Sergeant-at-arms delays Parliament; national security minister awaits explanation

A view of parliament building

The second meeting of the first session of the eighth parliament got underway some 45 minutes late Monday, because of the absence of the Sergeant-at-arms.

Questions are being raised as to whether the Sergeant at arms responsible for looking after the security of the House  of Assembly can delay proceedings of the parliament.

Minister for national security Charles Savarin said Monday he is seeking answers to this “very serious matter”.

He said he has written to the secretary to the cabinet, in order that he can obtain an explanation from the police on the matter.

“I am awaiting a response so as to determine what the reasons were for the non-appearance of the sergeant-at-arms,” Savarin said.

Savarin expressed confidence he’ll receive an explanation, and said he will subsequently determine the need for further action.

Parliament was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Monday.

Well see how fast we find people guilty not having any thought of circumstances. The Sergeant at Arms is not sitrting in an office at the Parliamane building guys he is a Police Officer who does everyday police work and we have no idea what may have just come up on the moring of Parliament and we seem not to care. Some of us should nevber accept positions of authority where we work beacuse we would fire every employee in a hear beat. The Minster has a right to ask for a report so does the Speaker of the House of Assembly and that report MUST be forwarded. We should be careful when we just type our emotions without fully understanding the role of that office and the activities that this particular officer is involved in in addition to the responsibility of Sergeant at Arms. For such an important role is there an allowance to his salary? I wonder???? Parliament cannot commence if he is absent yet what renumeration comes with this position have we asked about that or we just love putting hell on jackass back? We only seem to recognise the importance of an office and the police when something goes wrong. Lets not be so quick to condemn and ask questions so we could then make an informed comment. For many of us thats we only time we know how crucial that position is to the business and functions of Parliament. Peace.

The Dominican people are begging for investigations to be conducted into serious matters committed against the laws of the land. Even when documented evidence are available showing wrong doings by authorities, no answers are forthcoming. It has become a norm that Information only surfaces about transactions and secret deals done after the story is disclosed by investigative journalists. In such cases fraud, money laundering, corrupt practices slowly become entrenched.and the country losses revenue. A few get richer while many get poorer.

Mr. Savarin has not supported at anytime calls to investigate those wrongdoings bowling all over Dominica. Everyday talk is about such bad politics and governance. Is it because wrongdoings done by his colleagues are OK and those committed by others must be investigated? Savarin now calling for an explanation? But if one refuses to give explanations on important national matters affecting people’s lives, and supports his colleagues to do the same why should he expect any response. What if the Sergeant-at Arms acts irresponsibly, like many in the political club, and refuse to give any explanation? What if he gives a reason but it is found to be a blatant lie or cover up? What if his explanation is valid? Would he be warned, charged, suspended or discharged of his duties as a police officer?

Let one investigation follow many other investigations to put things a little straighter in this country. If the police were more attuned, astute, or proactive maybe they could investigate wrongdoings of more of those in authority. Don’t they have the power so to do on behalf of the people and the State?.

Those in glass houses should not throw stones. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Which of you now in power has the moral authority to make demands on the sarge. Investigate all those secret deals, criminal activities, and acts against our laws that will soon envelop this beautiful land.

that should never happen at the nationshighest office parliament .Why did not the officer communicated with someone who is responsible sating that he was runnibg late. .A enqury need to be undertaken.. the officer should be disciplined.

My point exactly, such behavior should not be accepted or condone the sergeant-of-arms should be discipline to extent of the law.The sad thing about this situation is most likely the sergeant-of-arms wouldn’t be discipline because we all know how Dominica gov’t work.

To ensure that you get the response I am posting it here…

          First this was your post..

“hey ’stay tuned’ i think you forgot to say it’s skerrit fault. and all the other gibberish you spew on here all the time.

i know during your delusions you thought that uwp would be in office the day after the first court date lmao. wat a dumb *ss you are. couldn’t resist getting at u lol.”

Now Mr. Man…listen up. You have no…ab..so….lute…ly….NO IDEA who I am. I am far from one of those politically ignorant and blind supporters of political parties in Dominica. There is nothing that I have said on this forum that I wish to withdraw. I said, time will tell. I said, stay tuned. AND…I continue to say STAY TUNED for many different reasons and not just the pending court matter. Moreover, Mr. Baboon, My knowledge of court procedures is way beyond what you think, HOW THE HELL COULD ANY DECISION BE MADE DURING CASE MANAGEMENT? You more stupid to even think that I would think that.

You call me a dumb a**? I see hundreds of dumba***** in Roseau everyday begging….these dumba***** where on the labour train just 3 months ago…..

I see many dumb*sses like you continuing to bash UWP for having filed the court but refusing to use common sense wisdom and proper judgment and wonder : IF THE UWP DOES NOT HAVE A CASE AND EVERYTHING IS BASELESS, WHY IS TONY SEEKING TO HAVE THE COURT THROW OUT THE PETITIONS SO THAT THEY WONT BE HEARD? IF UWP DOH HAVE A CASE, THEN ALL THE DLP HAVE TO DO, IS LET UWP GO IN COURT AND DO THEIR COMEDY. THEN LAUGH AT THEM, AND THE PEOPLE WILL SEE FOR THEMSELVES? WHY ASK FOR MORE TIME TO ADD TO ALL THE TIME YOU ALREADY HAD TO PREPARE YOUR DEFENSE? NO CASE?

This is what you the biggest dumb*ss should ask yourself before addressing me with your foolishness and absurdity. If you cya stand what I type here, then close your eyes or go to another news site. cause guess what STAY TUNED WILL NOT GO AWAY and STAY TUNED WILL BE HERE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO…LONG AGO.

And that’s the bottom line…cause STAY TUNED said so.

          Start to bark now…..lol…

  12. March 30, 2010

Was the Sgt. At Arms dispalying an arm length behaviour to the government?. Is he one of the security officers who openly speak about ther association with those who are protesting the outcoem of the December 19 2010 general elections? was he protesting as well. Prime Minister Skerrit, be careful with these officers. Remember the punctured tyres to the state car? Who can venture into police headquarters, a facility that is guarded by the Special Services, on the ground and on roof tops, without being noticed if not police themselves? And you know what? . Nothing became of that. I am looking for theoutcoem to this one. maybe he was sick too.

      March 30, 2010

someone punctured the tyres on the state car? when was that? eh ben for how Skerrit is a dictator i do not understand how all this things can happen?
