Salisbury Enhancement Committee says thank you

Residents at work on the project
Residents at work on the project

The Salisbury Enhancement Committee would like to extend thanks to all those who contributed to the repairing of the Salisbury Village Road on January 10, 2016.

They are West Coast Cooperative Union Ltd., Peter Vidal Trucking, Tamarind Tree Hotel, The Beach House, DényeTouche, Tie-Tees, Lester Sebastian (USA), Sonny Edwards (USA), Mareen Ambo (UK), Curth & Jislyn Charles, Alfred & Andrea, Dan De Boy, Ellingworth Edwards, Mayna Scotland-Andrew, Gloria Christian, Conlee Jno. Jules, Kern Cuffy, June Jno. Baptiste, Avis Bazil, Wilson Vidal, Titus Moses, Leroy William, Jonathan Vidal, Mark Vidal, Maxroy Williams, Jamie Jno. Baptiste, Victor Jones, Lenn Shillingford, Darvin Shillingford, Jodie & Andy Trew, Nurse Shillingford, Flora Boston, Maltina Louis, the Media and all the others who assisted in making the project a success.

According to information received, government officials recently returned to the community and re-surveyed the road (Second time in four months). All of which was cut up by Public Works for repairs in February 2015. However, their intention is unclear given that they still have not done any work on the road to date.

The Salisbury Enhancement Committee will continue in its effort to help improve the road network in the community. The next project date will soon be announced.

A special call is made not only for residents of the community but also the merchants benefiting from the community, especially those with Mobil Sales Vehicles passing through the community to give a helping hand.

OK We are glad that we have done necessary maintance on our road Now how about DOWASCO fixing our water supply? How can DOWASCO claim to have returned water service to all villages? Upper Salisbury has NO water. It comes on at midnight to 4 a.m.

This is not a political issue, it’s a community effort. Some trust in LINTON AND SKERRITT but I trust in the name of the LORD.

Dominica’s new religion is Politics, they have forgotten their GOD. Everything is politics. When Israel was established there was only one king, there were no opposition. Oppositions divides and destroy countries although they may mean well.
Today focus your hearts on things above not on earthly things, this is a warning.

I think the government should have rushed to provide all necessary assistance to that community effort. help those who want to help themselves. the government should create a workforce including these voluteers by contractual arrangement to repair or build both village roads and agricultural access roads.

    1. The VILLAGE ROAD… as in, the road which runs through the community is the one that this project dealt with.. NOT the FEEDER roads, which the protests sought to remedy.

    2. Members of the community saw it fit to contribute time and money towards the repair, of the road. How can anyone find ill to say of this effort.

    3. All sides of the political divide are somewhat upset… the reds.. because, to an extent… it makes them look bad for having had several false starts to repair the road.. and the blues… well… because thy feel, and erroneously at that, that those who worked on the road were red. Or perhaps there is a reason less known… I do not know.

    4. No one was paid, or received any form of compensation for their time or effort.

Well done to all who made this project possible. Stay positive. Stay motivated, despite the barrage of attacks, and mud being flung from this way and that!

I just read about the Ministry of Community Empowerment on a story pertaining to the Bellevue Chopin road….wah happen that ministry not available for Salisbury too? I don’t support either party, since I don’t reside in Dominica. However, I will say if someone asked me a few months ago if I would support Lennox over Skerrit I would have said no, something about LL just rubs me the wrong way….Now? I’m on the fence LL still irks me but Skerrit? Yah he’s a little suspect….now I digress…this Salisbury situation is one of the reasons why we as a country can’t come together.Regardless if Salisbury voted Labor, UWP or Pappy they should be treated the sames as Labor strongholds. The money in the Treasury is not Labor Party war chest, it belongs to the people of Dominica….whether Labor, UWP, Pappy or independent.

Blocking a road as a form of protest is a separate issue from fixing a road. Those who lump the 2 together need to wise up.

That is what you all had to do long time. You all are the users of the road, so who else to fix it? You all should expect to curse the government day in day out on Q95 and expect that same government to invest in you all road. So fix it

Whether or not the community support, curse or ridicule the government this is no reason to withhold developmental projects. Listen, its TAX money, and Salisbury people pay more tax than some of these Labour communities. Please, please if you cannot think intelligent, leave commenting alone.

      January 27, 2016

Fixing a village road should have nothing to do with the right to voice one’s opinion. Many of
these villagers are tax payers and all contribute to tax e.g. by paying VAT and so are entitled to every RIGHT not privilege this affords. We would be going down a very slippery slope if the only roads that are fixed are those who support the government.

    • January 27, 2016

They pay taxes like everyone else, So is the government duty to fix and maintain the roads. You people in Dominica are caught up in politics it’s a shame .Asltls maybe you should do a little traveling and reading to see how things work in other countries. Don’t mean to insult you but you spoke like no one pay taxes in Dominica.

Great job Salsbury! That’s what Dominica voted Labour for! Skerrit has money to do all sorts of foolishness but refuses to do what the nation needs.
I live in hope and faith that the labour rope will come to an END so that Dominica can breath a breath of fresh air!

Kervin you can be a troublesome fella sometimes but your heart is in de right place. Some UWP voters saying DLP paid you, and some DLP voters vex saying you should wait and give Skerro a chance to fix de road.. Look at a set of mad people we have in Bawi and Dominica by extension going crazy over politics. Well done all who are at least trying to do positive things under de current. Dominica need a new party wi. The common sense party.

    This is not a political.

It s a shame that a great deal of money was spent on tetting Baroness Scotland to Dominica to insult our people, but the people of Salisbury have to rely on the benevolence of community spirited people to repair their much needed road.

Why are the people of Salisbury being treated I. Such a deplorable way?

It is time to stop playing silly point scoring games wth people’s lives.

It’s a shame that the people of Salisbury have to pay taxes like everyone else in the country but they have to fix their own roads simply because they’re in the opposition. If it was in Portsmouth that the villagers had needed their roads fixed it would have been done as soon as it was requested. Then some of you complain that we’re putting politics in everything? Start with your government and come again. Skeritt was trying to commit genocide and wipe out UWP supporters by not giving those people their road for them to go to their farms and their daily business and try to make a $$$ (daily bread) to survive in that suicidal financial plan he have set up in the place. It looking like Dominica has turned into a red privileged society. Be red or be dead. Shameless!!!

So many of of DLP communities receive assistance from the government, but not this one-Salisbury.

Dominica is doomed for continued failure if this government stays in power. Dominica was better-off economically and socially twenty years ago.

If Dominica is to Grow, Skerrit must. go.

Was it the Skerrit led government sponsoring the work-day? Did the government have anything to do with this project? What does LABOUR have to do with this? Nothing! This is another example of villagers working together to accomplish a great project. So “Neutral”, if you are so neutral, place a less bias and valid statement towards this article.
