Nineteen scouts from seven regional countries gathered in Dominica recently to participate in the Trainer of Trainers Interamerican Level 1 Course.

The event was hosted by the Dominica Scout Association and participants were taught to be more proficient in their technical, administrative and higher level scouting skills.

The training was facilitated by two regional trainers from Panama and one local trainer.

Immediate past Chief Scout Commissioner, Bonti Liverpool, is of the view that the course was as timely as it was necessary.

“Our last training in the Caribbean at that level was in Barbados in 2002 and it is a mark of the health of our Association that we were able to successfully host that training,” he remarked.

Present Chief Scout Commissioner, Irwin David, gave the training thumbs up.

“The course was of a decidedly high level,” he observed. “Seven Dominicans were trained there and I am looking forward to their contribution in advancing the Association. I am pleased with our efforts.”

National Scout Organizations represented were Jamaica, St.Lucia, Grenada, Anguilla, Guyana, Suriname and Dominica.

The participants were taught how to design Scouting Modules, how to form Lesson Plans, how to apply Training Methods, how to Develop and Adapt Training, how to communicate effectively, how to Mentor, Tutor and Counsel, how to Organize and Manage Training, how to recognize the Role of the Trainer and the role of the Training Team, how to effect Training Systems, and how to undertake Unit Leader Training and Decentralized Training.

Leader Trainers, Rafe Lucado and Ralph Dillman and Operations Executive, Ron Richardson from the Scout Regional Head Office, assisted by Dominica National Leader Trainer, Edward C. Henderson, facilitated the sessions.

The training was held at the Diocesan Centre at Rosalie.
