Remembering Kent “Pembo” Pemberton

Kent Pemberton

Today marks the first anniversary of the killing of our beloved Kent “Pembo” Pemberton. He was riding his bike that fateful Wednesday morning on his way to work as a teacher and instructor in Auto Mechanic Engineering at the Pierre Charles Secondary School at Grandbay.

He left his home on 9th Street, Canefield, travelled to Roseau, bought a few mangoes at the Roseau Market, entered the traffic on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard and was riding in a southerly direction. He approached the Royal Bank of Canada, noticed a dump truck travelling in the opposite direction.  He continued along his way to cross the intersection with King George V Street.

Without any warning and contrary to a basic lesson and law of road use, the dump truck entered upon Kent’s right-of-way, making a sharp right turn unto King George V Street, smashing bike and rider in the process.

Kent made a desperate attempt to escape an impact but this was not to be. He had on his helmet and rider’s jacket, but those failed to save him. He succumbed to the injuries within an hour of the accident.

Today, the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Kent’s family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, colleagues and well-wishers still wait the determination of the Courts on the circumstances of his death.  He did everything right that fateful Wednesday morning, but………………………………….!! !! !!

“Reckless driving causing death” KILLING…..HMMMMM. I’m a driver myself and have to deal with such, at time I might self can be a bit reckless as we all face that day to day temptation to do something foolish at times. Satan and mad….and we are making even more happy by being negative and selfish. We all have failed in some form or area of our lives. Lets looking at the positiveness this man brought the we while he was alive. To the truck driver let the law decide what your punishment is. Peace….

This story sounds very one-sided it is almost like the write has made the decision for the courts. The driver of the truck sounds guilty as charged by this news site. It was an accident but like everything else there are” three” (your version, my version and the actual version) sides to every story.

As a trusted news site the writers and editors need to maintain a professional decorum and keep it impartial no matter how close to home a story may hit.

To the family of the deceased; may the Lord God comfort your souls. To the truck driver and his family keep faith in the Lord and he will carry you through.

RIP Pembo, nuff people still bawling about your passing especially considering it was a wreck less driver. The biggest issue in DA is that drivers just don’t respect motorcyclist, they think they don’t have to stop, signal or give way when it’s a motorcycle coming. We need to set an example and let the guy that caused Pembo’s death pay to the fullest extent of the law.I guess he’ll get Dyer to represent him but even those so called Lawyers will get their judgement. They think they can hide behind their professions and keep representing criminals all the time. You really have to ask when do they ever represent the innocent. It’s all about money in the name of representation what a dirty profession, with double standards.

the word killing is just wrong weather the driver made a illegal turn or not he never ment to kill nor hurt anyone it was an accident and what make you think he is not sorry for that so lets not say he kill the young man it was a accident and i both family dealt with it too

      May 19, 2012

I was just going to write that. The word killing is definitely out of place there. It is offensive an prejudicial. I have no idea if there is a case before the courts, but if there is, DNO has just corrupted its potential jury pool.

I think there is a difference between murder and killed. Can’t someone be killed in an accident?

      May 20, 2012

He was not murdered but as long as he did not die of natural causes as far as I am concerned he was killed.

The word kill (verb) means to cause the death of (a person, animal or living thing). How was he not killed? Sometimes I wonder about our English credibility.

So Sad, when is the government going to step up and take more control over the stow of traffic in DA,why isn’t there more 4 way stops on the streets. Why so people think its ok to stop in the centre of the street to talk to someone they know.Thats just shit, some Dominicans have no respect for the roads.

  27. Rule
    May 18, 2012

Since the driver made an illegal turn, he should be charged with vehicular homicide.
These Dominican drivers are too reskless and lacks proper driving consideration.

I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT TOPIC,AND SOME JUS DONT RESPECT THE LAW ON THE STREET,THEY BELIEVE IT’S THEM ONLY,THEY DONT EVEN GIVE US THE PEDESTRIAN THE GO AHEAD TO CROSS,IT DOESN’T MATTER EVEN IF THERE IS RAIN,SUN THEY JUS DONT HAVE THE PROPER TRANING….MY FRIEND LOST HIS LIFE BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE AND THE LACK OF POLICE PATROLING THE STREETS OF ROSEAU OR COUNTRY,TO SEE VEHICLE DRIVERS BREAKING THE LAW…WE NEED MORE POLICE TO PATROL THE STREETS MORE OFTEN,AND IT DOESNT MATTER EVEN IF ONE OF THEM DRIVERS ARE POLICE,OR NORMAL PEOPLE DRIVING THEY ALL NEED TO GET TICKETS WHEN THEY BREAK THE DOMINICAN LAW…R.I.P KENT PEMBERTON….AS I WUD ALWAYS CALL HIM (K.P)….

Yes Yes Yes, careless drivers on the streets of Dominica, I see them all over, all over. As for under the Canefield cliff, as for the bus drivers. Lord help us in this land. We patrol police along the high way, everywhere to stop these kinds of reckless and careless driving.

“Today marks the first anniversary of the “killing” of our beloved Kent “Pembo” Pemberton”….I had to put the word killing in quotation marks….was the use of the word killing or deliberate?? If so, I believe the use of that word is a bit harsh, don’t you think? Why not just say “the death of our beloved…”

    • Ganelle
      May 18, 2012

Because the man was a reckless driver. He had accidents in the past so he was known for driving recklessly and he killed my brother with his careless and reckless driving so I think the word killing was very appropriate.
