stories have you published and how many people have suffered as a result?

If the resort is doing anything illegal or unacceptable that is quite another matter and that should be dealt with but this irresponsible media reporting really must stop.

The ‘opposition devices’ have been working had to stop progress in Dominica and dirty Dominica’s name for their own selfish and sick political interest. Everyday some of them wish Dominica bad just for their twisted agenda. And to realise that some of them are even asking to run that very country. Shameful.

Skeriitt and his DLP Gov’t, as well as Range Developments, will be held responsible for the destruction and irreparable damage that is going on in part of our Cabrits National Park. Instead of protection of our fragile environment, Skeriitt shows no mercy, no respect. The impact on the environment in the area will be enormously negative. Forget about Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Who cares? Morocco hotel chaos, who cares?

History will record that it was Skerritt, who went to the House of Parliament, amended the Law regarding the protection of our National Park and with his majority carved out 15 ACRES, yes 15 ACRES of land in our CABRITS NATIONAL PARK, and handed all that over to the foreign Co., Range Developments..

Range Dev. even got our passports to sell to make millions to build their hotel, not ours, Dominicans, although it is our passports they selling. Whose FOOLS ARE DOMINICANS?

That foreign “investor” comes empty-handed laughing at you?

What they should file against this so called reputable company is an injunction for not having a proper EIA done of the site and proper planning permission for the, structures to built based on the EIA. So that people like me as a member of the public can have unlimited access to. But what see is the Same stupidness like the geothermal project and the Morrocan Hotel and the Layou Hotel. No planning permission no EIA as far as we the public know of and the financing is questionable. For instance how many of our passports were sold to capitalize the project. They and government are refusing to make these matters clear to us yet still they coming with they are reputable company and how the Sun is misleading. Garcon reputable my as……… foot. Only in Dominica this nonsense can happen over and over again.

Likewise, seven years ago no Environmental Impact Assessment was done at Antrim before permission was granted for dumping millions of tons of spoil from Red Gully, and look at the mess we’re in now!

Was an EIA done for that site. I question the construction method of simply back filling the site. The water from a swamp must find a route to flow out. Where will it flow to?What about sewage disposal? Obviously, septic tank and soak away pit cannot work in a swamp.
Belle Hall Beach is pristine with clean, clear waters. Range Ltd. must make the EIA public. What is the outlet for the swamp waters? Is it Belle Hall Beach.
What is the means of sewage disposal? Will we see a polluted Belle Hall beach in the near future?

People of Portsmouth…. wake up from your slumber and start asking these pertinent question. Belle Hall Beach is the only unpolluted beach in Portsmouth now.
