Dominica’s Acting National Disaster Coordinator, Don Corriette, has said there is a need to critically assess the country’s response to adverse weather conditions.

He made this observation following the passage of Tropical Storm Chantal on Tuesday.

Dominica was spared severe damages from the storm, however there were minor damages to houses in some communities

There were also some damages to some of the island’s infrastructure, according to the authorities.

Corriette said Dominica must examine its strengths and weakness to help it prepare for future weather conditions.

“We are very early in the hurricane season,” he said. “We are in the second month. We have a few months to go and we need to assess our readiness in terms of what we did and what we didn’t do.”

He said the passing of Chantal gives the island “an opportunity, not just for the Office of Disaster Management, MET office, but us as family to look at our strengthens, weaknesses to strengthen the areas to better deal with the situation.”

Why don’t you Dominicans act like civilized people in a developing world. Instead of pulling here and pulling there. Blaming here and blaming there. Why all the high authorities in Dominica, including police, fire, ministries of Health, Doctors, Nurses, and last but not least the Prime Minister of Dominica, come together for the best of the whole country, before disaster and after disaster strike.

We cannot help disasters, but for Gods sake, have some plan in place. Not because the hurricane did not hit hard that we should let our guards down. This small touch of this hurricane we cannot handle, God protect us from the big ones, because we sure going to have misery, disease, starvation,
    and sure deaths.
