Today marks the first anniversary of the killing of our beloved Kent “Pembo” Pemberton. He was riding his bike that fateful Wednesday morning on his way to work as a teacher and instructor in Auto Mechanic Engineering at the Pierre Charles Secondary School at Grandbay.
He left his home on 9th Street, Canefield, travelled to Roseau, bought a few mangoes at the Roseau Market, entered the traffic on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard and was riding in a southerly direction. He approached the Royal Bank of Canada, noticed a dump truck travelling in the opposite direction. He continued along his way to cross the intersection with King George V Street.
Without any warning and contrary to a basic lesson and law of road use, the dump truck entered upon Kent’s right-of-way, making a sharp right turn unto King George V Street, smashing bike and rider in the process.
Kent made a desperate attempt to escape an impact but this was not to be. He had on his helmet and rider’s jacket, but those failed to save him. He succumbed to the injuries within an hour of the accident.
Today, the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Kent’s family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, colleagues and well-wishers still wait the determination of the Courts on the circumstances of his death. He did everything right that fateful Wednesday morning, but………………………………….!! !! !!
you’re still in our hearts “Pembo”…rest in eternal peace.
May you rest in perfect peace Pembo. You were loved by everyone. You will always be remembered.
DNO please rephrase this article, at first I was under the impression that someone had literally murdered the man , It seem like an accident to me, but it’s sad, so unfortunate.
“Reckless driving causing death” KILLING…..HMMMMM. I’m a driver myself and have to deal with such, at time I might self can be a bit reckless as we all face that day to day temptation to do something foolish at times. Satan and mad….and we are making even more happy by being negative and selfish. We all have failed in some form or area of our lives. Lets looking at the positiveness this man brought the we while he was alive. To the truck driver let the law decide what your punishment is. Peace….
the po lice did not collected no evidence on this matter so the case was thrown out like my friends life but God will deal with those responsible
My Boy Was Killed!!!!!!!!
He is now Resting In Peace with Our God.
Love To The Max, Bro
This story sounds very one-sided it is almost like the write has made the decision for the courts. The driver of the truck sounds guilty as charged by this news site. It was an accident but like everything else there are” three” (your version, my version and the actual version) sides to every story.
As a trusted news site the writers and editors need to maintain a professional decorum and keep it impartial no matter how close to home a story may hit.
To the family of the deceased; may the Lord God comfort your souls. To the truck driver and his family keep faith in the Lord and he will carry you through.
RIP Pembo, nuff people still bawling about your passing especially considering it was a wreck less driver. The biggest issue in DA is that drivers just don’t respect motorcyclist, they think they don’t have to stop, signal or give way when it’s a motorcycle coming. We need to set an example and let the guy that caused Pembo’s death pay to the fullest extent of the law.I guess he’ll get Dyer to represent him but even those so called Lawyers will get their judgement. They think they can hide behind their professions and keep representing criminals all the time. You really have to ask when do they ever represent the innocent. It’s all about money in the name of representation what a dirty profession, with double standards.
It is so true that this driver is a reckless driver.Everytime I see that driver i keep saying to my self what has became of the case, and what was he charge for.can you imagine i saw him driving after that happen.
Well so sad but if the court takn too long go by grand madam and fix him to get justice
the word killing is just wrong weather the driver made a illegal turn or not he never ment to kill nor hurt anyone it was an accident and what make you think he is not sorry for that so lets not say he kill the young man it was a accident and i both family dealt with it too
I was just going to write that. The word killing is definitely out of place there. It is offensive an prejudicial. I have no idea if there is a case before the courts, but if there is, DNO has just corrupted its potential jury pool.
I think there is a difference between murder and killed. Can’t someone be killed in an accident?
He was not murdered but as long as he did not die of natural causes as far as I am concerned he was killed.
he was a friend, colleague, and a loved one. Really miss you. To the family members be strong. Still see him with his dancing shoes on the dance floor, apron around his waist in the kitchen. I’ve not come across a guy who can cook like Kent. All I have of you my boy is gooooooood memories. you have me smiling. Thanks God for knowing you. You had a positive impact on my life.
My brother was killed because the man was a reckless driver with history of accidents and reckless driving..my brother didn’t die in his sleep he was hit on his bike by a careless person so therefore he was KILLED!!!!
Not killing but death of, he died in an accident
The word kill (verb) means to cause the death of (a person, animal or living thing). How was he not killed? Sometimes I wonder about our English credibility.
May his soul rest in peace. He is with our Lord now. safe.
But the person who wrote what was just read above was with him on the morning of the accident or did the person received what happen in a dream? JUST ASKING.
KENT WAS KILLED AND THE COURT IS TAKING TOO LONG TO MAKE A DECISION. THAT IS JUST RIDICULOUS
There is NO justice in Dominica. The system is very immature and unprofessional. Proven everyday. Many money hungry Lying Lawyers. sad but so true.
“He did everything right that fateful Wednesday morning, but………………………………….!! !! !!”
Guess someone was asleep during grammar period.
May your soul continue to rest in peace I miss you sir.love you in death god take the one he love the most!!!
god takes no one, humans cause pain, not GOD
He is missed by so many…
the killing?? it was a vehicular accident not a murder.
A killing is not necessarily a murder but a murder is always a killing. So he wasn’t murdered but he was killed.
Again….check a dictionary before making comments.Did you people sleep through English classes or something?
Excuse me kubuli country the word “killing” was rightly used.. He was murdered by a stupid driver that believed that road laws was not for him
RIP my brother RIP we will never understand why only God know
The driver shuold be in custody rigth now, what kind of nonse is this the police should charge him with vehiclure manslaugther period.
I did not know the Pemberton but he was murdered the drivers are getting away with it. They are reckless drivers it is time to put a stop. But who will take the lead who will the Police? Nothing is being done about the crazy drivers under the canefield cliff and everywhere else. It is madness in the place. only this morning I saw a driver was force to stop as someone over take them going over the bridge next to saaman gardens it was absolutely crazy..
regardless of the intention of this press release the whole tone is in poor taste.
The media is expected to be an unbiased entity. However there are times when written in the intended or unintended tone that articles help shove along a case. And this one requires shoving along!PERIOD!
R.I.P Pembo
So Sad, when is the government going to step up and take more control over the stow of traffic in DA,why isn’t there more 4 way stops on the streets. Why so people think its ok to stop in the centre of the street to talk to someone they know.Thats just shit, some Dominicans have no respect for the roads.
Since the driver made an illegal turn, he should be charged with vehicular homicide.
These Dominican drivers are too reskless and lacks proper driving consideration.
I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT TOPIC,AND SOME JUS DONT RESPECT THE LAW ON THE STREET,THEY BELIEVE IT’S THEM ONLY,THEY DONT EVEN GIVE US THE PEDESTRIAN THE GO AHEAD TO CROSS,IT DOESN’T MATTER EVEN IF THERE IS RAIN,SUN THEY JUS DONT HAVE THE PROPER TRANING….MY FRIEND LOST HIS LIFE BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE AND THE LACK OF POLICE PATROLING THE STREETS OF ROSEAU OR COUNTRY,TO SEE VEHICLE DRIVERS BREAKING THE LAW…WE NEED MORE POLICE TO PATROL THE STREETS MORE OFTEN,AND IT DOESNT MATTER EVEN IF ONE OF THEM DRIVERS ARE POLICE,OR NORMAL PEOPLE DRIVING THEY ALL NEED TO GET TICKETS WHEN THEY BREAK THE DOMINICAN LAW…R.I.P KENT PEMBERTON….AS I WUD ALWAYS CALL HIM (K.P)….
REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND,I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU AND YOUR KIND,HELPFUL AND LOVING WAY…
May his soul rest in peace. This no matter how long it happened can never be easy to digest. No one can accept that untimely death of someone such as Kent. peeps just keep holding strong.
I lost a true friend that day and it still hurts..RIP Pembo.
i noticed this young man has the same last name as i. does anyone have more details about him like next of kin, place of birth, family ect.
“…still wait the determination of the Courts on the circumstances of his death” then What?
Did the PCSS put out this press release or is in any way associated with this? School you start being a school and not getting into these type of things.
@ En Ben La
Dont be insensitive on this unfortunate day.
Some of us have been thinking about Kent fromlast year up till now.
We take comfort that God wanted him safe and preserved until such time.
May God comfort us all.
God took his son. It was time.
so if you say GOD took his son, what are you complaining about?
Never time
Alas!! Shed a tear!! kEEP RESTING IN PERFECT PEACE!!!
Nice young man has gone because of some stupid driver.
Yes Yes Yes, careless drivers on the streets of Dominica, I see them all over, all over. As for under the Canefield cliff, as for the bus drivers. Lord help us in this land. We patrol police along the high way, everywhere to stop these kinds of reckless and careless driving.
“Today marks the first anniversary of the “killing” of our beloved Kent “Pembo” Pemberton”….I had to put the word killing in quotation marks….was the use of the word killing or deliberate?? If so, I believe the use of that word is a bit harsh, don’t you think? Why not just say “the death of our beloved…”
Because the man was a reckless driver. He had accidents in the past so he was known for driving recklessly and he killed my brother with his careless and reckless driving so I think the word killing was very appropriate.
was thinking the same
These were my same sentiments.
Because he was killed, hence the use of the word
FYI…when was the last time you heard anything on this case in the news? Think of the use of the word killing in that context. He was killed if you know the definition of the term.
HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHER IN DOMINICA
